Big Band sounds are still floating in my head.  I've been to a benefit for my nephew's high school jazz band.  I know I'm the proud aunt, but he makes that trumpet sing.  This evening's event was a dance at the Eagles Club.

I haven't enjoyed myself as I did tonight in a very long time.  No, I didn't dance.  However, I did enjoy watching everyone else.  People of all ages were cutting a rug.  Fathers were dancing with daughters and mothers with sons. Toddlers were spinning around.  Great Grandparents were putting them all to shame.

The jazz band was set up on a stage just like back from the Glenn Miller era. The music and the ambiance gave it a wonderful feeling of nostalgia.  The jazz band musicians were dressed in black trousers, crisp white shirts, and deep red ties.  They looked really sharp.

It really was a magical evening.

At the end there was a big standing ovation.  I thought it was well deserved.  Everyone left smiling. It was a real feel good kind of evening.

I was so glad I went to see my Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.  :-)  (I can just see him rolling his eyes at that one.)  It was well worth the drive.

CDub, this made me smile.  It sounds like it was a fabulous evening.  I love Big Band music, especially Glen Miller.  I love to watch people losing their inhibitions and dance like crazy.  I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed yourself so much.  :)

    Mimi,
It really was a great time. They did a wonderful job.  The venue was small and that made the sound encompass the whole place.  Everyone there was smiling all evening.  :-)  It was nice seeing grandparents teaching their precious ones to dance the steps they obviously loved.

    secret.
Thanks. I am always in awe of my nephew's talents.  He's a very humble kid, but he has such natural ability with most things.

    Actorguy,
I love the "Divine Miss M".  :-)  She does a fun version.  Thank you for posting this.

Hi, I think that the big band era had the most up music I've ever heard and we love Glenn Miller. Why not a real revival of big bands?

    Grape,
I would have been happy to accept your offer to dance.  I'm no Ginger Rogers, but it would have been fun.  :-)

    skald,
It was fun.  I'm glad I made you smile.  :-)

    Trinov,
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed big band music until last night.  You are right.  It is very uplifting.  I think a revival of it would be great too.  :-)

I love big band music. That was all my grandmother would play. Just imagine that was controversial music at one point! I am glad you had a good time.

    vacant,
I'm sure the love songs of that era created their own raised eyebrows at the time.  They are so sweet now.  I love them.  :-)  My best friend's mom always loved big band music too.

Let us dance!...
We had a big dance competition and a couple of big performances coming up, and I am very frustrated. Seriously missing Kincaid's friendship right now.

And its stupid and completely selfish. Which makes me feel even worse....

Meh

I'm running out of title ideas today....
Yes once again my mother....
A song I wrote, it was aimed for pop but now has more of a rock feel than I originally intended....
