“Pink Ribbon Turtle 4Q” Project 2008
Jena Tuntas/Gretchen Coats
The “Pink Ribbon Turtles” are a fundraising project that Jena has done in her hometown of Cocoa Beach, Florida for the past 3 years. All donations go to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research. She does this in memory of her mother who passed with Breast Cancer in August 2000; and in honor and
memory of all those touched by this disease.
“I was very excited when I found out that “Beadwork” Magazine was going to have a short piece about my “Pink Ribbon Turtles” in their April/May 2008 issue. I was even more excited when I received an email from Gretchen Coats, fellow beader and turtle lover. She had already read the piece and had some great ideas on how we could do even more for the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Research. We emailed back and forth a couple of times and then finally just talked on the phone (so much easier). I told her I liked her ideas (and in fact we will be putting one of those ideas into affect soon), but had also seen an idea that really intrigued me...and “Pink Ribbon Turtle 4Q” Project got started.” (For those of you who are familiar with Bead and Button Magazine...do you recall the article about “Quirky Cat Finds a Home”? Four different ladies each made a quadrant of the cat and it is an
amazing piece...really eye-catching). 4Q = 4 Quadrants.
So first we’d like to thank the ladies that did that amazing cat! You are our inspiration. We are going to do a “Pink Ribbon Turtle” in 4 Quadrants. We’re really jazzed.
NOW we’d like to invite and challenge ALL beaders to find a group of friends...or strangers that will become friends...and make one yourself. The
BIGGEST RULE is...THE BACK OF THE TURTLE MUST BE PINK...I will probably
repeat that more than once.
If you do...we ask that you PLEASE keep in touch with us so that we can keep track of all of the “Pink Ribbon Turtle 4Q” Turtles out there...we’d love to have an online gallery of them...and we also have an idea for a great book!
