Who's reading soaringraven (37):
Ok. so I'm new around here.  I have spent some time reading several bloggers material and being the sort I am I have decided to do a little exercise.

I hope what I'm about to do will not offend anyone.   I am going to try to guess a few things about some of those I have read.   In all likelihood I will be way off base with most of my guesses, but I may be on the money in a few instances.   In either case there is no need to confirm or deny any of my accusations or insinuations about your identity, occupation or geographical location.  That is of course unless you want to.

I'll start out with Zayda, the first person to comment on one of my posts.

Zayda:  Aka; super z, zee or Z.   Professor in the English Department at a university in Michigan, more to the point she teaches writing.   (If I were to render a more specific guess as to where she teaches I might say Michigan State)  She has some connection to Virginia Tech (she either attended or taught there early in her career), but she doesn't hold a degree from VT.  She is a doting mother of one, a son precocious by nature.  She is what some refer to as a foodie.  I would place her in her mid to late thirties.  I picture her with dark hair, shoulder length at most with a low maintenance style.   Some might consider her manner of dress a tad frumpy, others would consider it tastelully professional.  Who am I to judge?

moonriver:   He is a poet and a romantic, even a tad eccentric.   I cannot place him in an occupation but he is more free than most to move about.  I would guess he is self-employed.  I place him somewhere in eastern asia but I have the distinct feeling that he is european by origin, perhaps Austrian.   He is married and has at least two children whom he entertains with fanciful tales and tall stories of long ago.  At least one of his children is an adult, perhaps married.   He is middled aged, perhaps in his early fifties.  His love of music tells me he has a family history in that field, as it seems music is an essential part of his personna.

silverwhisper:  Ala; Ed and too many others to mention.   I have not read a lot of his recent material since it consists mostly of polls and such.  His general location is relatively easy as he has mentioned that he lives in New Jersey, likely north jersey as he until recently commuted to the 'City'  While not a total computer nerd his carreer path has kept him close to information technology.  He is married with no children, this he has made quite clear.  He has a background in theology, either his father or an uncle was in the clergy.  His father in-law is a man of the cloth.   He likes to travel, but in short spurts.  He too is a foodie and has admitted as much.  He is in his mid to late thirties with a receding hairline, likely displays a marked widow's peak.  His most strongly held beliefs and viewpoints are not sacred.  He is willing, perhaps eager to be challanged on any of them.  He is strongly opinionated however and is always more than willing to offer up his take on any given subject.  Even when he is wrong.  He likes to stir the pot on occasion, but he will generally let others get things rolling and join the fray at his leisure.   He seems to have an affinity for trout!

evil twin:  He is a twenty something yuppie nerd, recently married.  Being a sci-fi freak, his love for Star Trek and Star Wars is obvious.   His occupation is unclear except that he is involved in some way with the entertainment industry.  (Who in LA isn't?)   He is generally soft spoken and gentle but has been known on occasion to have sudden outbursts of hysteria.  He seems skeptical of very little and is almost willing to believe anything told with a straight face.  Having been born and raised in the area he is a true Los Angelean, unlike most people the rest of us like to connect with the city.  He can't imagine living anywhere else at this point in his life.  He is not the adventurous type.  He tends to tell his stories with such flair that some may think they are made up, but trust me they are largely true.  No one but a true nerd could understand that these things can and do happen in real life.

These are the four people I have read the most so far.  There are others of course and I may add some of them later on in the comment section should this post garner any attention at all.  Some of these have likely never heard of me since I may not have ever left any comments on their blogs.

Well, I hate to say this, but you actually only got two correct about me: the most important one, that I am a doting mother to a precocious boy and that some would call me a foodie.

However, I don't live or teach anywhere near Michigan. I do hold a degree from Virginia Tech in addition to having taught there.

My hair isn't brown; it's a dark auburn/red, down to the middle of my back, curly, and has a mind of it's own most days, so definitely not that low maintenance of a style. And my style of dress is rather eclectic; some days it's bohemian/funky; others it's more tailored.

Well Zayda, I never said that I was any good at this game.  I just like playing it.  At least I got the obvious one right!

I do think it's kind of an interesting game. And after awhile, I think we all kind of create pictures in our heads about what we think the people that we read might look like or sound like. :) Sometimes it's shocking how well the images match up, but it can be equally funny how badly they don't match up at times.

soaring -- I was smiling (good-naturedly, take note!) from start to finish as I read your description of me. Actually, you got many points right about me. The few wrong ones are understandable, and I'm sure you'll quickly realize yourself as you continue to read my blogs... :-)

    * Poet and romantic -- Most bloggers here think so, and I'm not in the mood to try and convince them otherwise...lol.
    * A tad eccentric -- Just a tad? My middle name is Lunatica.
    * East Asia is correct. "European by origin..." I'll let you discover the veracity or falsity of this one... :-)
    * Married, with at least two children -- correct. Eldest child is young adult, not married, no kids.
    * Age estimate -- correct, for this fire monkey... ;-)
    * Musical family background -- correct. For starters, you can read this and this.

moon - I've read your stuff, at least some of it.  Despite any protestations to the contrary you are a poet and a romantic.  Also my use of the word 'tad' was an attempt to understate the obvious.  I will have ot dig deeper into your older posts to discover your origins I suppose.  You know of course that you have given me cause to put on my detective gear.  My sons will be dismayed!

zayda - Well I hope you got a chuckle out of how far off the mark I was with regard to you.  I still think you sound like a Michigander!  Oh well!

Well let's see...I don't really think I'm a nerd. And I actually don't like Star Trek. Star Wars, yes. But not Star Trek. It's a totally different thing! I think I'm more of a geek than a nerd....that sounds better. I am not as gullible as I appear though. I don't believe everything people tell me. But I'm far too nice to ever let on that I think people are full of crap most of the time.

But yes, I'm prone to hysteria and craziness sometimes. And the rest of your speculation is fairly accurate, I'd say. Interesting to read! I have not seen you before so this is the first I've read your blog. I'm not sure by this description if you've enjoyed my blogs or not, but if you did, I hope you'll keep reading them.

You are very observant, I must say. Good post. And I am sure that Kyle, Evil Twins tells true stories of him self.

Hello soaringraven (beautiful profile name) and welcome to the Madhouse :-)

This is one of those posts that you're disappointed when you get to the end of the comments.  I loved reading the guessing and the 'reality replies'.

Just one thing though - no one can be as funny as evil twin and be a nerd *smile*.
Kyle - you're not a geek either - loving, romantic, funny, loyal and funloving yes.

I look forward to more of these guesses soaringraven.

zayda  -  I do find it interesting to guess.  In my work I often had to guess about who a person really is while talking on the phone or engaged in on-line conference.   Many of the people I dealt with on a daily basis I have never met in person.   Some I don't think I would have any desire to meet.

moonriver - I did go back and read several more of you earlier posts.  For the most part I will stand by my description of you as a poet and a romantic.

evil twin - having read several more of your posts I must say that it is a pleasure to read your material.  I never intended to offend you by my description.  To me, I have a difficult time discerning between a nerd, a geek and a dork.  A generational thing I guess.  My children often tried to cause me to understand the distinctions without much success.

skald -  Thanks for reading and commenting.  You are too easy.  I don't even have to guess as you put it all out there with photos and all.  I love your posts even though I don't often comment.   I commented on one recent post that I didn't know what country you are from.  Since going back and reading more I now know.  Yes I think things may be a bit more harsh here in the states than they are in Iceland.
