I was locked out of my online bank account for 3 days.
My computer at home and work were both worked on and they "forgot" my sign in stuff. This is tragic for me, since on even the best days I have shit for memory. So, in my futile attempts to answer the security question I got myself locked out.
I was home "sick" yesterday, and decided to not make myself any more nuts by trying to talk to someone at the other end of an 800 number. So this morning I tried that. From work. I thought it worked, and my account was unlocked, but alas I ran into another problem.
When I opened up the account I had a completely different address, which is long gone. But my bank didn't know that, so they sent the unlock code to it. So ......... I went into the local branch at lunch time and was told that they could not unlock the online banking from there. She thinks I'm crazy. She may be right.
I just got off the phone with them again. Twice in one day. I'm sure it's not a record or anything, but it is embarrassing to me. I asked the second customer service lady to stay on the phone with me until I was positive that I could get in. It was bad enough admitting (twice) that I don't remember the answer to my security questions.
So what was my security question?
It asked for my anniversary date. That would be a simple answer for a normal person. Apparently not for me.
Why? Well, I can't remember if I was still married to my ex when I set up this account, so it could be THAT anniversary date. Of which there are two. The date of our civil ceremony (legal) and the date of our church ceremony(religious).
Or ......... did I actually update that info to my current spouse? I tried that date but no go. Then I couldn't remember if I used this years date or the year date it will be when we legalize our wedding. Crap!!! Neither worked.
Finally I called my own mind into question. Did I use a wedding anniversary or the anniversary of the date I met Bill, work anniversary, anniversary of my divorce (yes I keep track) or some other spastic date? I can't remember.
I kept it simple when updating my security questions this time. Names of people and places that I am positive cannot and will not change.
