This article totally reminded me of Kruuyai and a post (I believe she wrote) about toilets around the world.

China is where the Olymics will be held this year.  What's the problem with the toilets?  They use "squat" toilets there!

I think they should keep the squat toilets (a hole in the floor) and not install regular toilets.  You know the women hover over the toilet seat anyway.  Nasty when they leave it for the next person.

Would you use a squatter?

daily ~ when I went to mexico... I had to used that squat position a lot as a lot of the places don't have the "seat" just the toilet.. and it sure wasn't clean either.  I actaully think it would be easier to just squat over a hole in the floor vs a disgusting toilet.

They are awful in France too.

Hm, between that and the Chinese government declaring the Dalai Lama a terrorist (!) the incentives to visit are dwindling.  :-)

Quiet:  YUUUUUCK!  Yeah, hole over floor much easier!

Skald:  Thanks for the info.  I will scratch that off my list of places to visit!

Kelly:  I second that!  I really thought my Husband was kidding when he told me that the Olympics were in China.  No matter when the decision was made to hold the games in China, it still shocked me that it would even be a place considered.  I never had plans to visit and never will. I just went ALL out on Wiki on Tibet and I couldn't even follow.  Keeping up with our war...I thought that was difficult.  Reading up on China would take me a life to do.

Toilets in China are in an abysmal state except for in medium to high class hotels. Believe me, I have seen some messes (and wrote a post about it) and I wouldn't want to sit on a Chinese public toilet if I could help it. Squatting is germ free.

you know some part here in the philippines uses the squat toilets. i used one once when we went to a countryside visiting some relatives... it's not bad as it seems... =)

I heard during the Cultural Revolution there were so many people at Tienanmon Square that they just lifted up the flagstones and put a bamboo screen around. Once the hole was full they replaced the stone, moved the screen and lifted up another stone. So, you could say Beijing was full of shit during those days. Probably you could say it still is.

Hottie:  Either give me the high class hotel or the hole in the floor!  I'd squat!  LOL@ Full of shit!  Oh, Hottie...are you guys going to go to the Red Sox game for me?  Grab me a shirt, I'll pay you through PayPal!

Queenie:  I'd take the hole in the floor/ground over some partial toilet contraption any day of the week!

daily, if I were going to it I sure would pick you up a shirt. Alas, I wasn't even aware of the game until you mentioned it. I heard there was a major league baseball game in China though.

hottie:  I'm watching it on TV right now!  It started at 6AM!  I couldn't wake up to start watching the game!  Figures, the one night I can't pull an all-nighter, lol!  They're playing again tomorrow in Tokyo.  If I manage to get some sleep tonight I'm going to set my alarm.  It's almost 10 AM here now on the east coast and the game is in extra innings.  I'm just glad I got to wake up to see some of the game!  It's very odd seeing the ad's on the padded back past the warning track on the walls in Japanese writing!

You're kidding about China right?  I'm wondering if they have squatters at the ball park there!  :-D

    Thanks hottie!

Well, they probably have some people squatting in the park. I saw a boy squatting on the sidewalk once leaving a little boy cigar. Some people go anywhere, you know.
