Friday of last week, I received a call from a woman, inquiring how she could claim her prize from the Nescafé promo. She had this strong ||{1}|| accent, which made it difficult for me to understand what she was talking about. Anyway, when I finally got what she meant, I politely told her that she dialled the wrong number. Then yesterday, I received four more calls from different callers, inquiring about the same thing! I was able to interview caller number 2, and this was what she narrated. She said that she saw her name on a major daily as one of the winners of the said promo and that winners were instructed to call a certain phone number to inquire how they could claim their prizes. The number was supposed to be the brand's consumer hotline. I also interviewed the 2 other callers after that. One common denominator: their Visayan accent. All three of them gave me three different names of major dailies, which I checked on to see if I could locate the erratic announcement so that it could be corrected immediately. Unfortunately, I didn't find it in any of the dailies they mentioned. So I thought, could they have been scammed? I hope not. Poor people. Then today, I received another call. This time, from a man but also with a Visayan accent. I told him that he dialled the wrong number and asked him where he got the phone number he dialled and he said, "from a local newspaper." He then hung up, as I was just about to ask if he could send me a copy of that announcement thru fax. I don't know how I could get myself a copy of that Visayan daily so I could call the attention of the party concerned. I really hope that it was just an erratum and not a scam. And I hope that I could do something to correct that error. Ok, I promise to search the directory tomorrow so I could contact Nescafé.
