My sister had surgery today. Part of it was a medical necessity and the other part was elective. She figured she had both done at the same time. She has never been under the knife. The surgery went well and they moved her out to recovery. While putting the pain medication on board she arrested and they had to shock her to get back.
She is recovering in ICU and the doctors think she had an allergic reaction to the pain meds. We had a similar incident when my oldest had her tonsils removed. She arrested due to pain meds. I remember hearing the code and the rush of people into the OR. The doctor came out with a list of medications to never give her. I was able to sit by her bedside and watch over her.
I can't do that with my sister. She is TX tonight, too far for me to drive. It just totally sucks! We are extremely close and I had to call her kids and fill them in on the news. I can't even be with them. It is so frustrating.

I have a similar relationship with my sister and would feel terribly distraught at not being able to be there.  Oh if I could I'd drive you there myself, find a baby sitter whatever I would.

I'm sorry honey, I hope she recovers well and there are no more reactions to meds, thats scary stuff luv, damn life throws curve balls...

She is doing okay. She talked on the phone a bit with me. She had some girl surgery, some tighting of the muscles and to fix some prolapse problems. She was able to crack some jokes about it. She said her chest hurt alot more than the surgery. It hurts to take a deep breath and all. The doctor told her that they would do an echo in the morning to check on the status of her heart but didn't think she would have any long lasting problems from it.
She is suppose to call me if she gets bored again. She is loopy on pain meds though. She is apparently allergic to Demerol like my daughter. It must have skipped me because I can take it just fine.
    <breathes a sigh of relief>

What an awfully scary thing to have to go through for all of you.  glad it went alright!
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 28, 2008....
Thank god for that!!!!!!! thats serious surgery though, she's gonna be sore for a bit.  I dare say the heart starter would do some pretty heavy bruising... ouch!

Well I'm glad.. if she can crack a joke and laugh a little while doped out of her head then she's doing pretty good I'd say.

Does she have a similar sense of humor to you??
  • vacantmind said on Mar 28, 2008....

cry...I was petrified. To lose her would have crushed me. I was overjoyed to hear her laugh.

Lucy...yes, we have the same sense of humor. She taught me everything I know. She is my big sis and she took care of me after my mom died. Teaching me all the things that a girl needs to know. She was cracking jokes about how part of her recovery was to break in her new vag.

She is most definitely going to be sore for a bit. She is going to be recooperating for 12 weeks. No Work!

  • Lucytorial said on Mar 28, 2008....
Ohh man you are so going to have to give her shit about no sex for 12 weeks..... ask her if she actually healed over ! mwaa ha ha haa

Hey she's a virgin toooo thats funny!

My sis is 18 months older than me with an even sicker sense of humor! we have a shit load in common don't we?
  • vacantmind said on Mar 28, 2008....
Lucy...My sister is 4 years older than me and she won't let me forget it. Apparently, those 4 years made her alot wiser than me or so she says. She has three kids and the prolapse were from child birth. She had that vaginal rejuvenation procedure done. So,  she claims she is a virgin again! I told her she will have to wait it see if it feels like it.

Vacant......i cant tell you how your post made me relive the worries for my sister.....when she feel ill i was here and i couldn't help her in any way ...it has been just damned frustrating .....

After the first visits to the specialist she had a serious collapse and started to take more powerful medications....still she was hiding me the gravity of her situation......it has been hard to be separated ...

I am glad you sistertr is doing better now....and also that your man is back  home......you too need someone to lean on and ease the worry...

Thought I would pop in a give a little update. My sister is doing really well. There is no sign of damage. They moved her from ICU to a regular room today. They are going to watch her for one more day and then release her. She is anxious to get out of there. This was suppose to be an outpatient surgery and she was going to recover a couple of days in a hotel room. Ha! No, such luck.

Thank you all for well wishes and prayers. I really do appreciate it.

I got my prints from that guy who got on my nerves...
My blood sugar was high this morning. I guess I'm not too surprised by that because I'm stressed. Once I get through that family reunion tomorrow, I should be fine once again. Events revolving around food really have me...
