My lucky streak ran out for me a little. I should have known it would. The stupidest thing happened to me at work yesterday. I was in the break room getting a snack, and someone left one of the cabinets open. I turned around to walk out and I smashed my head right into the corner of it!

I split my head open right by my eyebrow. The stupid thing wouldn't stop bleeding either. I finally slapped a band aid on my head, but I had to modify it with scissors because the only sizes we had were huge and slightly less huge. If I didn't cut it, it would have covered half my eyelid. As it was it still stuck to part of it and every time I blinked it would pull my skin. It wasn't comfortable at all.

Then when I got home I had Nat take a look at it. She said it was bad enough that I should probably have gotten stitches. And she told me it wasn't too late and we could just go down to the ER and take care of it. But I didn't want to do that. It's boring sitting down there forever and I didn't really want stitches. I'm a big baby. Stitches requires needles and most of you already know how I feel about those.

So I let Nat doctor it up instead. She put Superglue on it and these little butterfly bandages. It actually felt worse after she did that, but she said it was because the skin was so tight from the glue. And my eyebrow was all crunchy too. But I guess it worked pretty well, even if it does look gross. And it itches and I can't stop wanting to pick off the crunchy glue. I'm a terrible patient.

And I'm also incredibly accident prone because I'm always doing something lame and getting hurt. I look like I got into a bar fight and someone smashed me over the head with a beer bottle. That'd be a better story than stupidly walking into a cabinet huh?

Only me...

I really am sorry you hurt your head, even if it is kind of humorously klutzy. That Superglue would drive me nuts, but I still might take it over getting stitches!

And you really aren't alone with the stupid accidents. I have a bruise I just noticed last night on my inner thigh that's like 3/4 the size of my palm. It looks awful and it's sore to the touch, and for the life of me I can't remember how it happened. But that's because I get so banged up in my daily life that I barely notice the bumps when they happen...I'm a total klutz! :-p It's a wonder my kids are alive and well, since they both seem to take after their mom.

oh what an accident to have at work!!!
and that spot near your eyebrow always bleeds like crazy for some reason.

i remember when i was 8 or 10 and my twin sister and i were goofing around in the yard.  she's about the clumsiest person you'll ever meet.  (she'd kill me for saying that!!)
anyway we had a fence with a gate that separated the back from side yard.  and she ran smack into the gate post opening up the side of her head near her eyebrow.  it bled like crazy!  looked like she split open her skull!  took 4 sticthes-  i just remember how much it bled......and i hate the sight of blood

tomorrow will be better...after all, you're superglued together!

mwaa ha haaaa you sound like me on a good day.  I have a bruise problem, I just don't see shit and it looks like I get beat up! or someone has taken a bat to my legs...

    You should just say that Nat punched you in the face with a cooking utensil for stealing onions while she was cooking.... {{go on dare ya}}

So what do you think will happen tomorrow??? you know if you hit it again they will have to try rip the super glue off and then open up the wound wider and get stiches... more than you would have originally... be berry cafuw

Ummm....are you SURE you're not Mr. Daily? LOL!
He does have "stupid" accidents ALLL the time.  Maybe you guys are related, at least that! LOL!

Good job to Nat on the superglue!  Never would have thought to use it!

I am glad little nurse fixed you up with some butterfly bandaids.  I have not heard of using glue though!  I guess its a good idea... hey she's the nurse!  And better than stitches I agree.  Let people think you got into a fight defending your wife or yourself.. LOL its sounds better then running into a door!  LOL  poor guy.

I hope you are feeling better this morning?

hinana--Ouch! You broke a glass with your elbow? I'm glad you didn't need stitches cause I know you hate needles as much as I do!

Infernal--I hate it when I get bruises I don't remember too. That seems to happen to me a lot too. But that bruise sounds awful! I hope it feels better soon.

secret--It does bleed a lot in that spot! It was horrible. I guess it's because the skin is so thin there. I think the superglue worked well though! And no needles. That's the best part!

Lucy--I hope nothing happens to me today! I'll be careful. And maybe I should wear a helmet or something? :-P

daily--We could be related! I'm glad it's not just me who's prone to stupid accidents. I guess they use superglue a lot at the hospital so that's why Nat did that. It works good!

quietone--Yeah, they use glue now for a lot of cuts. It's a cool trick! It sticks to anything and it's waterproof, so it works pretty well. I should tell everyone I got into a cool fight huh?

Lady Emma--I do feel better today :-)

Poor you!  They use a superglue kind of glue to close some surgical sites, too.
The first carotid surgery my husband had was in '93, and they used staples back then. He looked like Frankenstein's monster!
He had the other carotid done last year...what a difference with the glue.
I'm very squeamish but it wasn't difficult to look at all.
  • diabolicdame said on Apr 23, 2008....
Ouchie!!!! That must've hurt! I'm usually always hurting my feet.. but cracking your head open is worse! But we've all done this one at some point you know.. forgetting a cabinet door was open and banging our heads into it.. My mum always bangs her head on the wash basin in the bathroom after she bends down to pick something up!

I remember when the drug rep brought by the first type of skin glue for the ER staff to use.  What a god send!!  People will sit still for that when they won't for stitches.  I've even managed to glue my fingers together with that stuff while helping.

I had to make my family's life hell because when I was married they were in the habit of leaving cupboard doors open.  I'd regularly smack my head with them and even managed to get a few cuts that way.  What's up with that anyway?!!  It's just plain stupid to leave the cupboard door open.

I so regularly mangle myself with bruises, cuts and scratches that it's become a sort of guessing game to figure out where they come from.
  • polarheart said on Apr 23, 2008....
Poor you, Twinny!! Who'd have thought superglue would do the trick??!!  I must remember that for future incidents.

I left the bottom filing cabinet drawer open once and was on the other side of my desk when the phone rang and I had to run "around" to answer it and that's when I busted my shin open on the corner of that drawer!!!  It bled like made and took litterally months to heal.

Hope you feel and look better soon!

I know that had ta' hurt!  I'm glad you had your sweetie to fix you up, and hope you didn't jar anything loose in that nice noggin of yours.

I once sliced my thumb open at work on my machine, and due to my "youthful activities" at that time, I couldn't report it.  I wrapped it in tape and put on work gloves, then went home where someone did the butterfly stitch thing for me.  I still have the scar.

Hope you don't "run into" any more bad luck soon!

    Owie!

I'm one of those people too.  I don't think I'm accident prone, but I really am.  The very first time my mother ever let me out of her sight (I was 2) I ran around the corner of the house with some neighbor kids and came back bleeding like crazy from my hairline.

In high school I hit my head on the corner of my night stand while rolling out of bed.  It didn't gush blood but I did break the skin.  Can you say "critical fail?"  I'm NOT a morning person!  :p

Two or three years ago I sliced into my finger while chopping potatoes.  It made a nice curved cut so I drew eyes on my finger and made it a smiley face.  A bit more than a year ago I burned my arm on the side of the oven trying to take a pizza out...and a few days later I bumped into one of those free-standing shelves in the middle of the aisle at the drug store and cut my shoulder.  I was worried people would think I was abused!

There's more but it would totally take over your post!

I'm glad you're okay and I hope it heals up well with the superglue!  I know they use glue to close surgical wounds sometimes (in animals too) so I'm not surprised Nat thought of it.  Beats getting stitches at least!  Here's hoping you heal up fast so you can finally pick the crusty stuff off your eyebrow!
  • allswell said on Apr 23, 2008....

oh i know that hurt...well at least you had Natalie to doctor you up...a good advantage to being married to a nurse!  I'm happy to say  i'm not accident prone, lucky i guess....of course i'll probably break a leg or something now that i said that!

    hugs~alls

You really are having a bad week huh? You have to be careful man. I don't blame you about not wanting stitches though. I wouldn't want them either.

But Superglue? Is that really okay to use? I know they use special glue at the hospital but I had no idea you could use regular actual Superglue.

That's interesting. I'm gonna remember that.

Feel better please. No more knocking yourself out or anything else okay?
  • queenparanoia said on Apr 23, 2008....
thanks goodness your wife is a nurse!!! don't worry this happens to me before but i didnt get a cut. just a bump in the head...
  • silverwhisper said on Apr 24, 2008....
is it safe now to joke about it? cuz if so: dude, only you have a head hard enough to do that! :D

if not though, sorry, man--you know me, i'm just looking for the funny. :>

How the head, Kyle?  Clumsy is charming, btw.  At least that's what I tell myself...
  • evil_twin said on Apr 26, 2008....
twyla--The glue stuff is much better than staples or regular stitches!

diabolic--I've smashed my toes on all sorts of things before too. It's amazing I haven't broken any of them!

uniquely--What is up with people leaving cabinets open?! It drives me crazy. And it's clearly not safe for people like us who keep walking into them!

polar--Ouch! I've ran into filing cabinet drawers too, but your incident sounded pretty bad! I do feel better now though. It still doesn't look good yet though!

wombat--I can't afford to knock any more screws loose in my head can I? :-P I hope this doesn't scar though....

nyt--I am feeling better now, and my eyebrow itself is not crunchy anymore. But the cut still is and it's driving me crazy because I still want to pick at it! You sound like you've had your fair share of mishaps too!

alls--I hope you didn't jinx yourself!

Mr. Box--Apparently it is okay to use regular superglue. I'm still alive! Nat said it's not really any different than what they use at the hospital. It worked really well, but I guess it's not good enough for really bad cuts. You can't re-attach limbs with it or anything! But I do feel better now.

queen--It is a good thing I'm married to a nurse huh?

silver--It's safe to joke about it. I was hoping maybe this would knock some sense into me, but I don't think I hit my head hard enough ;-)

batty--I do feel better :-) Thanks.

joyous--I hope clumsy can be charming too! My head feels fine now. Just itchy where it's healing....

or.... i am so totally screwed....
This week it seems as if my family has been plagued by injuries. During a code I was running and hit a door,my mouth and my hand snapped back(Think I sprained it). Middle child said he hurt the same area I did playing in gym. And then yesterday the oldes...
I know you are, but what am I?...
