Yesterday I left work a little early because I had a serious case of cabin fever. I was done for the day and normally I'll just stick around the office in case anyone needs anything from me. But not yesterday. It was Friday, after all. Might as well start the weekend early!

I didn't go straight home though. I went to Target. I had a few things I needed to pick up, plus I was looking at the Easter stuff too. And while I was standing on the aisle of Easter mayhem, there was a woman there with her little boy. He was probably about 3 years old and he was sitting in the basket while she looked at stuff.

I wasn't really paying attention to them though, but I could feel out of the corner of my eye that the kid was staring at me. So I decided to turn my head and just smile at him. He was a cute little guy. And he smiled right back at me and said hi. So I said hi to him. Then he looks at me and goes, "I just farted!" Oh my God! I couldn't help but crack up laughing. It was hilarious.

But his mom became horrified and she was like, "don't say that!" And she turned beet red and apologized to me and said she was sorry. But really, there was nothing to be sorry for. Apparently the kid was quite proud of this fart and just wanted to share it with me. Typical male right?

But I guess my laughter was encouraging to him, because then he just kept shouting out, "I farted!" really super loud. I started some chaos, apparently. Oops. And then all these other people were staring at us and the poor mom wanted to die. I felt kind of bad for walking away after I got the kid all riled up, but I was done looking, so what else could I do?

I couldn't help laughing to myself though the whole rest of the Target experience. Kids are so blunt and not afraid to say anything. I'm kind of glad that adults are usually a little more reserved about the information they blurt out....

Well your smile brings out the best in everyone....ha.  I can imagine the embarrasement of the mother, although I bet she thought it was funny later.

I remember seeing a local show a long time ago, and "Bozo The Clown" was interviewing kids between cartoons.  He got to one kid who just said, "Harrrr-vy farted."

Bozo quickly moved on to the next kid and asked, "and what's your name?"

He squirrmed in his chair and said, "Harr-vy....."

Anyway, thanks for another peek into your day!

Thanks for the laugh! :-) That was a cute story, though I too can imagine the embarassment that poor mother was facing. Though, I'll agree with wombat and say that I bet she laughed about it later.

This made me giggle! I think I would be very embarrassed too if it was my child, but I would have laughed anyway! It was definitely a case of TMI but for a 3 year old a fart is pretty cool..... In fact some grown men I know still think a fart is something to be proud of....LOL!

OMG, I know my turn is coming! :-D Little one already loves to announce it when someone farts. I have visions of her yelling, "Mommy farted!" (even if it wasn't me) at a restaurant or something one day.

That's too funny though. I would have cracked up, too, whether I was the bystander or the mom!

That was funny.  I remember when my niece was little and I came home from work...then went to the bathroom.  She wanted to play with me but I said after I finish in the bathroom.  The neighbor (who was a tv tech) came to fix our tv and the first thing she said to him as he walked in the door.... Uncle Rc is in the bathroom...LOL.

LOL  My kid is 25 and whenever he uses the bathroom at my house, he will always announce, OMG, do not light a match in there!

wombat--My smile brings out the best in everyone? Thank you! But usually it doesn't compel people to fart, I hope ;-)

sunshine--I'm sure she couldn't help laughing later on. It was hilarious!

cutie--You're right, some men still find farting something to announce to the world. But usually not to strangers at Target!

D6--If I never made eye contact, it would have been safer! But a lot less funny....

Infernal--I bet you're excited for the day that your daughter tells a crowded restaurant that you farted! That's a hilariously embarrassing scenario to ponder....

RollingC--Kids are definitely blunt and to the point. Unfortunately at our expense sometimes!

Mimi--Some of us boys never grow up :-P

diabolic--I'm glad it gave you a laugh :-)

quietone--He definitely made me laugh, that's for sure!

skald--I know I shouldn't have laughed so much, but I couldn't help it! But it definitely encourages them to keep going.

Ombrelle--I'm sure you've had to deal with stuff like this a lot with 3 boys!

Kids are incredibly embarrassing. You just can't stop what comes out of their mouths. Harper is notorious for saying stuff like this.

But probably my most embarassing moment with her was when she was staring at some guy at the Post Office and she told him, wow! You sure do have a big head!

I wanted to disappear. But the guy did have a freakishly large head. She was right. But I had to explain to her that it wasn't nice to tell him that!

The French word for peanut is cacahuete - pronounced kaka-wet. One day my 4 year old nephew said: "Mom is kaka-wet the opposite of kaka-dry?"

Evil Twin: that was really funny! I could imagine the silly grin on the kid's face when he said that to you.
Ombrelle: Well this page made my day. I didnt believe I could laugh harder after reading Evil twin's post, when I got to your comment, I almost cried laughing! Thanks guys! I'm having so much fun here.

This was so cute!  Little kids are famous for this type of thing.  We call my friend's little guy "Tom Brokaw" because he is always coming out with some kind of news flash like telling the lady sitting in front of us in church that she had a really big behind.  She did, but I am sure it didn't escape her attention!  His mom explained the concept of hurting other people's feelings and he felt so bad about it, his little chin quivered ... until a few days later when he announced in the post office "That guy has no hair and his head is really shiny"

Hey, I know some grown-ups who like to announce their farts as well.  Of course, it's not as cute or funny, but what can you do?

I totally missed this post somehow. My brain is scattered lately. Sorry everyone.

Mr. Box--I remember that story about Harper! That was super funny, even if it was rude and embarrassing. Kids are honest to a fault!

Ombrelle--That's funny! And what an odd name for a peanut to be called huh?

fallenangel--It was funny! Thanks for stopping by to read it and I'm glad it made you laugh :-)

queen--I'm glad you thought it was cute :-)

wishyouwerehere--Kids really do speak their minds huh? And yes, some adults like to announce to their farts too. We're cretins!

Art is different for kids than it is for adults. It is very important for children to be able to create arts and crafts on their own without copying from an adults model...
