Soo...never rains but it pours, right?

Got back from trip.  Lots of "back from trip" housework to do.  DH sick.  Me with PMS.

Cable went out yesterday morning, so no internet, no TV.  The repair guy just fixed it a half-hour ago.  That's, like, a whole day without internet! *twitch*

And now, I'm getting sick.

On the bright side, I spring-cleaned my corner of the living room yesterday (nothing better to do!)  Found a $20 gift certificate for DH from Christmas, and a 7-lbs hand weight I forgot I even bought!  That's extra cool because I was just starting to need a 7-lbs weight for some of my exercises.  Though I'm not doing any this week what with not feeling up to it.  Figure once in a while I need the rest more than the exercise.

Oh, and I cleaned my keyboard.  Like deep cleaned, took every key off and went over it all with a Q-tip.  God, that was gross! I eat at my desk and I try to keep it out of my keyboard, but wow!  And the cats love to sit in my lap and rub their cheeks on my desk...you can imagine.

I also got halfway through The Shipping News (and if you can't tell, it's definitely influencing my writing style today!), tried out my new "home fragrance oils" (like essential oils but synthetic fragrances) that I bought on our last trip, and watched "I Am Legend" last night with DH.  And totally pigged out last night because it's been like two weeks of no normal routine and that REALLY gets to me.  I need things highly ordered and predictable!

I'll try to catch up on all the posts and replies I missed.  But for now I'm off to enjoy my Sleeptime Tea and the Shockwave.com games that came out yesterday while I was off-grid.  And try to get my space bar to behave (always takes it a while to settle back in 'cause of those stupid metal prongs).  And probably sleep.  And more chocolate.  Yeees...

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I really should clean my keyboard too. I eat at my desk all the time and there are definite crumb pieces lurking around. Not to mention dust and all sorts of things I don't know what they are.

I hope you feel better soon though :-) And I'm glad you got your internet back! I literally go insane when mine isn't working. It's like drug withdrawal....

U-I: Thanks.  Now I've got the hiccups on top of everything.  Somebody shoo -hic!- shoot me. :p

E_T: I know what you mean.  At least a dozen times I actually sat down at my desk to google something, and I had my hand on the mouse before I remembered.  It's like an automatic motion :p

The internet is like my second brain.  I'm so used to having anything I need or want to know right there at my fingertips.  And all my games.  It's always really weird not having it, even though I still remember (vaguely) the days before internet and I know I am perfectly capable of suriving without it.  I just don't WANT to!  And to be honest, society is not going back from here, not voluntarily.  So there's no reason to put any pressure on myself :p

I hate how dependent I am on technology without even realizing it.  But I like video games and computer games, and I like posting and chatting and browsing.  Too much to give it up voluntarily.  I mean, I met my husband online (through a game)!  At least I do still read books from time to time...

A whole day without internet?? I'd be bonkers! I'm glad it's working now.

I don't even want to know what my keyboard looks like under the keys! :-D Eww...

Hope you feel better soon, too. ((hugs))

Hi, its possible to use a vacuum cleaner on the keyboard and I sometimes use vinegar to get the grease off the keys. That is my pet peeve and probably comes from eating chocolate to revive the soul at the keyboard.

I sicced my hand vac on it but it couldn't handle the cat fur/grease/bread crumbs combo!

I have oily skin and even if I never ate at my desk, my keys would get greasy.  But the eating doesn't help.  I'm not about to give it up though!  I eat consciously even at my desk, and we don't have a dining table (I've co-opted it for counter space since we have none).

Cookie and ricecake crumbs are pretty bad for the key function also. Cat fur dosen't seem to make too much trouble, the cat however, loves to run over the keyboard and push all sorts of keys and mess up the programs.

OK, i'm a bit of a fanatic about keyboard hygiene. i always wash my hands before sitting down to a computer, b/c i know i can't clean it the way i really want!

you know, having seen the shipping news, i have to confess i'm not a fan. :

Bah.  The book is better than the movie (if it tells you anything, most people in the class I was reading it for enjoyed the book but thought the movie was crap).  I appreciated it more than most because of my connection to the region, so the visuals and the details were a treat for me.  But I agree it doesn't do the book justice at all, and it's not exactly a gripping film ^^

It's a better read, for example, than Snow Falling on Cedars, a.k.a. Sleep Falling on Readers (seriously, my professor called it that :p )

i have to say, snow falling on cedars came out at the same time more or less as cider house rules and the mrs and i had the hardest time keeping 'em straight!

    lol! I can imagine!

The thing about the book is that the author is very methodical, spends literally all day to write just 400 words or so, and it shows when you read through it.  The plot has merit but oh my god plodding through that book was something else!
  • silverwhisper said on Apr 05, 2008....
see, that little detail guarantees that i will never, ever read it.

I don't blame you.  It's not a book I recommend to others, for example.  I can't comment as to its literary merit but it was a bear to read.

    Unlike The Shipping News :D
