For the past couple of weeks I've been observing the most unusual thing from my window....
Every evening around 6 pm, a granny comes out of the gate of the apartment complex opposite mine to walk a baby in a pram. And every evening as soon as the granny comes out, there appears a thin brown stray dog right outside the gate. He kinda looks like the dog from The Simpsons.
This dog walks, dances, jumps around the pram wagging its tail and doing whatever it takes to make the kid happy. The granny used to try to shoo him away at first but now she treats him kinda like a pet, she even expects him to show up I think! But no, she doesn't give him any food or anything. She does, however, orders the dog to 'sit', 'walk', 'stop' etc totally unmindful of the fact the dog couldn't care less for it! He has eyes (and ears) only for the baby. And the baby almost jumps out of its pram to look at the dog.
The granny walks the baby for about an hour everyday and the dog is right by the baby's side for the entire hour! And no, the dog is not their pet or ex-pet or the apartment complex's general pet. No sir! Its just a random stray dog that I never even see except for this one hour! I can also see the baby responding to the dog . When the dog gets behind the pram, you can see the baby's head hanging out of the pram looking behind at the dog! Its really the cutest thing ever. If the granny sits down for a bit, the dog also sits down next to the pram or starts playing around it.
Finally when the hour is up, the dog follows the granny and the pram right upto the gate and stands there looking at the baby for as far as it remains in sight. The dog won't take his eyes off until the baby is way into the complex. Its really amusing to watch this and I wish that when the baby grows up, the granny tells him about his special guardian dog! Or maybe they'll adopt him. I don't know. What I do know is that its the sweetest thing! :-)

DD, that's such a sweet story and really interesting at that!  I wonder if the dog has memories of a baby once in its past and spending time with it. . .perhaps a life with a previous owner.  At least he is making this little child happy :-)

Lucy: I hope so too, the kid and the dog seem to be a perfect match!

Rupert: I know! It is strange.. And yep the dog totally keeps it up.. Ever day I look at my window and its the same thing! I'd say its something like love at first sight for the dog.. :-)

Polarheart: Yeah thats what I thought as well. That the dog may have memories of some baby from its past and so it likes playing with babies.. Anyway its just so cute to watch!

I am thinking that this dog is a guardian angel for this child.  It would be a wonderful thing if the dog and baby ended up adopting each other as the baby gets older.  :)  It is also odd that the dog did not falter after the granny tried to shoo him away.

we had a similar experience with a golden labradore when the children were little. she appeared out of the blue she was an old dog and she adopted us and we her and named her honeybee, one day our second son who was two then walked away from the house across a shallow creek and was heading up a wooded mountain side kinross said she found him only by the dog barking and honeybee was standing in front of him stopping him from going further.honeybee died years later ,i beried her under a orange tree and we all said a prayer for her . kinross said she felt safe with honeybee around she wouldnt let anyone touch the house untill kinross told her it was allright and then she would lie down and just watch.ps she was one hell of a dog.
