One of the many reasons I love living in Calgary is our way of celebrating the Calgary Stampede.  There is nothing anywhere that compares.  I sincerely encourage you to c'mon over and see what its all about.  Ten days of partytime!  This year its July 4 to July 13.  The whole city seems to participate.  Everywhere you look there are cowboys and cowgirls.  Even I drag out the western shirts, the jeans, the boots and the Stetson.  There's just something about the flavor of Stampede that gets in your blood.

We have world class rodeo with entrants from Canada, USA, Australia and more.  The chuckwagon races are an exciting and hair raising event.  Throw in an evening grandstand show that will rival anything you ll see in Vegas.  Spice it all up with a full service midway and of course the obligatory fair food with some added specials such as buffalo burgers and Alberta prime rib.  Dont forget the Indian Village and the bannock burgers.  Toss in parades on the stampede grounds and free entertainment all over the place once you ve paid your admission.  Agricultural exhibits and shows, a building bursting at the seams with commercial exhibitors, gun fight recreations, antique machinery in operation and fashion and art shows.........there's something for everyone.  Nashville North with big name performers and enough beer to drown the driest thirst can take up the better part of an evening.

The downtown core is filled with free Stampede related events all ten days.  There's square dancing, chuckwagon breakfasts on the street with pancakes and bacon and even some with sausages.  You'll see, and maybe have a chance to ride in old time rigs such as chuckwagons, stagecoaches and a surrey with the fringe on top.  You'll be treated to street entertainers and hawkers as well as Indian Parades with all of Southern Albertas' five First Nations Tribes.  Dont miss the opening parade on July 4th.  Horses, Indians, marching bands, drill teams, military and lots of floats.

If you want to see more of the festivities go to:

http://cs.calgarystampede.com

and

http://stamped-dowtownattractions.com

Cruise around those two sites and you'll be hooked.

Other events include Stampede breakfasts at most of the major malls.  They'll have live entertainment, a great breakfast and very likely some dancing.  You'll find chuckwagon dinners in the evenings at various sights around town as well.  So put on your western wear and come have the time of your life.

Special offer to SCrs who take up this challenge..........Botties BBQ will happily host you for a backyard event.

Come and get it!

Isn't it strange...I never thought of Canada as having a cowboy culture. And why not? It has a west just like the U.S does. Hmmm.
I'd love to go to the stampede, it sounds like fun...yeehaw!

Sounds great, but the state of california loves me so much that they're holding my passport hostage.  How's about you overnight some of those ribs and I'll return the favor with my favorite butcher's secret blend spice rub?

wow this sounds like quite an event botoni.  Unfortunately, I will be just getting back from going abroad.  have a rib for me will ya ~  maybe next year... heck I'd love to go visit my neighbor to the north/west.

Oh Botoni that sounds like a wonderful time. I would love to venture out that way. Unfortunately, we have family flying in to visit us on the 10th of that month.

I get allot of info on the Stampede down here botoni, I know it's a great time and I've watched it on TV, the chuckwagon races are everything you say and more.

I can't get up this season, family reunion at the same time, but next year, next year I really do want to come up.

I would absolutly love it if I could be there to see the rodeo and ride in a stagecoach.....all of it looks so fun!  This is the kind of thing I really enjoy.  People out having fun like this.  Thanks for the invite, but guess I will just have to settle for hearing about it......

A surrey with a fringe on top!!! Well, I just gotta go. I am from Surrey and that song is what made me realize just what a surrey is.

I think it was almost a year ago that I first started reading you, Botsticker, and I believe after a few words about Flake you wrote about the Stampede. This year you make it sound even more exciting. You know, once MiniHot is old enough I think we should take him to Calgary to see the Stampede and after we will go dino hunting in Drumheller. And since you are honorary grandpa we might just have to stop by your place for some of that B-B-Q. Nothing beats Alberta prime. I don't remember food so much but I'll never forget the steak I had there in 1993. Damn good eatin'

Pickers....It's a total riot.  You and Mr. P would have a ball.

Twyla.....What?  You thought we only have Inuit and ice?  LOL....Calgary is Canadas' version of Dallas.

MissMimidoll....We ll roll out the special red carpet and white stetsons for you.

Queen......If it encourages you any, I found a new Filipino restaurant today....havent tried it yet but I ll let you know if its any good.

Skald....Sorry the second link didnt work.  I d be pickled tink if you and Pore turned up in Calgary.

Unique...........We could get something going with overnighting food around North America....You might be on to something.  That State of Cali has a lot to answer for as far as I m concerned.  Want I should come down there and straighten them out?

Zee.....I know you ve seen much of the territory north and west of us.  It really is an adventure to make an appearance hear.  Maybe next year?

Mobil......The chucks are a sport on to themselves.  Would you believe the animal activists are trying to shut them down?  Hope you make it next year because the life of chucks could be limited.

Wombie......It wont be the same without you but I ll try to find a stagecoach ride on your behalf.

Hotaka.....I m sure MiniHot will be a big hit around here.  I cant wait for him to arrive.  Dino hunting in Drum is a hoot as long as the sun doesnt fry you.  That whole valley area has changed a lot since you ve seen it.  They re going for the tourists in a big way.

Really? The last time I saw it was September, 2005. It was pretty quiet then. Maybe everyone was back at school.
