Lately it's been brought to my attention that I've been talking in my sleep. I don't think I've ever really done this before too much, but apparently I'm on a roll now! I don't know if it has to do with the new medication I've been taking or what. But I seem to be doing this a lot lately.

Last night, I was laying there in that state where you're not quite asleep, but you sorta are. I was still aware of my surroundings, but my eyes were closed and there was some sort of dream scene in front of my eyes. But I wasn't really completely asleep. And for some reason I said out loud, "I'm turning your mother into a stormtrooper"

Do not ask me what the hell that means. I don't even know who I was talking to. But Nat started laughing and was like, "why do you want to turn my mother into a stormtrooper?" Good question. I have no idea! Why did that even come out of my mouth? The little dream picture I had in my head was a person standing by a tree. I don't know who the person was either. But the words, "I'm turning your mother into a stormtrooper," did not seem to fit this dream situation either. I think I'm truly insane.

And a few nights ago, I started laughing in my sleep. And I was just told this morning that on Saturday night I said these words about 3am, "you are my little blue diamond." Huh? Again, I don't think I was talking to Nat. Blue diamond? Was I talking about the almonds? Was in love with an almond in my dream? Or did I find an actual blue diamond? Who knows?

I know that awhile back I got mad at Nat in my sleep. I kept asking her where my brother was because I thought he lived in our garage. And again, I was sort of awake and actually sitting up, but I have no idea what the hell I was talking about. Jack has never lived in my garage. But I was mad because Nat didn't believe me when I said he did.

Am I losing my mind here? (or is that already gone?) Does anyone else talk in their sleep like this? I'm thinking it has to be my medication doing this to me. Hopefully I won't spill any deep dark secrets while I'm asleep. So far, I've confessed my love for Blue Diamond almonds and revealed my diabolical plot to turn someone's mother into a stormtrooper. I'm in trouble!

I lived in your garage? That would suck. It's really small in there and it smells bad because of your cat litter boxes. Where would I sleep? On the workbench?

I know that I've talked in my sleep before, but I don't think I do it a lot either. Hopefully you don't spill any more top secret info like turning people into storm troopers.....

    Funny stuff, dude.

i don't think i talk in my sleep, but my middle daughter does this all the time and has every since she was about 3 or 4.

sometimes i'll think she's awake or that she left the tv on- and go into her room, only to find out that she's sound asleep-  When she was little she would be fighting with someone.  It was like she was working out the issues in her day in her sleep!

***giggle***...oh god, this is gonna make me laugh so hard I snort!  I hate when that happens...  ahem....

I bet it's the new meds, Kyle.  I took something years ago that caused me to have the most vivid, colorful dreams for a while.  I really enjoyed them.  I wrote about one in a comment on one of your dream posts, I think.
I wouldn't be concerned about it, you're not insane...it's probably the old neurons firing in response to the medication.

Ok, THAT is seriously funny!!  Weird, but funny.  I wanna know if you come up with any more zingers!

I don't know if I talk in my sleep.  My husband does, but it's mostly nonsense words - but spoken with all the intonations of a normal sentence, and he gets very insistent about whatever the hell he's saying if you try to talk to him!

I knew a guy once who could have total conversations in his sleep.  Like, respond to what you said, answer questions and everything.  Totally asleep, never remembered a shred of it the next day.  He did it once at camp and one of the camp counselors was new that year and didn't know about it, so he talked late into the night with the sleeping guy and then it scared the bejesus out of him when the kid didn't remember any of it - the counselor thought he had some kind of head injury or something!

I sometimes talk in my sleep.  Last night I was "hearing" in my sleep.  I must have dreamt that Bill was talking to me from the living room. (he does that a lot)  I woke up and told him that I was too tired and could we talk about it tomorrow.  He had no idea what I was talking about.

More often I'll say a few words.  Bill does it too.  Both my kids do it.  If you want to know what my daughter is keeping a secret all you have to do is ask her while she's asleep and she'll spill it.

I don't know what your taking medication wise, but have Nat look it up and see if talking in your sleep is a possible side effect.  I'd hate to think that you'll be turning anyone into a storm trooper!!

Will you turn my mother into a stormtrooper, please? That would rock! :-D

You're not crazy. Or at least you've got company. I talk, yell, sit up, sing, etc. in my sleep a lot. Sometimes I wake myself up doing it! :-p Rob sleeps with earplugs because of it.

Once, in college, my roommate was staying up late to finish a paper and I had gone to bed. She said I sat up, eyes wide open, and asked, "What time is it?" so she said, "Two fifteen!" and I apparently didn't register this, so I got mad and yelled, "What TIME is it??" really loud. She yelled the time right back at me, and she says then I stretched back out and got quiet. I don't remember any of it.

I can sometimes hold conversations in my sleep like the guy nyt mentioned. Don't ask me anything important unless you're sure I'm actually awake! :-p

hahahahaha.. lol.. thats funny.. but you're not going mad.. don't worry.. My younger sister does this all the time. One time she said out loud "two magnifying glasses please".. lol.. Another time she said "Female astronaut".. Recently she was sleeping next to me when I was visiting and she turns around and starts giving me instructions on how to land a plane.. I ask her "Are you my co-pilot?" .. she says "Yes.. now lets not crash".. All this while she was sleeping ans she has no memory of it in the morning usually! lol..

LOL, I used to talk in my sleep and sleep walk! I had night terrors also.
     At least those aren't happening!
I kind of out grew it.
It could be the meds or it could be stress.
Most of my episodes occured when I was 16 and stopped when I was in my mid- twenties.

I'm turning your mother into a stormtrooper" Well I could not help laughing when I read this. Anyway I don't think you are crazy. I dream all kind of nonsense and I usually don't know the people, places or situations in my dreams, Not when I wake up. Usually is an overstatement, often is what I should have said.
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Apr 08, 2008....
I woke up and said once, "You have to be Top Gun.  Right now, you're just Gun".  What the?  I blogged about it not too long after it happened.  What the other bloggers said on that post was really funny as well.  Especially the comments left by Moonriver.  A comic gem.  Here's a link to it if you want to take a gander.

My mom would have made a killer stormtrooper back in the day.  She was a holy terror at times(though in her defense, I must say that I deserved every moment of it).

    Good stuff.
  • vacantmind said on Apr 08, 2008....

My husband does this...all the time. He woke up to tell me that there was eels in his cereal. He was mad because he couldn't catch them. He talks constantly and most of the time it doesn't make sense. I sit there and hold conversations with him. They are hilarious.

I think your normal! But, what the hell do I know, my husband eats eels for breakfast!

  • gingersoul said on Apr 08, 2008....

Kyle......actually, i like sleep talking........that little blue diamond you were talking about was such a sweet thing to say...and i am sure it was about Nattie...:-)

I dont talk in the sleep if not rarely....but its an activity that fascinates me....my ex would sometimes start to say something in the middle of the night and being me a light sleeper i would always wake up and listen.....

I also asked him stuff to see if he would answer...sometimes he would indeed give rational answers....but most of the time he would just talk crazy....

But one night he started to laugh in the sleep.......a very sexy, soft laugh...i immediately picked up my ears..and then he said  "You are so crazy"....few words but i got this sharp gut feeling he wasn't dreaming me...

Guess what? I found out few weeks later he was having an affair....

So, Nattie, sometimes is good when a man talk in the sleep...a tape recorder on the bed table is also a wise thing to have.....LOL..

  • quietone said on Apr 08, 2008....
kyle ~ you aren't crazy... (well maybe a little) but in a good way!  I also think it could be a mixture of the meds and also maybe you are a bit more tired?  I know when I get really over tired I can talk in my sleep or snore really loud and end up waking myself up.  sorry bud, but you are normal.. well what ever "normal" is!  but that was pretty funny about the mother thing!

Mr. Box--I suppose you could sleep on the workbench. As long as I moved all my crap off it first! Everyone always told me I talked too much, and I guess I don't even stop when I'm sleeping anymore. Hopefully I won't spill anymore plans to turn people into stormtroopers...

secret--I guess a lot of people have conversations in their sleep. But it's so weird! Especially if you're fighting with someone.

twyla--It probably is the medication. This never happened before that I'm aware of until I started taking it. I wish I had more vivid colorful dreams because that would be cool!

nytquill--I guess I've said a lot of nonsense words lately too. Nat can't figure them out because I'm mumbling. But that would be so strange to have a full conversation with someone and have them not remember!

uniquely--I often think I hear the phone ringing in my sleep. I've even answered it before and I'm really confused because no one actually called! The medication I'm taking is Lexapro, so I think it can do all sorts of crazy things to your mind. Probably including making you talk in your sleep.

Infernal--If I knew how to turn someone into a stormtrooper for real, I'd do that for ya :-P I'm so glad I'm not the only person who does this stuff! And it's weird how cranky you can get in your sleep too when someone doesn't understand what you're saying.

    queen--I'm glad I'm not alone!

diabolic--Two magnifying glasses, please? That's hilarious! You have to wonder what the heck that was about huh? You sister sounds hilarious when she's sleeping.

pickers--I used to walk in my sleep when I was a kid. But I don't think I've done that since I was about 11 or so. You're right it could be stress causing this too....

lionesss--It sounds like you're a very active sleeper!

skald--I'm glad I made you laugh :-) Isn't it weird when you dream of all these different people that you've never seen before? I always wonder if they're real people I just haven't met yet!

grape--That was funny about the Top Gun thing. And that post you linked was good too! I didn't realize you'd posted about this before, but at least I'm not alone with the sleep talking!

vacant--Eels in his cereal! That sounds like a really horrible dream he had, even if he doesn't remember it!

ginger--That's too bad that you think your ex was dreaming about another woman. But sometimes people can't help who and what they dream about! It just happens. I'd be interested in hearing a tape recorder of me talking just because it would be funny!

quietone--I think you could be right about being overtired too. I've been totally exhausted lately and not sleeping near as well or as long as I want. And I don't know what that is either. I think it might be the medication doing that too. But at least I'm entertaining Nat!
  • allswell said on Apr 08, 2008....

lol...i'm so glad i don't talk in my sleep! Maybe you have too much on your mind...and it's not letting you sleep peacefull, so that's why your talking in your sleep...who knows! My four year old talks in his sleep sometimes, but sometimes he gets really pissed off in his sleep  and....well it kinda freaks me out! At least your not doing that!

    alls:)

i have an issue with this actually ..and sleepwalking although it hasnt happened since for a while..and i pray to god it doesnt return..i was told it would stop once i got older!..but lets get back to the sleep talking..your lucky you say random stuff ...i have confessed in sleep to so many things i would never say aloud!!!!!!! my doctor told its because i go to  sleep all worried  with things in my head and it comes out when im sleeping...worst part is  i share a room with my sister..so one night i was really stressed from my work..and i went to bed early...apparently to my sister i confessed i was inlove with my neighbours son..and i dont mind havin sex with him.............OOOOOOOOOOOOH so embrassing!! my sister promised she wouldnt tell anyone..but she sure does use it as a good blackmail over my head whenever i dont feel like doin chores lol!! But yeah sleep talking...very normal to me. I just hope i stop sleep talking my secretsssssss!! ciao!

I am crying with laughter over the stormtrooper part!

It might not be your meds; it could just be things on your mind.

My husband talks in his sleep.

He has been known to sit up and start talking. Sometimes it's complete nonsense. Sometimes it makes sense. And you can have an entire conversation with him. But he will remember none of it in the morning.
  • CreativeWoman said on Apr 08, 2008....
Not long ago I dreamed about stormtroopers too.  I was defending a Chinese restaurant from them.  Funny, huh?

Anyway, I am told that I do talk in my sleep sometimes but it's very soft spoken and hard to hear.  I never remember it though.

My dad talks in his sleep all the time.  He says really funny things like, "Hand me that cucumber wrench."

I think you are quite normal or that we all are ready for the loony bin.  :-)

OMG, that is ONE FUNNY sleep talk!  I LOVE talking in your sleep posts!  This one by JadeLondon was SO freaking funny, even the second time around I still burst out laughing.  I HAD to go and find it for you, it is that good!

Oh yeah, I talk...Talk all night long if I could!  I've woken myself up during mid laugh and not have a clue what was so funny!  Little D...giggles in her sleep and has for a long time now.  We noticed it when she was a baby, but she would NOT giggle during the day at ALL!  So, her first smile took a while to be captured on the camera!

I remember calling my Mother a "ding-a-ling" for not getting me "tape 38!  I was just glad it wasn't a "shit head" that I called her, lol!  My Sister caught me talking and just burst out laughing while I was in mid sentence.

Mr. Daily says he can hear me talking and runs in, but forgets what I say by the next morning.  I want to say "AMEN" to that!  I want to know, but I don't!  We keep each other up when we do sleep in the same bed, and if I'm actually (by way of a miracle) sleeping.

The only time I know of where I talked in my sleep was when I was a little kid and I yelled out "I like Willie". I think it may have been Willie Mays I was talking about, but I never did care about him because he wasn't on the Yankees.

My mom once had a dream about my sister doing something mom didn't like, and mom was really mad at my sister for what she did in the dream, and gave her a piece of her mind. It was not safe to misbehave in one of mom's dreams.
  • evil_twin said on Apr 09, 2008....
lidia--You do need to be careful if you spill your deep dark secrets in your sleep! That would be embarrassing....I know once I said the name Karen in my sleep but I don't know anyone by that name! It's still a mystery, but it did get a raised eyebrow....

zayda--I'm glad the stormtrooper thing made you laugh. It made me laugh and I'm the one who said it! I don't know if it's the medicine or just stress. But it's definitely happening a lot more now than it ever did before.

CW--You dreamt about stormtroopers and a Chinese restaurant?! That's hilarious! Maybe you were in my dream and it was your mother I was turning into a stormtrooper? ;-) And about your dad, I wonder what a cucumber wrench is?

Daily--I read that post by Jade before! It was hilarious. It cracks me up the strange stuff people say when they're asleep. And since you're always over tired, I bet when you do sleep, you have lots to say!

Mimi--I laugh in my sleep a lot but I never remember what was so funny. I wish I could!

phoeby--It's nice to see you again :-) I'm doing okay. I've cried out in my sleep before, but I don't remember what was happening to make me do it. It's amazing the things we do and don't remember!

Lfbno--I've been mad at someone before because I had a bad dream about them. And on the flip side, I've found myself attracted to certain people because I had a good dream about them too. It's weird!

You don't even want to KNOW half the stuff I say in my sleep!
From what I've been told, the last time I spoke was about little D. and Mr. D. is the one who caught me saying the dumbest thing (and for once he remembered):

"Little d. you can't play the Wii until you finish making slab sloppy for dinner!"

Like I was the wicked step-mother!!!!!!!  I can only think that I was dreaming about the stupid jack-hammer guys breaking up the slabs of concrete that day and Little D. was coloring all outside the lines and I told her she was being sloppy!  She KNOWS how to stay in the lines and was just being bratty.  Oh, and I guess I must have wanted to eat, lol

Talk about a lot on ones mind!  What a stupid dumb dream!  Like I want to be heard talking like that, lol!

i read the thing about stormtroopers, and my first though was, "jeez, only kyle..." and then i read CW's comment in which they made an appearance in one of her dreams too!

that's colossally bizarre! i don't think it means you're insane, but definitely weird. and let's face it, weird is good. :D

i don't talk in my sleep but apparently i'll periodically laugh hysterically, i understand. now and again, the mrs will ask me during the day WTF i was laughing at around 4 am and of course, i haven't the faintest!

batty--I'm glad you enjoyed reading this :-)

daily--My dreams are often crazy too. But usually when I talk in my sleep, I never remember the dream that goes along with it. I wish I could!

silver--I've been stressed lately, but I'm sure it'll pass. I'm not really sleeping that well either, so that makes it worse. But anyway, me and CW have stormtrooper dreams, but hers sounded funnier than mine! Especially since I don't even know why I said what I did, because it didn't make sense in the dream either.
