It's very easy to brag or whine about how much you are paid or underpaid - very few people complain about overpay, especially when it comes as part of a bonus package.

However, should the actual amount be divulged? Would you tell your spouse, SO, friends, siblings, and/or parents your take home pay and salary package or wages?

Telling, IMHO, seems to affect the emotion of the listener - seems to bring out the beast in most people when it's big - in terms of expectations, greed, envy, jealousy, and you name it.

If it's small, sympathy may not always be the reaction - ridicule could follow.

 How do you feel?

Yes without a doubt.  Your Spouse/ SO deserves to know how much money they have.   Certainly a spouse does.  A SO depends on the level of seriousness I would say that if you two live together and share expenses they have a right to know.  Friends, siblings and parents no so much.  You might give them a ball park figure but it really isn't any of their bussiness assuming you aren't living together and contributing to the household, again if they are depending on you to handle a bill they should be able to know you can handle your half or what not.

i'm eminently OK w/ my wife--i wouldn't make such decisions (accepting a job or no) w/out her input. similarly, within my family, we're very open about such things. my in-laws are a bit different, though. outside of family, i never discuss numbers, no matter how close the friend, though. ever.

SR: hi...on a need to know basis, I guess - as the secret services would say, on TV anyway.... ha-ha. sw: yes, in-laws would look askance at such talk, wouldn't they - even if the wifey's old man is not loaded, right? I agree with you about keeping friends at arms length with respect to how much you are paid. bluegum: hi....you're lucky, IMHO.
