It was pretty good. My son went out of town with my dad and my husband and I had some much needed alone time. We went shopping and out to dinner, took naps in the afternoon and acted like love sick puppies all weekend.....It was very nice. Beside seperation anxiety from my son, it was good weekend....thanks for asking.

My weekend was pretty good too Ed. It consisted of the usual mall trips and over-sleeping but it was quite relaxing (because I successfully procastinated studying!!).. thanks for asking and I'm glad yours was nice too.. :-)

My oldest girls were gone for the weekend.  They got to go swimming and tie-dye tank tops.

Saturday morning, my youngest had a soccer game.  At her level, the coaches also serve as referees and watching them try to keep the children on task is like watching someone herd cats.

On Saturday afternoon, my husband and the two little ones and I went to a mall with my mom.  Got a few books at Borders, so it was a successful trip.

On Sunday I just puttered about the house doing laundry and running the dishwasher while my husband did some yard work.

    Mostly uneventful but pretty good.

It's been pretty nice so far. :) The weather is all rainy-steamy (it's 80+ again today), but that hasn't gotten in our way. Little one got new sunglasses yesterday and has insisted on wearing them even though it's gray outside. :-D

And we're cleaning a lot, since MIL gets in from Germany on Thursday evening.

    Hey Ed!
My weekend consisted of a house full of kids on Saturday and a panic attack (his best friend talks SO loud and I'm sensitive to that more than screaming kids).  Mr. Daily's friends were visiting with their kids.  All wives were out shopping (except me).  Little D. got to stay at my Parent's house Sat. night which left a nice quiet evening for us.  We watched 'American Gangster" with Denzel Washington and it was pretty good!  Sunday, I couldn't bring myself to do a darn thing!  Little Daily was still out with my Sisters.  I wanted to go shopping but you know how I am leaving that door and getting in the car.  All I wanted to do was go shop at CVS, lol!  I didn't though.

Yesterday was Greek Easter and a LOT of my friends happen to be Greek or married/dating Greeks.  Not much time for chatting on the phone with any of them.

I want to clean today while Little D's in daycare, but it's one of those sleepy rainy days here.  I'm feeling a lot of pain in my back too.  I feel like it's a burnt day of daycare and I'm not going to get anything done.

I made a mistake and picked up the book I have been slowly reading just before bed.  5:30 a.m. Sunday morning I finished.  The family got up at 8:30, so I have been wrecked ever since.

I had my moments of crankiness and depressive states, but I did have a little fun playing video games. Sure, I acted like a little kid, all giddy, but with an adult mouth. Fun times. :)

Hi, Saturday was the last day of Passover here in Israel and we stayed home and enjoyed the rest.

On Sunday, kids "practicing" for the holiday of L'ag B'Omer, which here is a school children's holiday besides being a religious holiday -school children get the day off to set the country on fire--set a bonfire too near our house and set fire to the dry weeds and then two apartments.

We had called the police and the fire department, the police came immediately but the fire truck took twenty minutes, and after we closed all the windows to prevent the smoke from coming in, the police banged on the doors to tell everyone to get out for the building was on fire. We thought we knew where the cat was hiding but she had moved, so until we found her we were the last ones out.

We were able to return to our apartment after an hour (these are concrete buildings so the fire does not touch the infrustructure), all three of us not in the best mood. We want to get a big fire hose for the kids will do this again on L'ag B'Omer, when some days we had to call the fire department three times for three different fires.( It's really a very deep religious holiday but for most children it is a chance to play with fire.)

Hi, nobody was hurt but two apartments were damaged, we got sore throats from the smoke, and probably others did too.

L'Ag B'Omer is the 33rd day from the first day of Passover, and the counting goes on until the holiday of Shevuot, which is the holiday celebrating the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai and also the first fruits of the new harvest, including the wheat harvest, which were taken to the Temple in Jerusalem and brought to the Priests or Cohanim there and before that the fruits were forbidden to eat.

The symbols of the holiday are complicated During the Roman occupation, after the Second Temple fell, there was a revolt led by Bar Cochba (Son of a Star) who had troops from all the Jewish diasporas (some say 8 million!) but even though he might have been from the Davidic line, and was considered the potential Messianic King by Rabbi Akiva, he was basically non-religious and arrogant and trusted in his own strength and strategies and the Romans prevailed.

The bonfires and the bows and arrows of the children may represent this revolt (about 120 or so of the Common Era, as we call it), or it may represent the stopping of the plague that was killing the students of Rabbi Akiva (which some historians said could have been their death in that revolt ). The bows and arrows could also represent the rainbow, (which is a sign of G-d's anger but forgiveness at the same time).

Another aspect of the holiday is that it is the birthday and deathday of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, one of the four greatest students of Rabbi Akiva, who at the time of his death dictated very deep Kabbalistic secrets to his students. He is the author of the Holy Zohar. People from all over Isreal (estimates from a hundred thousand to a million over a few days) go to his grave site in Har Miron on this day, and many people camp out there, and it is a big party atmosphere, where people take their three year olds to have their first hair-cut. He had to hide out from the Romans for 20 years after criticising their rule, and he and his son hid out in a cave and kept alive by eating carobs. (when he came out, his father in law paid for him to heal in the hot springs of Tiberias).

Hope you're not sorry you asked! :)

Thanks, SW. Being alone for the time being keeps me quite occupied as I have to clean the house and do all the cooking for the week etc. That's why - more busier on the weekends. Am always reading the SC - but offer to comment when I feel like. It takes quite sometime to go through all the posts on a daily basis.
  • silverwhisper said on May 03, 2008....
trinov: no, not at all sorry! i'm glad there was no significant damage--whew! and i always find that i learn something from these exchanges--my thanks. :>

scipio: see, i never know if you're reading or not so i don't want to assume. but yeah, it does take time, doesn't it? :>

  • silverwhisper said on May 04, 2008....

  • Eilan said on May 06, 2008....
ed: When it comes to Henry VIII's six wives, there aren't many names to remember: Katherine, Anne, and Jane.  :D

Tom Perrotta writes suburban satire.  It's not particularly heavy stuff, but it's a decent enough read.
  • silverwhisper said on May 07, 2008....
heh...it makes one wonder if he couldn't be bothered to find women with different names. :D

i might need to investigate perrotta's work some time. :>
