parents may not of heard of myspace.com but I know that your kids have.  Well the question is should it be avoided?  Is it safe?  or should it just be monitored.  Well if your wondering what myspace is it is a social site that people use to stay in contact with friends family and even strangers.  It is almost like a school yearbook but it is world wide book.  Everyone can talk to everyone and there is few limitations to stop that from happening.  Myspace.com has more then 50 Million members and is continually growing.  Dateline NBC did a study and had a police officer make up a fake profile and then chat with people's kids to see what was being said and to find out just how much was being thrown around on myspace.  The outcomes were incrediable.  There was people sharing information that you would not want your child to be sharing.  Such as phone numbers, where they lived, which neighborhoods.  The crazy thing is that some of the pictures on myspace shows people in provocative positions and also showing some skimpy outfits.  The craziest part is you don't know if some predator is sitting on the other end of the computer just writing what you want to hear to get your information and come after you.  Therefore you have to think before you answer questions and talk to people.  Myspace now made a new thing that the person has to get your last name before they can even ask you to become a friend and on top of that they also made it where you can select to only get messages from friends.  Myspace is making great attempts to help the situations for adults to allow there kids to use the site but it is up to the parents to monitor and ensure things are being done good and that the kid isn't giving any information that you as the parent wouldn't want them to give out.  Therefore parents if you have kids please make sure to sit them down and talk to them about these kinds of things.  Every kid pretty much has  a Myspace website.

With kids, seriously it should be educate them to the dangers, then monitor them, if they are giving away too much or finding to much then well its up to each individual parent to make sure, deadly sure their children are safe.

The problem with sites like that and this one is that the site owners will not do a single thing to get rid of anything that a normal person may deem to be not digestible, a simple way of saying it I suppose.

A friend recently sent me an email, one in a long line of stuff she sends me but its pertinent, would you like to read it?

I just write blogs and comments and bulletins, and respond to others. I don't meet anyone on Myspace. For me it is perfectly safe.

My kids, husband, family, friends, and myself all use myspace. I do educate my kids about the dangers that lurk out there but just like any teenager they test those boundaries. I do use a program though that shows me every keystroke they put in...including their messenger programs. Myspace can be a great tool to keep in touch with family and friends...you just have to be cautious!

Vacant what is the name of the program you use? That would be a great thing for me to use also.  my little cousin always gets on the computer and my aunt isn't sure what she is typing and it would be nice to have some kind of releif knowing she isn't doing anything she isn't suppose to do.

SniperSpy is remote monitoring software perfect for parents needing to monitor their child's activities on an unreachable computer. Install and monitor from anywhere. Allows you to view chats, keystrokes, MySpace, Xanga and more by logging into a private online account.

This is the program that we use...it also keeps my husband informed as well. He travels alot and I don't always get to monitor what is going on...between the two of us we read 100% of the reports. The thing that I like it this program is that the kids don't even know it is there. We basically just seem to know everything...they haven't really figured that out.

I have a MySpace profile, but I use it only to keep in touch with a few people from my high school.

My girls aren't quite old enough to be interested in online stuff.  Yet.  They're getting there, though.
