silverwhisper's tags:
we all know 'em: tags. you have to put at least one tag on a blog entry, and (often) the first time you comment to a blog entry.

i was just looking at the popular tags list. it's a pretty revealing list, if you ask me: it indicates what matters to soulcasters, and what subjects we like to address. i'm also kinda curious to see how the subtags are arranged under each major tag (e.g., under the tag "life", there are "perspective", "cooking", "depression", "musings" and "truth".

there've already been a few polls asking what people tag most often (i'm fairly certain i've done it twice, myself)--although looking at a given soulcaster's soulcast page will reveal their most frequently used tags anyway--but i wanted to ask a different question:

when you look at your own list of tags, do you feel that list is a good representation of what you blog? why or why not?

More or less, yes. My top one is life. I've used it far too much because it's my "default" tag when I can't think of anything else. I need to stop using that so much and be more specific.

Other than that one, I do blog about my son (children), work, writing, and food/recipes quite frequently.

BTW, in perusing your tags, Ed, I realized I really miss your writing exercises.

I'd say it represents what is most important to me.  I have to admit that I just flipped to my site to see what was there.  I was a little apprehensive I'd find stuff that wasn't relevant to me.

super z: that's funny, i've always felt that you're usually pretty careful in your tag choices, to be honest. and funny you should mention about the writing exercises... :D

u-i: that's a good thing that they do! :> note that it's made up only of the tags you choose--not what other people tag your posts, btw. :>

I'd say you could accurately sum up >90% of my blog entries using some combo of these words (ten of my top tags): family, love, parenting, kids, relationships, Music, sleep, dreams, writing, friends. So yes.

    What was that????????

I tried to go back and edit this as soon as I hit submit, but there was no "edit" option there! At least I didn't see it in my haste.......? I did not mean to make such a huge mess of your post!  I knew I shouldn't have tried to make a list of a few of my tags---tacky to start with---but it would not let me delete it!  Sorry....you have my permission to delete this for me!  Geesh....maybe I should go back to bed.....

Ed- My list is similar in some way to what I blog about because I think of a word that's similar. But they mean nothing to me. On others blogs, I grab the first one they used. Tags mean as much to me as being on the phone and hitting "one" to speak English. Its something I'm forced to do to make it to the next step.

OK, wombat's post did something weird with the formatting so i'm copying & re-posting the comment contents:

    wombat quoth:
I didn't realize I had so many--and this is just a few. I thought I had been "keeping my tags tight." But yes, I think these first few represent me very well. Interesting! I had never gone and looked at my full tags list before!

    118 my corner
    56 slow ride
    51 crazy wombie
50 running off at the mouth
    31 funny
    24 goodnight kiss
    23 wakeup call
    22 stealing home

it's kinda time-consuming to type up all of these links so if you wanna know more about wombat's tags, go to her blog page and look. :>

infernal: i remember a few weeks ago looking at your tags and thinking the numbers looked about right to me. :>

wombat: don't worry about it. :>

beyond: i'm honestly surprised by that, for some reason.

silverwhisper:  Thanks for deleting that mess!  I apologize!  Anyway, I had said that I didn't realize I had so many tags--I thought I was "keeping them tight."  But they do say alot about me.... and it says alot about me to mess up someone's page like I did.  Ha.... thanks again!

My top tags are love, relationships, life, funny, fun, dating, cats, romance, sex and blogging. So yeah, I think that pretty much sums me up for the most part. Though I think as far as top tags go, 'dating' should be replaced with 'ghosts' instead. I think I write about that a lot more at this point, since I'm not actually dating anymore.

Ed- Let me rephrase that comment. When I said the tags were similar to my blogs, it means they represent what I blog about mostly. However, I have yet to find any usefulness for tags on my blogs or anyone else's blog. Without usefulness they don't mean anything to me. Their existence simply requires a step to take to continue. Since being on this site, I have never used a tag in any meaningful way.
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Mar 19, 2008....
I only have a few tags that  I use.  I only have a few categories that I blog about, so I don't see it as a big discrepancy.
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 19, 2008....
wombat: ah, don't worry about it--it happens to everyone! :>

kyle: well, remember that the list is based on all the stuff you've blogged, even the pre-nat stuff. :>

beyond: o, i understood your meaning. no big deal. :>

    grape: well, that seems reasonable.

Like Zayda, I use "life" as a default tag.  My top tags are: life, humor, parenting, family, sex, relationships, children, school, adult content, and grandparents.

I think it's a pretty accurate representation.  My blog tends to go all over the place.
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 19, 2008....
i'd agree those are a good representation of your blogs, eilan. :>
