We read in the Bible that Jesus had four brothers and at least two sisters. The boys are named in the Gospels. So Mary had at least 6 biological children after Jesus, and no, I don't entertain the copout that they were Joseph's, and that Mary was a foster mother.
Let's say that at least four of Mary's other children had kids of their own, say an average of two each, so Mary was biological grandmother to 8 grandchildren. Actually they more likely had ten each than two each, but infant mortality was high, balancing out the very high birth rate.
Of the 8 grandchildren, let's say 4 lived long enough to have kids of their own and averaged four each, so there were like 16 great grandchildren descended from Mary. And keep doubling the descendants every 25 years. Where would that leave us?
It's been 2,000 years. How many generations have passed in that time? 2000 divided by 25 is ... um.... hold on, there's a calculator on this computer. Okay 80. So the number of descendants of Mary, mother of Jesus, is something like 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 .... 80 times. What does that come to? Hold on, let me see if this calculator does exponents.
Well it doesn't but anyway the number is a few trillion or something. So doesn't it stand to reason that anyone with a lot of Jewish ancestors would be a direct descendant of Jesus's mother Mary on several different DNA lines? I'm probably a direct descendant of Mary and Joseph along 50 different paths. I don't mean cousins, I mean direct line relatives. I bet my great great great .. 80 times great grandma is Mary the mother of Jesus along 50 different DNA lines.
Is that why the Mormons are into this stuff?
