Tromping off to Quebec City again this weekend.  Going to go pay $300 to hold my breath (X-ray) and pee in a cup (...okay, that one's self-evident).  But then after that we're going shopping and maybe hitting up a museum or two.  Plus pizza, donuts, beer, hotel room...there is something about not having to change the sheets the next day, isn't there? ;)

Ah, Quebec, city of my heart. :)

There's things I want to post about but I gotta go pack and shower and stuff!  If they're still in my head when I get back then I guess that means they are important enough to post!

It should be.  I've been in love with this city for a long time.  Granted that I don't know all the different parts of town, but from the parts I do know, it's a wonderful vacation spot and I don't think it would be too bad to live in.

Which is good because I might be studying there, oh...3 years from now ;)

    À Québec ;)

Haha don't let me fool you, I screw that one up all the time (à vs. au in reference to place).  I only know this particular case because I've been corrected on it so many times!

Au Québec = the province, because it's "le Québec".
À Québec = the city, because it's "la ville de Québec".

Gender in French is a doozy.  It's one of the last remaining things I really need to work on (that and all those lesser-used verb tenses...and to be able to make agreement correctly at conversational speeds...okay I still have a lot to work on actually!)  I could handle gender if there were any kind of logic to it!  But someone please tell me why "beard" is feminine??

Anyway, we did have fun, though we ended up just relaxing at the hotel and stuffing our faces.  But I think we needed it, you know? :)

It's fun though dealing with Francophones learning English...they try to attach gender to all sorts of things!  He was raining yesterday!

And they say things like "his husband" because of course in French the gender of the possessive agrees with the possesed (son mari) and in English it's with the possessor.

ah, now that is funny! :D

i still resent gender in languages. but nearly as much as i resent declensions... :>
