Ever since I was a kid I was fascinated about birds. Particularly the Cuckatoo and the Mynah bird. Three years ago semi hubby bought me a pair lovebirds. It was like testing the ground for me if birds was something that I would want for a pet.
The love birds looked cute. First few days I was enjoying their chirping. I was patiently cleaning their cage and refilling their water dish and feeding dish. Later on after a few months I got fed up. They poop all around their cage, I cant pet them, and they were messy eaters. After almost a year I gave up and gave the lovebirds to semi-mother-in-law.
Last Monday while buying some accessories for my hamsters I saw the attendant feed the Mynah bird they were selling. She asked me if i would like to try feeding it. The mynah bird was still handfed. She was roughly 4 to 5 months old. Ready for weaning. I enjoyed feeding the bird so much.
That night I couldnt stop thinking about the mynah bird. Tuesday I researched on the net on how to care for a mynah and what do I have to expect if I were to get that baby mynah. Surfing alot and learning from what I read I said hey it aint that bad. Maybe I should get that baby mynah.
So on wednesday lunch time I called the petshop owner who happened to be an old friend of ours. We talked for a few hours and finally he agreed for me to take the bird with no downpayment, he gave me credit for 30 days.
I was so happy when I took home the mynah bird who'm I named Ebony. It was hard at first to learn how to handfeed a bird and wean it. I was about to call the petshop owner and ask him to take ebony and i will just get her when she is already eating on her own.
Maybe Ebony had an inclining on what I was about to do because on that same day she started to peck and eat on her own.... phew!!!
She hasnt learned to speak clearly yet but she is already making different vocalizations, specially when i start playing Angela Bofill's One Hello.
I cant wait to hear her speak clearly! I am glad I took the risk in getting ebony. Owning a bird, taming it and teaching it to speak is so much fun and challenging for me. This is something new for me and I am enjoying everybit of it.
Here are some photos of Ebony.
