so i'm going to be in training until next week friday-ish, but here's a brief update.
1. working with a mainframe-based database again (something i did in my first-ever job) has reminded me that my memory sometimes isn't quite as bad as i always thought--i remembered some key things that i would not have expected to remember (e.g., hitting the right CTL key in place of the enter key).
2. my co-workers are nifty people that i'm gonna enjoy getting to know better. i do wish however that there was a bar nearby so i could do a quick happy hour thing w/ some of 'em, to get to know people better--there's a lot of people in my department so having some personal details about 'em would make getting to know 'em easier.
3. there's a lot of company-specific jargon that i'm shocking myself by picking up relatively quickly. i'm hoping that this means the training process for myself and l (coworker who started the same day as me) will be shorter as a consequence--i'm frustrated by having theoretical knowledge about the stuff i've been learning but no likelihood of trying to apply it for another week or so!
4. apparently, my body still thinks that i'm still commuting into the city: i keep waking up at around 5 or so. i don't need to be awake until around 6:45 or so--this is most annoying! it doesn't seem to matter what time i go to sleep. gr...
5. i thought it took me 20 mins to do that drive. apparently it's more like 25. gonna have to drive faster. :D
