I just wanted to share briefly that I have really been blessed with a wonderful opportunity.
Firstly, let me just fill you in regarding my previous job. As of Jan 2008 I was going to start doing 3 days a week with the company I was working for last year. However, the company lost out on a couple of big contracts they were depending on and I was "retrenched". Actually, it went so bad for that co that they closed their London based office at the end of February. It was quite shocking esp since there were many long standing employees that all had to find new jobs at the drop of a hat.
Anyway, I did work for the first 2 weeks of Jan before finishing off with my previous co. Then we went away at the end of Jan to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. And ever since then we have had a stream of visitors, 2 from South Africa and 3 from Czech Republic. So, I didn't really have time to get stuck in and really search for a job, but I did regester with one employment agency. . .who haven't contacted me to date actually!
I was also concerned about going into full time employment again esp in London central because the commute is so time consuming and Tigger would have to be in nursery school for long hours once again. Ideally I wanted a part-time position which was more local to where we live.
My prayers were answered when my niece contacted me about 2 weeks ago asking if I still wanted work. She said that someone in their HR Dept had resigned without warning and that the HR Dept needed some urgent admin help. Of course I was very interested because the company is nice and close to where we live, about a 15 drive. I sent off my CV to my niece and she passed it on to the HR Manager. I didn't hear from either of them for a week and then just thought "Oh, well, they must have found someone else".
Last Friday I got a very unexpected call from the HR Manager who asked me to pop in for an interview on this Monday past. I went in and it was a nice and informal interview. She explained that it was really a temporary position and how did I feel about that. Of course at present any work is better than no work, so I was very pleased. She then went on to say that my niece had explained that I have a young child and that they are happy to be flexible with my working hours - how about 10-3! How amazing is that!!??!! I was so pleased! Those are wonderful working hours and I will be paid hourly, so that suites me just great, because it means if I am needed then I can earn extra for overtime. I start next Monday!
Anyway, I know this was long, but I just wanted to share the good news with you :-)
