I have known for quite awhile that capitalism does not help the average business owner because the corporation that has the most power are able to place so much pressure on the smaller businesses they can't afford to compete and monopolies are created which appear on the surface favorable to the consumer in lower priced goods; however in reality these large corporations pay less wages and benefits to the workers, and actually creating fewer jobs for the community because the larger corporations can't or won't hire as many employees as a number of smaller businesses which in turn reduces the tax revenue for the area because fewer employees have less money to spend.  I say this not to give a lesson in economics because most of you probably already know this, but as an introduction to what I have just learned about capitalism and it's affect on other countries that has upset me so.
We are now in a global society which sounds like a positive advancement because the world can now share in the wealth and prosperity of a few, but is this how it really works? Apparently not, because due to unfair business practices by the corporations (dumping) and the unfair practices of the countries (tariffs and subsidies) that prevent poorer counties from competing and not only become poorer but actually become unable to feed themselves thus leading to what has been termed "Food Wars"
As a definition  of dumping- when countries enter another country with their lower cost goods that local producers can't compete with and businesses go out of business and local farmers can't compete and the country simply looses the ability to sustain itself, thus apply for financial aid from the US causing us to help create what we thought we were preventing.
CONCLUSION- Apparently the average American isn't aware this is happening.  I realize mainstream news gives time to cover the plights of other countries and the so-called "Food Wars", but only because it is an interesting time filler and "NEVER" tells us that it's the practices of our government and our corporations that are causing the problems our government is using our tax dollars to combat not to mention the loss of the small American farmer and for what "Short Term corporation profits"
I don't want to give the wrong idea here because I believe capitalism is the best system we have to choose from at the present time; however we need to realize we may have given corporations legal standing as a human, but God did not give them a moral compass and countries by nature look out for their own people, but corporations and countries need controls or they will destroy themselves.
I obviously don't have the answer , but like in everything else on my blog I am just the messenger.

There are tons and tons of small businesses in my neighborhood, owned and operated mostly by immigrants. They arrive here, work their way up, buy into a franchise, buy houses locally and keep building and growing.

There are now ever-growing middle classes in the most populous countries on Earth and it's all due to capital flowing from one part of the planet to the other.   Both India and China had been formerly socialist economies and experienced tremendous poverty and virtually no economic growth. Tata Motors just bought Land Rover and Jaguar, for crying out loud. We couldn't conceive of a Third World country like India buying into established auto brands during India's socialist days in the 1970s.

Capitalism works on both the micro and the macro level. That's not to say there aren't huge global socio-economic problems to resolve, but freedom to trade in money, goods and services holds far greater promise to help improve the lives of the world's poorest than any other method.

And, as you admit, you and so many other critics of capitalism offer no specific solutions. Just broad-based complaints and platitudes about fairness and justice.

curmudgeon I fail to see the point of your first example of the immigrants coming to this country and making a success because I am talking about the people still living in other countries, and part of their problems being caused by the unfair practices of prosperous countries especially the United States and our corporations.  As to your second statement about some countries prospering because of the flow of monies around the world I can not dispute that fact nor would I want to; however my post was concerning the countries that are being affected in a negative way by the factors I mentioned.  Actually I believe you and I have said the same thing here (
(Capitalism works on both the micro and the macro level. That's not to say there aren't huge global socio-economic problems to resolve, but freedom to trade in money, goods and services holds far greater promise to help improve the lives of the world's poorest than any other method.), but just in a different way; yours being more eloquent than mine.
I am not a critic of capitalism, but one who believes enough controls should be built into the system to help prevent the harm caused by some of the activities of capitalism and corporations.  My main reason for making the post as I stated was help people be aware of the harm being done by some of our activities, and in closing as to me not offering any specific solutions to the problem I brought up is not because I don't have any , but that was not the intent of the post. I have a degree in business and minor in economics , but that was so many years ago that I'm sure the dynamics of a global economy has probably  altered or changed everything I was taught- no I know there are wiser people out there than me that could solve the problems if given the opportunity.  Thanks for the comment.  PEACE-DL
