I have posts, so why not?

I went out of my way today to pick up an application for a job.

I got there and had no where to park, so I parked in a space that was pretty much a driveway.  (If I get a ticket, I will explain that I am here just to pick up an application)

I almost gave up then, but said to heck with that, and got out of my vehicle.

I walked about 100 yards to a door that said, "Go To Main Entrance."

I looked around and saw a door down a sloped paved walkway to a door that thank goodness I could see said, "Main Entrance."

I opened it.

I ended up in a small hallway that said on the door, lift receiver, push red button.

I did that three times before I realized that when you lift the receiver and push the red button that someone would speak back at you on the phone.

(I am lifting the receiver---pushing the button--and trying the door at the same time----thus not listening to the voice on the phone)

Eventually I got the rhythm and lifted the phone, pushed the button, listened to the voice and turned the handle on the door.

I kept walking toward the next door expecting it to be open.

But I heard a voice, "Can I help you?"

This came from behind me, so I turned around and saw a window that I had just walked past to get to the next door.

(Window slides open and a poofy-haired lady says, "Can I help you?")

I said, "Sorry, I had trouble with the door.  I just wanted an application."

I got my application.

I no longer wanted it.

I just wanted in the next door--but that seems like too long a walk--especially when I am parked somewhere I don't even need to be parked.

I will fill it out---but if I take it back I am in the know now.....

I know how to open the door!

When I left, some guy asked me, "Do you know where the main office is?"

I was more than happy to turn and point to the door down the concrete walkway.

And as an afterthought, I turned back to get his attention and said:

"But you have to pick up a phone and push a button, and they let you in."

I wondered if he was timid and left, or did like I did and kept at it, (after I got back to my illegally parked truck and went home) , not caring if they ever knew my name or not.

At least I got past the timid part and got in.......

Wombie, I hope you don't mind - I giggled reading this.  It sounded like something I have done.

And you tell me I am a fool after your own heart! you totally make me smile... and I know you don't mean to in that way..

Its kind of like me standing looking at a two way door with a HUGE fucking sign on the bottom right saying push...

Still standing there figuring out which way in?? then someone walks out through the other door and I try that but it doesn't budge... man at least you got in! I walked away in embarrassment!

Getting a job is harder than keeping a job.  The unfamiliar territories, the selling of oneself...  It's tough.

I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.  May you find a job with big pay and little responsibilities soon!  :)

    you are braver than i.
all my issues....and anxieties would have sent me home at the first hint of not finding a spot to park....let alone.....

wombat, i hope you'll forgive my directness but there's something i really don't understand, so i figure i might as well ask.

i'm trying to understand why you're so meek. what happened that stopped you from forming a healthy self-esteem?

You are too funny ms Erma!  LOL  You write so vivid, I could even see that poofy haired lady giving you the hairy eyeball.. and thinking "she wants to work here?"  LOL  You go for it.  make someone else ring the bell and push the button!  You will find the right job-  perceverance.. I probably spelled that way wrong but I am too lazy to look it up!  good to see you out!

fearing:  I do these kinds of things all the time.... I once thought I was locked in the beer cooler in a store, because the door shut and it was kind of dark.  All the walls were shiny and looked the same.  There I was--looking out through the butter at customers and getting cold.  I finally got out when another customer came in!

Lucy:  I know a door just like that!  Ha.   I turned back to tell Mr. W that the restaurant was closed and he was laughing at me--told me to "Pull" not "Push"---can't you read?

Grapekoolaid:  Thanks!  I hate looking for a job!  It's brutal out there....

Fallyn:  I almost drove off mad because they had no parking spaces except one handicapped.  When I left, two other vehicles were parked beside mine blocking the driveway.  And the door ticked me off!  I dropped my bag I was carrying and was cursing a little--I wonder if I was on camera?

silverwhisper:  I don't mind you asking at all, but there is too much to tell in one little paragraph.  Just think child abuse, husband abuse,  (not the current one!)  and a host of other major events in my life that even my doctor asked how it was I was still around.  Maybe I will write about it one day in detail.  I realize I just leave odd remarks here and there.  Thank you for caring enough to ask.

quietone:  Thanks!  I was just on a roll posting last night, I think.  I pretty much laughed at myself for not even being able to open the door while looking for a job.  I also haven't filled out the app and taken it back, either!  Maybe in a day or so...  I hope I find something I will like, too.  And maybe with a simple door....Ha....

Oh Wombat you made me laugh but this is also dead serious. You just tell it so vividly and funnily. I felt l was standing behind you at that door.  How things we don't know can get us timid and having to park illegally, oh that woudl kill me. lol  I do think you are one brave lady. I would have felt uncomfortable by that door.

skald:  Glad you liked the post.  I've got a million of 'em....ha....

Thanks for saying I am a brave lady.  I am going to need that thought!
