Do you like pennies?  I DO!

 

They’re nice little copper like coins with pictures of my favorite president on them….

 

That president is: Abraham Lincoln of course.

 

You know, I read somewhere that pennies are no longer made of copper!

 

Today  they’re made of zinc with just a copper coating…

 

The reason why they’re not made of copper anymore is because that metal is way too expensive to use for the manufacture of such a low value denomination of coin.

 

Even zinc (their current primary metal) is getting too expensive to use, so there are those in Congress who would like to legally change the composition of pennies from zinc with a slight copper coating to steel with a slight copper coating ….

 

I personally don’t care what kind of metal they use to make pennies, but I would be very , very pissed if Congress ever decided to abolish pennies?

 

Does anyone out there share my sentiments  on this issue???

    It costs 1.4 cents to make one 1 cent penny. Guess who pays for the 0.4 difference I have a solution - stop making new pennies until cost of zinc and copper go down.

    What would you say to steel pennies , stained with some kind of chemical so you wouldn't need copper (or zinc) at all?

    Hi...... Steel might work. I just looked up the price, Zinc is about $2,500 per unit and Steel is only about $700. But in the future I think that coins will be phased out for debit cards. Cash (paper) will be around.
