This week at work we found out that a man in his very early 60's died at home.  His son found him on the floor of his home.  He came to work that day, went home and that was it... the end of his journey of life.  He had worked here for a long time and I would assume with his age, he was looking fwd to retirement soon.

Last night I heard from my friend that yet another woman from work came to work all in a shuffle... blouse buttoned wrong, hair a mess.. just not herself.  An employee asked if she was okay, she said no.  They took her to the hospital emergency room to find out she has had a stroke.. and during the testing also found a tumor on her brain.  This woman is in her forties.

Less than a year ago another woman in her early fifties who had worked there for almost 25 years died of cancer.  She was diagnosed and within a few months she was gone.

I have only worked at this place for a little over 7 years and I have seen I bet with no exageration at least 20 people die from stroke, heart attacks, cancer.  Some have just dropped right at work.. well maybe 2 or 3.. in the last 7 years.  To me this is a bit rare and "too often".

Yes this is a big place I work at, it employs maybe 1,200 people, but still the odds of this many people getting sick and dying like this is just unreal.  It has a lot of us wondering what is going on... you know like the "Erin Brockovich" movie or something.
There is just too many people in too short of a time... here today and gone tomorrow.. no warning no nothing.. just gone.

It scares the heck out of me, but it is not a place I can afford to quit and walk away from.  I would think if it was something "in the air" that OSHA would have found it as they have to inspect the place.  I don't know if most is just "stress" related as this place can easily get to you.  I don't know if maybe it is the long hours that some put in.. like 70 hours a week.  Maybe a combination of it all.  I don't know if any of this would cause you go get cancer, but I suppose it could help bring it on faster if you had it.  Its just too many people dying too young with no previous illness or warnings.

Anybody got any ideas, opinions?

1200 people is imo a large workforce and as people age there is bound to be deaths when they are nearing 60 and on.i wouldn't think it was highly unuseual.i have a strong opinion on people working much over 40 hours a week and i reckon 60 years is old enough to have to work too,,i think things are shifting to where people are working too long.they should be able to retire at 60 and enjoy the latter years of their life. and stress is the cause of a lot of our ilness and death today.

I have no idea why or what is happening. But it does show me i'm right about ....life can change in a wink of a eye.
That's why they say ....live today like there is no tomorrow.
Hey, i'm on this kick....i don't have a word for it, just a feeling of getting it right.

How are you this day? doing ok i hope. *smile*
The river here is knocking at my back door :~o

hey Memy: get on the ark, man! yuck, yuck, get at least one other of yourself and GET ON THE BOAT!!

Ya know Quiet, this is unnerving. I find myself surrounded by a similar thing only a diff set of circumstances...but just a lot of dying...it is likely not related to your work environment, but if you wonder if the air quality is suspect, you can buy your own air quality test at like, home depot and see what you are all breathing. Or go to a beauty shop and buy a pack of those paper masks and use them for whenever it seems appropriate.

However, I think that there is just a massive shift of people moving on to the other side as we are experiencing this new earth. If you are interested, visit whatsuponplanetearth.com and read some of the ideas of the author there.

Then tap into the energy alerts and you will read of the massive energy shift happening as we speak. So the idea she has is that there are MANY who pass NOW in order to work a higher good from the other side vs the hard work of doing their work here...see  what you think...I am interested to know what you think of it.
    best, mamie

    i work in a company with 30K +++ employees.
    i've been there 23 years.
we've had 4 people i've known in all those years die from cancer.

i think something isn't right where you work.
i don't know whether it's the environment, the job, the health of the employees ---but the statistics are way too high for you not to be concerned.

quiet- I too, find this highly unusual. My local work force was quite large, had many older people, and a death was rare from any cause.
  • rupert7 said on Mar 19, 2008....
there might be something weird going on here and there might not.NONE of us here can give more than an opinion. And what is our personal opinion based on? Look at it! You have a variety of death causes. You have named 3 here, and how many more are there. If everyone died from the same thing...you something weird for sure but thats not the case from what you say.

Early sixties...not old but not young either. 70 hour week? stress, bad diet, heart disease, factor all this is and is it really likely to be something weird??

Having said that,I add that I am not saying it is not something weir, just that IMHO I don't think it likely but please read on!

Lucytorial and bluey might remember and be able to help me out with the facts here: Some time ago,I think it was in New South Wales, in the offices of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, a large number of women developed breast cancer. I can't remember the number but it was not one or two,it was a lot!! I don't think they ever found out why but they moved the ABC out of that building. Thats pretty hazy, but gives you an idea of what went on. Now that was something weird.! All the victims had the same thing though, not a brain tumor here and a heart attack there!

Everyone ~ The thing is... these people are NOT all in their 60's most are in their 40s.  Of course there are ones that do get to retire and die shortly after... I don't find that too unusual, not good for the person, but not unusual.  It is usuall a stroke, heart attack or cancer.. these are the main 3 causes.  I don't know... I guess I will be thankful for every day I have here in this life.

ed ~ unfortunately finding another job isn't financially feasable for me.  Believe me, if I could afford it and find the same benefits, I'd be gone!

mamie ~ oh this sounds interesting as well.. thank you for that link, I will go check it out.  I bet they would frown upon me if I brought one of those air quality things to work... I'd probably get fired.  Put it this way.. when we turn on one of those big industrial fans.. it gets greasy black within a few days.. but they say the air is clean to OSHA standards... makes us all wonder when we see those fans dripping with black crap... ya know.

MeMy ~ OH MY... I hope you have your high water boots on!!  I like your "kick" and good for you... and stay safe from that river!!

secret/beyond ~ I do find it unusual because they are way too young to have such quick exits so to speak.

rupert ~ heart attack and stroke are connected in a health persepctive.  Cancer, well that is just odd all by itself.  Thank you for the info though.

bluegum ~ like I said above.. they aren't all older people... most are in their 40's or very early 50's.  I donno.   but thanks for your input, it matters and makes me feel better.

    hey quiet**

First of all thank you for your nice commentary on my poem. I use to be on

tblog.com until a regular (friend) on that site told me about Soulcast . I

browsed it and found it to my liking so here I am!

I just read your most recent blog describing the most unusual incidents at

your place of employment. From what I seem to gather these "incidents"

are to closely related in time and of their medical nature to be just a

random, law of averages occurrence. Having been there 7 years and with

no personal medical afflictions contracted by you does not necessarily mean

you yourself may not be in danger.

Until you have the proper testing performed by an independent laboratory

and the results thoughly examined how can you be sure you have not yourself

become a test experiment. By staying exactly where you are at work is

exactly what management is counting on. Do you really want to play with those

kind of odds.  Take care and adios for now!

I don't know what you work with exactly, so I couldn't hazzard a guess.  But the factory I worked in for 10 years had alot of heart attacks, strokes, cancer---way to many for us not to believe it was the wood dust.  (there is formaldyhyde in it)  Even though I miss the people, that's one reason to be glad I'm no longer working there.  Sometimes we would complain and get OSHA out there to run tests--which always came back as "withing safe levels."   One girl even caught a white coat hiding a tester do-hicky under some stuff, instead of putting it by her machine!  I'm sorry to hear about your co-worker (s).  It's always a shock, no matter what the circumstances.
  • mobil said on Mar 19, 2008....
could be a quirk, kinda of a freak thing. Probably isn't though Quiet, you and your coworkers should get with the Dept. of Labor and Industry, something and have it checked out.
  • skald said on Mar 19, 2008....
Now you got me really worried my friend. First I was speechless. Then worried. I do think what Timmi said is very wise. Have some tests done. Don't risk anything. I know you need the job and it seems to be a good job but this, it makes me scared. Luv.
  • lfbno7 said on Mar 19, 2008....
Maybe the job is radioactive. What do you do?

If anyone were investigating the possibility to insure your company with any type of insurance , life, death, health, property etc. I guarantee they are asking killingme4u to pass the whiskey. Just kidding , just an inside joke but I know it's not funny and I myself would consider finding employment elsewhere if it bothered me.
  • quietone said on Mar 19, 2008....

timm ~ welcome to SC and my blog.  thanks for the information too.  I wish it was just that easy to walk out the door and quit, but this is not an option for me.

wombie ~ our readings always come back as "within safe levels" too.  hmm odd huh when the fans are covered with black dripping "stuff"

mobil ~ I am sure over the many years this co. has been in our area that many co-workers have done that already. I don't need to say what kind of reports we always get back and the treatment we receive for even thinking such things.

skald ~ oh I didn't mean to make you worry my friend.  I am okay, and do watch my health.  with my diabetes, I always get my blood tested anyway so if something was a miss they would notice I would think.

lbno ~ hey we do have some green forecent stuff that some of these people work in!  LOL  maybe I should start wearing tinfoil?

cayenneman ~ this company has its own insurance company.... now how convenient is that?  ha~ thanks for stopping by.  wish quitting was an option, but its not.

Can you request an air quality test?

A co-worker of mine and I both were attacked by paper mites. YUK!  Nothing that will kill you, obviously, but the air test detected a high level of the rash causing bastardi's.  There's really nothing they could do buy spray a little something but there are mites everywhere.

  • quietone said on Mar 20, 2008....
rupert ~ I have heard that about them.  I just want to live long enough to at least enjoy a couple years of retirement!!

daily ~ oh, yuck, I know about all those little "no see em's"  ugly little creatures too!  I think it is standard that OSHA comes in every now and again and does one anyway.. or if someone gets sick or has a strange rash appear.. after signing your life away..  they might have one done.  thanks daily.    I remember about the paper mites when I worked in a print shop.
  • crybabylu said on Mar 20, 2008....
I think that is very pequiliar, very indeed!
  • quietone said on Mar 20, 2008....
cry ~ it is a bit strange.  Not much we can do though.. either work and shut up or quit and live poor.
  • vacantmind said on Mar 20, 2008....

I think your best course of action is to contact OSHA. Tell them what concerns you and see if they will come and test the air quality and water supply. It does seem a bit strange that you are having so many deaths. OSHA will usually comply with testing if they think the request is reasonable. So, make sure you have a list of illnesses and deaths that have ocurred in the past 7 years. It will help them to determine what kind of testing needs to be done. The testing they do now may not pick up what is actually creating the problems there.

  • quietone said on Mar 20, 2008....
vacantmind ~ thank you for your input.  I will try to figure out a way to do this w/o putting my job in jepordy.
  • vacantmind said on Mar 20, 2008....
Quietone...they aren't suppose to release who makes the claim. You should remain anonymous, at least to your employer but you can always ask them before hand.
  • queenparanoia said on Mar 20, 2008....
that is scary... take care in there okay?
  • quietone said on Mar 21, 2008....

queen ~ yes I am careful and watch how I feel very carefully.  thanks queenie.
