I was having this conversation with someone the other day and the subject of curses came up. I said that I'd
read a story about how green cars were cursed. And I actually had my own personal experiences to back this urban legend up.
Several years ago, I owned a green car. It was never my first choice in car colors, but it was cheap and I didn't much care what color it was because it ran and was a decent car. I'd never been in an accident before and had never had anything of mine stolen either. Not until I bought this car. The first thing that happened was the second day I had the car, I smashed the wheels into a curb at the drive up ATM machine. I had it TWO days and I'd already damaged the car.
But I figured oh well, and just kept driving it. About a month after that, the car was broken into at my apartment complex and they broke the gear shifter, stole my stereo and a pack of gum. I couldn't drive the car because of the broken shifter, so I had to have that fixed right away.
The body shop told me the part was a rare one, because the car was automatic, whereas most of these crappy ass cars were manual transmission. They had to order the shifter from China. And it literally arrived on a slow boat from there because it took about 6 weeks to get here!
But then I finally got my car back and everything was good again. I even bought an alarm system so no one would steal my new stereo. About two months after I got the car back, I got broadsided turning into my apartment complex. I was hit by someone going about 60mph and they almost tore my car in half. The wheels were all smashed under the car and it's a miracle I didn't die. I thought the car was totaled but the damages came in just under the cut off point for a total loss, so they fixed it for me.
That took several weeks, and when I got it back, all shiny and new, it took about another month for a huge 4X4 truck to back into me at a stoplight and completely destroy the front of my car. I wasn't even doing anything this time except sitting at a light and for some reason the lady in front of me (in a GREEN truck) just decided to back up for no reason.
So the car went back to the shop again. This time it didn't take but a few days to get it back. But I was starting to think that this car was going to be the death of me. And that suspicion got even stronger when a few months after this, I got into another accident.
I was on my way home from someplace and it had been raining earlier that day. The roads were slick. And I was cruising along with a cigarette in my hand because this is back when I smoked regularly. And could you blame me? I was nervous to be driving around in a cursed car! But anyway, the person in front of me slammed on their brakes for seemingly no reason. I reacted by slamming on my brakes and I thought I was far enough away that it'd be fine.
And that might have been true except my car started sliding on the wet ground and it just kept going. I had no control over it at all. So I slammed into the car in front of me pretty hard. And before I even had a chance to get pissed off, the person behind me had the same exact problem I did, and smash! Right into the back of my car. And that's when my cigarette flew out of my hand and landed on the carpet and caught it on fire.
So I had a big burn hole in my carpet and my car looked like an accordion. No one else's car was damaged, outside a small dent in their bumpers. But my car looked like a soda can that someone had stepped on.
That was it. I'd had enough. I was getting rid of this fucking green car of death. I actually took it to a dealership completely smashed up and traded it in. That's how desperate I was to get rid of it. I didn't even want to wait for it to be fixed.
Since then, I've never owned another green car. And I haven't had any problems either. *knock on wood* But how can this just be an urban legend huh? It actually happened to me! And oddly enough, one of my good friends bought himself a green VW soon after all this and I told him he was gonna be cursed too. He didn't believe me. But 3 weeks after he had the car it caught on fire and burned down on the side of the road.
So what do you think? Are green cars cursed? Have you ever owned one? How'd that go?
