Silverwhisper has started a blog concerning cheese, well I'm going to follow-up on that with wine, what goes better with it right?

I'm no expert when it comes to wine since my family was not big on it, but my husband's family is and I fell head over heels when I had my first GOOD bottle of wine! Don't ask me any names because there are so many!!! To my anything that is RED, fruity and dry is great for me! I really love that little oak taste in my wine, so I often check to see if the wine was brewed in an oak barrel.

Silverswhisper, I feel a rapport with you, maybe we have allot in common. I really enjoy your blogs!

What is your favorite wine?

As for the beer again I'm french Canada so we seem drink allot of it here! To me there is nothing better than a good ice cold pale ale! I just love it! My favorite brand is alexander keith's (you probably never heard of it, it's a small company on the east coast of Canada)

ah, marie-jane, how wonderful of you! clearly, cheese requires wine...or as you will soon discover, sometimes beer. :> i'm enjoying your blog as well. :> (btw, i find it funny that you spelled connaisseur as you did--only a french speaker would type it that way :> ) up until 2 years ago, i hated beer. hated it. that all changed 2 years ago. i made the decision that i'd like to try to overcome my dislike for beer. a good friend of mine, a fellow foodie and a beer aficionado, suggested visiting a local microbrewery and trying their sampler. i did that ||{1}||. and it's all been different ever since. i've discovered i'm most fond of hefeweizens (aka wheat beer) among the styles i've tried, although i also enjoy a good belgian ale now and again as well. i dislike pilsners, though, finding that in general, they're boring. in cool weather, it's hard to beat a stout, esp an oatmeal one--that'll fortify you. the microbrewery i mentioned had until recently a great item: a beer/cheese tasting. they would match 4 of their beers with 4 cheeses and in general, it was fantastic. i think they usually matched a bleu with their honey wheat, although i may be misremembering. they've matched a gruyere w/ an IPA, and i recall that being tasty. i recall a ripened cheese (triple cream?) matched with a stout as well. it was superb. among wines: my long-time favorite is beaujolais, esp the fleurie style. it's light and pleasant. of the commercial makers, my favorite beaujolais are by georges duboeuf--i detest the louis jadot beaujolais w/ a passion i reserve for those who talk in theaters. other reds i enjoy: cabernet of course although i generally only like cabs w/ a meal--it's a bit heavy on my palate for just plain drinking. margaux is a nectar of the gods but pricey so i don't get to scratch that itch as often as i'd like. now and again a cotes du rhone can be fun. moving to other nations, i love barbera and chianti, although in warmer weather, prefer a pinot grigio. if it's hot, it's hard to beat a riesling IMHO. i am almost positive i'll be adding to this later. ed

I'm an occasional drinker. So I really don't have favorites. But I want my wine sweet and sparkling. Btw, I LOVE pronouncing French names and words. Hee hee. I'm a French-wannabe. As for the beer, it's ||{1}|| for me.

i'll start with a comment about beer, and do a comment about wine later, else this will be too long. i am partial to microbrewery beers. one of my favorite places when we lived in texas was ||{1}||. i find that i am most fond of wheat beers myself. HCB's honey wheat beer is one of my favorites. their nut brown ale was also always a good choice. another of my favorites are bocks. i was introduced to ||{1}|| when I moved to texas. they are best known for their bock, but their blonde and their dunkelweizen (a dark wheat) are actually pretty good too. shiner is unfortunately hard to find here where i live now, but strangely enough, i can find the bock when i go visit family in virginia. another nice discovery i have made is the great lakes brewing company. i am not fond of all of their beers, but one of the things that i do love about their beers are their names--eliot ness amber lager, burning river pale ale, holy moses white ale (my favorite from this brewery), edmund fitzgerald porter. they incoporated the history of the area into their brews. they also have interesting seasonal selections. another decent brewery is the maumee bay brewing company. i, as you might have guessed, am not a big fan of mass produced beers like budweiser, coors, or corona. i do, occassionally, enjoy a rolling rock or a killian's red.

Like wine, I don't know many beer names, this local brewery is amazing, it's one of the only beers that I drink! ||{1}|| This beer is amazing, I love the names that they gave them and the labels. Mind you it is VERY strong but it's not the kind of beer you chug anyways, it's to drink very slowly and enjoy it. I have posters of those beers in my kitchen.

I used to not like most beers, then I tried a few micro brews from some local places, and some not so local places. Right now I've got a couple bottles of black toad. Very nice, slightly nutty, a little smokey, mmmmmm.... I suppose it is 5'o'clock somewhere...

In wines I've got a sweet tooth. Ice wines, ports, and mead are my 3 favorites. Mead is especially good, but harder to find than the others.

I am a big fan of Molson Canadian, even went in search of a 5L mini keg when i was up in Michigan (can only get the molson mini kegs in border states, evidently).

But Tiger beer, from Singapore, and XXXX Bitter in Australia will always hold a special place in my alcoholic heart.

    I miss deployments!

oh hi! we commented on silver's post and directed us
    here. hahaha

i like wines, more because its good for my tummy and
they say for my heart. We also put ginseng in our wine,
which makes it more potent, gives vitality.

recently, i blogged about duhat and bignay wines made
in our province--these are island berries.:-)

sigroid: I do remember my mother making blueberry wine when i was young

Bordy: Molson Canadian is probably the most popular beer in Canada, you'd have to be pretty fussy not to like it
