There was a flag in half staff when I came to the pool today. I asked if Valdimar our buddy from the pool was being buried. A new woman in the staff said yes, and I had the feeling that she thought it was none of my busyness. Maybe I am wrong.

I started swimming and soon there were too many people swimming to my taste. I met thee women with the same name, Sigríður,. In the other Scandinavian languages, it is Sigrid.

Yesterday I met three people from the Faeroe Islands and they had to tell me they were from there because the Faeroese people are the only people who speak Icelandic so perfectly that you don’t notice that they were not born here. Their language is so much alike ours.

Sveinn my 86 year old buddy told me that Valdimar would be buried at 1 o’clock to day.

My acquaintances and I have been talking a lot about Valdimar since his death in the pool. I have learned much more about him.

He had 12 children. 6 of each. He was a radiotelegraphist and he controlled air traffic on Reykjvík airport for years. He was also on the staff of a cruiser that we had years ago.

Yes, we have been talking about him a lot and everyone seemed to like him.

At one o’clock I was sitting in the massage tub. Taking to one of the Sigríðus when suddenly the whole massage stopped. Valdimar did this I said and we laughed. We were not being disrespectful. It just was so funny.

Sigríður a woman exactly my mothers age told me of a funeral where the pastor had the wrong speech and the casket was way too small for that man. He had said before his death  that everything would go wrong at his funeral.

By the way once when I was talking to her I found out that her great grandmother and my mothers were sisters

When I left the pool I looked in from the door and there was Sveinn sitting with someone in the massage tub and it was working. It has never stopped before.

I've noticed a strong connection between strange events and the passing (or funerals) of people too.  Maybe not as dramatic as what happened at the pool, but small things.

My mother and my aunt both matching mirrors, small ones on pedistals that you could turn the mirror to magnify on one side. Anway, my aunts mirror had been cracked on the magnifing side from almost as soon as they bought them.

The day she died, my mom's mirror jumped off her dresser and landed on the floor, no one pushed it and it had a crack on that same side just like my aunt's mirror........very strange huh?

I thought it funny, no odd that they can fly the flag at half mast without it being a state funeral skald. Actually i think that's pretty damn nice. Great story skald as usual.

Maybe Valdimar was saying hello and that he approved of you remembering him. And how neat that the lady you were talking to happens to be distantly related to you! :)

Uniquely. There was a thing that happened 35 years ago or so. A family friend died suddenly. My mum had a  new clock that she had on a cabinet and it suddenly stopped, a minute later our friend called and told us she had found her husband dead. Later on I learned that more clocks stopped at that moment. All by relatives or close friends. That was pretty weird.
Mobil.  I know what kind of a mirror you are talking about. I took one from my mums home when I was packing there. That was very strange. See above about the clock and our friend. He did not go many places but he visited us often with this wife and my parents and I visited them a lot. The flag is always at half mast at the churches when there are funerals and afterwards full mast. In the small towns this is also done at public places and homes. Here not so much but it was done by the pool as he had been coming for years and he died there. I think it is nice too.

Infernal.  Yes, I think he was saying hello. This lady is related to me on the mothers side. Then there is a hair dresser. We once started talking about her village in the East of Iceland. I told her my fathers people on his mother side came form there and we found out that our great grandmothers were sisters. Then there is one with a family name. We took up some in the 1800's motley because people were studying in Denmark and they did not have our name system any longer. I have a right to that name but I don't care to use it. We are 10.000 Icelanders who belong to that family and she has that name So we are related. Mostly if I look up, there is a thing called Icelanders book on the net. You can join and see who is related to you. Most people are in the 5th generation and almost all here are related in the 9th generation.
