Who's reading cornflakegirl (33):
i woke up early this morning to call the company i interviewed with last week and...

I GOT THE JOB!!!! i can barely contain my excitement!! :) :) :) instantaneously, i felt such a burdon lift from my shoulders. it's such a great feeling that i can't even begin to describe. i have been looking for a job since april when the travel company i was working with laid me off... and to know that all the interviewing and job applications paid off... :) YEAH!!!!

okay, so that's my exciting news of the day. what makes it even better is that benefits start first day of employment and since i haven't had any in 4 months, it's a good feeling to know that i'll be covered in just 2 weeks time.

congrats on landing that job. you should spend this weekend celebrating like mad. when do you start?
• cornflakegirl said on Aug 11, 2006....
i start on the 28th. i wanted to start the week before but the woman i'll be reporting to is going to be on vacation. oddly enough, i received an email from a british tourism board (i applied to work with them about a month ago and think i would really LOVE the job) and they'd like to see me for an interview. so i should just GO on the interview, right? no harm done. i feel as though i'm cheating on the company that just hired me! LOL... what would you guys do? HELP ME! i'm having a moral dilemma. :p
• hotaka said on Aug 11, 2006....
I would go to the interview. If you don't pass or don't like the job then no harm done. If you get accepted well, then it is your life and the job you'll be doing for the next many years. You have to look out for yourself. I wouldn't want to accept my second choice job if I could get my first choice job just because the second choice job offered to hire me first. Still, if you reject the first job I would go out with a well-written letter of thanks for the offer.

Congratulations! I think you should go to the other interview. They might be offering you a better deal. Good luck!

Hello Cornflakegirl.. Sweet name, Do u sell cornflakes ? or grow them ? I didn ot understnad the part where you clarified tha you were a tori amis fam, does that relate in any way to cornflakes or kelloggs ? Well, about he second job... I too am in a position like that , I am searching for jobs and attend as many interviews as possible. I did some free lancing on online basis, but that was temporary, and now am again on the road making an adventure. I think and sincerely feel that It is bettr to have more options available to us, so that we can choose wisely and make informed choices and decisions. I would make the following suggestions, : 1. Go and attend the British tourism interview, You need not take the job, if you don't like it, and In case, you like this, You can go for this greener pasture. 2.Compare the work timings, which one is to your liking? Which one gives you more free time?Ask yourself these questions, and you will know the answer. 3.Among the two jobs, which one do you like? ( I mean the kind of work that you are doing ) This is very important, because ultimately, our work is our reward.I think that We should choose a job that we like doing, more than doing a job that we do just for money's sake. No doubt, money is important, Equally important is our liking for the job, These two factors should be considered and weighed and a good healthy balance is to be sought between the two. 4.Suppose you were gven a choice as to what job would you like to do, between the two, what would your choice be? Do waht you feel within. And let mw now the outcome of the second interview. Once again, CONGRATULATIONS yours truly Heartwalker

growing cornflakes...you make me laugh Heartwalker! I happen to have box of Kellogs beside my computer right now! congrats on the job cornflakegirl.
• hotaka said on Aug 11, 2006....
Heartwalker, Cornflake Girl was a popular Tori Amos single from about 14 years ago maybe. It's the only Tori album I have but it is a darn good one. Cornflakegirl can tell you all about it when she comes back from her interview. :)
• yankee328 said on Aug 11, 2006....
i agree with hotaka. go on the interview. the worst thing that happens is that you already have a job offer and you start there on the 28th. if you get the job at the british tourism office, which is something you really wanted to do, then you have some serious thinking to do as far as what you want to do. obviously, you'd have to consider the money, the benefits, career growth not just within the company but within that industry. and then you can make up your mind. whoever you end up rejecting you should write a flowery thank you letter and turn them down nicely. but congrats! i was excited when i first got my job here at this publishing company because i had been employed off and on in all sorts of ways for 2 years after i had gotten out of school.

and then start to slap them and whith a tyny voice said I ever belive::: thanks .
• cornflakegirl said on Aug 11, 2006....
wow, thanks for all the comments and support! you're all right, i'm going to go on the interview. in fact, i'll contact them now to set it up (i got the email in the later afternoon yesterday and wanted to sleep on it). but really, the more i think about it: there's no harm at all in going on another interview. maybe they won't even like me and i'll still have my first choice, which isn't a bad boat to be in (especially since i've been unemployed for such a long time now). i hate the ol' expression though, when it rains it pours. :)

jobs come when you have jobs. they seem to work like girlfriends and boyfriends. when you have a significant other, everyone pays attention to you but when you're single and want to hook up, no one pays attention to you. and if you have a job, every company in the world wants to at least talk to you. strange how it works. good luck!
