There was a flag in half staff when I came to the pool today. I asked if Valdimar our buddy from the pool was being buried. A new woman in the staff said yes, and I had the feeling that she thought it was none of my busyness. Maybe I am wrong.
I started swimming and soon there were too many people swimming to my taste. I met thee women with the same name, Sigríður,. In the other Scandinavian languages, it is Sigrid.
Yesterday I met three people from the Faeroe Islands and they had to tell me they were from there because the Faeroese people are the only people who speak Icelandic so perfectly that you don’t notice that they were not born here. Their language is so much alike ours.
Sveinn my 86 year old buddy told me that Valdimar would be buried at 1 o’clock to day.
My acquaintances and I have been talking a lot about Valdimar since his death in the pool. I have learned much more about him.
He had 12 children. 6 of each. He was a radiotelegraphist and he controlled air traffic on Reykjvík airport for years. He was also on the staff of a cruiser that we had years ago.
Yes, we have been talking about him a lot and everyone seemed to like him.
At one o’clock I was sitting in the massage tub. Taking to one of the Sigríðus when suddenly the whole massage stopped. Valdimar did this I said and we laughed. We were not being disrespectful. It just was so funny.
Sigríður a woman exactly my mothers age told me of a funeral where the pastor had the wrong speech and the casket was way too small for that man. He had said before his death that everything would go wrong at his funeral.
By the way once when I was talking to her I found out that her great grandmother and my mothers were sisters
When I left the pool I looked in from the door and there was Sveinn sitting with someone in the massage tub and it was working. It has never stopped before.
