If you're a coffee drinker, name your poison?

I'm a starbucks fan, myself.  I was in the Northeast this week and it's Dunkin Donuts on every corner!  I tried it - 2x, personally, not a fan.....

You?

I'm a SB fan too.  I'm just glad that DD isn't prevalent in the bay area.

I'm not a big fan of plain ol' coffee, but I drink it if someone offers or if there's no other caffeine around.  Here we have Tim Horton's and that's about it.  We used to have Dunkin Donuts but it closed last year.  I'm not too jazzed about either one, but if I can put flavored creamer (Irish cream, preferably) in it I'm happy.  I have to admit I've never tried plain Starbucks coffee.

I'm more of a tea and specialty coffee person (I like sweet capuccinos, cafe mochas, those cold coffee "smoothies," and black-and-whites from Java City).

hungry girl -- Can I break your poll rules, and rave about the special sandwich that goes with my mountain tea?

This special sandwich helped me through my most nerve-wracking days. It's simple enough to make: just two thick slabs of creamy cheese, topped by tomato slices and mayonnaise, between two slices of fresh-baked bread still hot from the oven. and mountain tea sweetened with wild honey.

Omg. Excuse me while I take a big wolf bite. And a sip on my tea. Yum. This is the life. Want some?

  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 27, 2008....

Nyt - Do NOT try it, then!  There's something addictive in it.  I love their non fat latte's - and if there wasn't some fairy dust, or something, in it - I wouldn't keep paying 4 bucks a cup for it!

Moon - sure you can break the rules!   And thank you for offering, but your sandwish doesn't sound like something I'd eat.... I can't stand mayo....  What is "creamy cheese"?

Unique, yes, consider yourself lucky, indead.  DD isn't prevelant where I live either, but it sure is in the Boston area... I had to HUNT for a starbucks and passed 6 DDs on the way!

  • moonriver said on Mar 27, 2008....
hungry girl -- Ok, you can forego the mayo. You ask what's creamy cheese. This. And this. And this. Isn't it obvious yet? I'm trying my darndest best to try and whet up your appetite for  f-o-o-d.  :-)

  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 27, 2008....

    of course it is....
It isn't that I never think food sounds good.  But I am not worthy - and if I eat - I feel like I am a failure.  Becaseu I gave in - because I couldn't stick with it.

(I'm sure that makes absolutely no sense, I'll try to think of another way to explain it)

  • Mamie said on Mar 27, 2008....
ok, I am a star bucker...tall skinny sugar free mocha frapp please...it is frozen, chocolatey, caffeiney and yummy!! Non fat (or is it low fat, I forget) and sugar free, it there anything better than that?
  • moonriver said on Mar 27, 2008....
hungry girl -- Actually, now I understand better. You are making a lot of sense. Let's talk some more later about feelings of failure and not sticking with it. Lots of time for that. Meanwhile, enjoy your Starbucks non-fat latte and I'll enjoy my awesome cheese-and-tomato sandwich with mountain tea. ((burp!... sorry...:-))

Home brew is best, I have a coffee bush, I pick the beans by hand, de husk them, dry them, then slow roast them, grind them and make my own bodem of coffee.... no brought coffee does it for me.
  • Mamie said on Mar 27, 2008....
no way! How cool is that Lucy!! Next coffee chat at your house!!
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 27, 2008....
Absolutely! I lurv my coffee and I lurv to CHAT!

    Everyone welcome!
  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 27, 2008....
Lucy - send over a cup of your homemade brew - and make it a strong one.... with maybe a shot of baileys!
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 27, 2008....
hmmmm actually my home brew goes better with cognac, its strong, rich just like a really good ahem... anyway, will do.  I have been a coffee addict for years. We don't have those chains here, only the proper barista's  who can brew a machiatto and make it taste reasonable.
  • Mamie said on Mar 27, 2008....
ok I am a cognac virgin, but I am also a risk taker!
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 27, 2008....
Ohhh mamie... cognac is basically really really really old port, its fermented longer, is darker, richers, spicier thank port and its got a kick like an angry mule!

Its also great to have a half a nip when you feel a cold coming on!
  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 27, 2008....

I've never had cognac either - But I'm willing to try almost anything once :-)

  • quietone said on Mar 27, 2008....
If they had a good starbucks here like the ones on the west coast... it would be starbucks all the way... unfortunately, I am stuck with Dunkin'
  • vacantmind said on Mar 27, 2008....
Starbucks! I hated coffee until I went through chemo. I think it changed my taste buds. Anyway, now I can't get enough. I am addicted to Cafe Mocha's.
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 27, 2008....
Okay the THEEE perfect coffee is as follows:

Tightly packed cafe machine cup, quick buz for the piping hot water to trickle through, thick, chocolatie, thick enough to coat your tongue... pour into a machiatto cup (tiny little sucker) then very very carefully using a small tea spoon scoop out a quart of a teaspoon of thick, hard cream! drop into coffee, same of sugar and drink very slowly... each sip must coat the tongue only, your mouth shouldn't be full of liquid, just coated so you taste the coffee bean... then once you have finished this coffee

RUN A MARATHON!  tee he heeee its a rocket! but very tasty!
  • gingersoul said on Mar 28, 2008....

    Well.......how could i resist the call?...lol...

The best coffee is the one you make grinding the beans just before you put them on the stove....this naturally implies you have a neat killer coffee machine for espresso...(like i do....lol....).

After your grind the whole beans and the smell hits you right in the middle of your nose put the right amount of water in the coffee machine. Then put in the beans now turned in powder.....and close tight....Put on the stove and wait for the magical pouut pouut sound of the water that filters thru the beans and turns in coffee.....

Then put some sugar on the bottom of your cup...and pour just few drops of the coffee....swirl until it forms a cream...then you can add the rest of the coffee.......

You should drink some water before drinking your coffee...to clean your mouth and taste the coffee better......

My favorite brand for my espresso at home is the Italian Illy Caffe' or any Hawaian blend.

Too late for a coffee now...:-)

  • killingme4u said on Mar 28, 2008....
    i'm not a fan of coffee at all...Yuck.   :))
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 28, 2008....
oh ginger.. thank you lso much love... now I really feel like a coffee to brighten my night up! keep me awake and ahem.. you know.... thanks so much!
  • husbandhater said on Mar 28, 2008....
StarBUcks of course Baby! Have you had their Wheat muffins with the nuts and the rasins in them. God to die for is an understatement and whent that coffee hits my toungue with the combo. I'm in heaven.
  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 28, 2008....

I've never had any of their food, but I do like their gum.

I need coffee right now!  I think I'll go to starbucks for a triple shot, extra hot, no foam, 1 pump sugar free carmamel, skinny latte.....,

  • beyondtheveil said on Mar 28, 2008....
I've bought one cup of plain coffee at starbucks and it was way too strong. I threw it away. Since I don't care for flavored coffee, there's nothing left for me to buy. Also, its way too expensive for a cup of coffee.
  • I'mNotHungry said on Mar 28, 2008....

BTE - well, it's a good thing you didn't drink it - cause of the fairy dust they put in it.  IF you had, you'd still be buying it..... regardless of the price :-)

  • beyondtheveil said on Mar 28, 2008....
Fairy dust?   Really?    I might try another cup.
  • Eilan said on Mar 28, 2008....
Believe it or not, I have never been to Starbucks.  I'm not sure there is one within 50 miles of me.

We don't have Dunkin Donuts or TIm Horton's, either.  My town sucketh sometimes.
  • Expendable said on Mar 28, 2008....
I like Dunkin Donuts. Good plain (almost) non-pretentious black coffee and a ton of things to dunk in it if you want. Just remember that Miss Manners said you're suppose to break the donut in half first. I wonder if that included a filled...?
  • desdemona said on Mar 30, 2008....
Starbucks for coffee, DD for donuts. The fortunate have both franchises near each other!
  • naturalboi said on Jun 14, 2008....

Never done starbucks, won't either.  Dunkin' is a good coffee in terms of a simple good old cuppa joe.  Timmy Ho's is the shit.  Of course I'm not into sweet, flavored, foamy and over priced coffee.  Just give me a good cup of joe and I'm all good.

    love nature and stay cool
