I was outside earlier cleaning up some old leaf piles and taking them off to the dump.  Hey, my yard is starting to look pretty good I think.  A little bit each day and soon... ah, yes soon I will have to start mowing the lawn.. yes as soon as tomorrow.  I have never mowed my lawn in April inVermont..

Well, after getting the yard work done for the day, I came in and got on here to look around.  I am doing my thing commenting etc.. then I see something out of the top of my eyes... I think its just a piece of hair or someting.. so I pay it no mind for a second and keep typing.. then I see it again.. ewe.. what the hell is that??? OMG.... its a spider......

No it wasn't some huge spider that was to eat me up.. but OMG I hate hate spiders!! That is an understatement to say the least.  So I grab at my hair and hope for the best.. and there it goes flying by its little web to my keyboard now... right on the "p" key.  I try to brush is off and it falls into the crack between the keys.. down there in the dark with all those crumbs from earlier snack and stuff... Oh, I hope its DEAD!  I keep an eye on that area of the keyboard and feel its safe to go back to typing after I hit that "p" key a few times figuring I must have squashed that thing by now.

But.... lo and behold.. there it is making a beline to get off the keys.. Ah HA..... got ya you little spider crawlie thing... your dead now and history as it flick it to the floor in a curled up ball...

The only good spider is a dead spider I say.  Now I sit here and can feel all kinds of crawly things in my hair... I hate that when that happens.  I hope he didn't have any relatives that joined him while I was outside doing my yardwork!

Ewww.  I found one high up on the bedroom wall, where the wall meets the ceiling, the other night.  I made B kill it.  It had been sitting there all day creeping me out.  [shudder]  It's the time of year that they start coming out I guess.

    quiltedone, you're so brave!

  • diabolicdame said on Apr 25, 2008....
I would have laughed a little cause that was actually funny and cute but the thing is I hate crawlies myself. Especially lizards. I can't even type that word without my heartbeat going up.. YIKES.. I WANT MOMMY!
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
Mimi ~ no not brave... I live alone and have no choice!  Darn if I can train those cats to help me out!  Yes, I have found a couple... time to get the wonderful stuff called "hot shot" spider killer.. I love it.. it works instantly!! and keeps them away too.
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
diabolic ~ I am getting better with spiders.. well little ones.. its a good thing it wasn't any bigger or my laptop would have been thrown to the floor and I'd have been on a dead run... run to where I don't know... LOL  I like (lizards).. I said it in a whisper so not to scare you!  LOL
  • skald said on Apr 25, 2008....
Oh we have a saying here that it is unlucky to kill spiders. But don't worry it only goes here. I don't want to touch them but kids often can. We have many kinds but no dangerous ones.

I was admiring how capable you are. Now your yard is getting to be so nice for the summer. Good for you.  And you are having such good weather. Ours is OK but not like yours. ((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
    Yes, we have a saying here too that if you kill a spider it will rain.. well good.. I killed it and it will rain.. we need it!!  Yes, the yard is looking very green and I don't mind the yard work this time of year but when it gets hot... I don't like going out in the humidity.  {{{{hugs}}}
  • diabolicdame said on Apr 25, 2008....
*shudder* thanks for the whisper. And I'm glad it was a tiny one.. who knows where you would have ended up at the end of that run!!
  • MissMimi said on Apr 25, 2008....
Oh diabolic...  my mother used to live in Florida -- very tropical.  One day a little lizard got in her house.  I screamed like it was an alligator!  Man, those things move like lightning!

    quiet:  i hate bugs- period.
i'm scared to death of spiders.
i usually call my husband to kill them, or one of the kids-

but there are a few bugs i hate even worse than spiders-
those june bugs?  the huge one that crunch when you step on them....*shivers*
and silverfish..omg, they make me want to RUN....

my kids are funny- they catch the spider and let it go outside!
my husband tells them that spiders are our "friends".....they eat lots of other pests.
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
secret ~ oh, yes silverfish are right up there with centipedes... gross.  I don't mind the june bugs.. but I don't like those japanese beatles..  And yes, spiders are good for a lot of things... but crawling on people and living to lurk in corners is not one of them!!  LOL
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
Mimi ~ diabolic ~ you don't like those cute little orange salamaders?? Oh, I love them to this day.. I will pick the little guys up and talk to them.. and send them on their way... LOL

I am spider man, not the cartoon guy Quiet, just the guy my wife, daughters and granddaughters call to dispatch hairy spiders haha.

I once worked in a crawl space, should say crawl spaces. Very large ones under low income housing units here. I had to put six inch thick  2 ft. by 4 ft. Styrofoam blocks all around these crawl spaces to insulate them. The reason I mention this is because of the spiders down in there.

I'd come out looking like a mummy from the webs AND spiders crawling all over me. I even saw a few black widows down in there. Hey I even found two empty packs of Wings Cigarettes down there. They're from WW2 era. Anyway, don't give me this crap about a tiny spider on your keyboard..........that just don't fly with spider man haha.....
  • wombat said on Apr 25, 2008....
Gives me the shivers just thinking about it--a spider in your hair!  I know how it makes you wonder if there are more!   I had a big "wolf spider" in my kitchen running loose once, and I slept on the couch with the light on until I finally saw it on the shelf under the sink and sprayed him good!  It was so big and fast, I had thought it a mouse when I first saw it run by!
  • skald said on Apr 25, 2008....
Quiet.  I sometimes flush them down the bath. I don't know where they come form but sometimes, not often they are crawling there.
  • diabolicdame said on Apr 25, 2008....
MissMimi: I totally understand. I hate em! I get nightmares about em. And if one gets into my house, I stand on top of a chair and cry!!

quietone: No I don't like em.. *shudder*.. you are now superwoman in my book!
  • bluegum said on Apr 25, 2008....

They are disgusting vile creatures that deserve to die!
We have Halloween spiders coming in the house now. They look exactly like those fake black spiders you buy in the Dollar Tree at Halloween. But they're harmless.

We also have brown recluse spiders, which are NOT harmless. My friend was bitten in the foot 6 months ago, and the venom is still destroying tissue in her foot. She sees the doctor weekly to have dead flesh removed from the wound. Very painful, she says. It could be a year before the poison stops working, and the tissue and skin will eventually stop growing back, leaving a concave area on the top of her foot.
People die from this spider bite.  Ewwww...scary!

  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
mobil ~ well I can say I have had a few "pet names" in my head for you but none even close to "spider man"  LOL  Nobody or any  amount of money could ever, ever, ever get me to go into some crawl space like that!! That is just too creepy crawly!  this tiny spider was not "just on my keyboard" it came from my hair.... from working outside..... it was crawling down on to my FACE.... eeeeek~
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
wombie ~ I don't think I have heard of a "wolf spider" and by the sounds if it looks as big as a mouse... I never ever want to see one.  yuck.. I would have called 911 LOL
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
skald ~ yes I have been surprised by a long legged spider in my bathtub once in a while too... I make sure I scald them to death and they go down the drain!!
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
blue ~ well I am glad you had a good laugh at my creeped out expense! Probably the fastest I have moved in a long time... LOL  I think I will spray my house tomorrow... its time.
  • quietone said on Apr 25, 2008....
Twyla ~ I have heard of those spiders, I think we have them here?  That is awful about your friend.  I hope she heals well.  We have those awful "huge" bright yellow and black spiders here that are quite poisonous... gives me the willies just thinking about them.  (now I will go to sleep and have spider nightmares) Better check under my covers and everything to make sure there are none hiding.

Now that you mentioned vermont I'll probably have pancakes for breakfast this morning. Last year I was trimming my lawn with a gas weed wacker when the cutting head spun off and flew into some bushes. As I was on my hands and knees retrieving it the largest rottweiler I have ever saw jumped up on me and started humping my leg. I honestly thought it was a bear. I turned my head and looked and I think it was smiling at me. I must admit it had good rhythm. I finally got up and it saw how big my feet were and took off for the hills. I have no idea where it came from, I had never seen it before.   I would rather have your spider in my hair then that dog on my leg.
  • CayenneMan said on Apr 26, 2008....
Honestly it was bad enough the first time I did'nt want to tell you twice. I don'nt know what happened.
  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
ed ~ well it gave me the creeps for sure... I am glad it came out of my keyboard as I would be cautious if it had not!  LOL
  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
CMan ~ LOL that was pretty funn to read, but I imagine it wasn't at the time!!  Maybe from behind, you looked like some "buddy" he knew!  I took care of the double for ya .. good to see you.

quietone:   http://www.uky.edu/Ag/CritterFiles/casefile/spiders/wolf/wolf.htm                                   Hope this link to info and pics of wolf spiders works...

I thought it was a mouse at first when I turned on the light and came in and it scurried by.  Later I saw it and thought it was a tarantula!  It had webs sort of growing between it's legs.  I later found and sprayed it and it curled up to nothing--but what a scary few nights!  Someone told me this is what it probably was.

  • JoyousLoving said on Apr 26, 2008....
I don't mind them too much.  But the other morning I was getting ready to get in the shower, I turned on the water, and notice as good sized spider in the bottom of the tub.  Put on a towel and called, "baby?!  there's a spider in the tub, can you help me please!"  lol  he thought it was hilarious but I haven't the heart to kill them myself and I don't want to shower with them either.
  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
wombie ~ yuck, I went to that site... I couldn't even stay there long.  The one that was in my hair was like that black one only not as big..
  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
Joyus ~ there is a commercial on tv like that.. where the kid and mother find a spider in the tub and have to call for assistance!  Well, makes the man of the family feel imortant I guess!  No, I would not shower with them eiter.. dead or alive.
  • evil_twin said on Apr 26, 2008....
Once I was laying in bed and I felt something tickling my face. I thought it was just a stray hair or something, so I reached up and tried to brush it off. But it ended up being a big furry black spider on my face instead! I had no idea because I was half asleep at the time. But when I realized what it was, I was wide awake! And I jumped out of the bed and did what I call the 'spider dance'. I felt like I had spiders crawling all over me!

  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
e.t.  ~ you got it exactly!!! LOL I can relate to that "spider dance" !!  I had that happen on my face once when I was camping I woke to a spider scurrying across my face.. it didn't stick around long enough to see the end of its life and I didn't stick around to dream any more that morning either!!

    Eeey Quiet    ;-))

Call me a whimp, but I put them outside whenever my daughter was
    screaming; SPIDER!!!!!!!!!
    The belong outside.

I grew up on the water and I apparently have sweet blood.
So I was a gourmet dinner for every bloodsucking insect.
I don't mind giving them some blood but they leave an itching
    substance under your skin.
In the morning I used to be covered with bites.

The window of my bedroom, faced the water. It was always
    besieged by Mosquitoes.
Lucky for me, spiders made there webs there and kept alot of
them from comming in at all.

Try taking a glass and a piece of cardboard, catch the spider
    and put it outside.

Let them make there web and let the morning dew show you how
    beautiful they are.

    Although I have to tell you;

my romance with the spider went as far as the morning,
when I had to get my bike out of the shed and walked into a web
    as wide as the door.

    ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

    HUGS,    Pete  ;-))

  • quietone said on Apr 26, 2008....
well, I do agree with one thing... spiders belong outside!  and yes, I have seen those beautiful webs with glistening dew that capture mother nature... and other critters as well... but to me... a dead spider is the best ~ no spider, no web!  hugs
  • foreveryoung said on May 01, 2008....

    my friends take the mick
