I got a new washing machine yesterday.  It's nothing fancy.  It has a big tub so that I can wash king size comforters, so that will come in handy.  By going to a nearby city, I saved about $200.  It amazes me what the difference in price is locally.

Actually, I prefer to shop locally.  I like giving my money to hometown businesses.  It helps our economy, but it's hard though when you need to make your own pennies stretch as far as they will go.  I know they need to make a profit, but that's a lot of money on a major purchase.  I don't notice it so much on other smaller items. I live in a community of about 10,000 people.

Do you shop in your local area or do you go where the bargains take you?

I usually shop locally for most of my needs, but sometimes I go to the next state as there is no sales tax there.  I am a convenience shopper mostly.

CW- I do most of my shopping locally because the nearest city of any size even approaching mine is 300 and 320 miles respectively. I do, however, do shopping on the internet because of price, no sales tax (8.25% here) and free shipping. This can really help and they deliver to my front door. They get most of my money locally anyhow.

I don't mind shopping locally for anything if I can find it . In fact I welcome it. But when it comes to shoes . . . I have to search from one edge of the earth to the other. It's not really that bad but it can be a problem. I have very large feet and nobody seems to make shoes that fit them. Sometimes I think I should just invest in a box of large trash bags (designers if available) and rubber bands.

Like to do both, keep my neighborhood shop going. and I go to the low price shops near to me too.

Well I live in a big city so I don't know exactly who I'm giving my business to. Mostly I shop at the supermarket because its convenient and close to where I live. Sometimes I also go to the smaller mom and pop shops for daily provisions and things like that. For things like shoes, clothes, bags.. I usually go to a mall.. Very occasionally to a boutique (too expensive).. They're all in the city but most of them are national or international chains. So again, I don't know who I'm giving my business to.
