My daughter lost a tooth yesterday at school. She was real excited about it and told me all the details of how it  happened.

The tooth has been loose for awhile and it's been hurting her. She didn't want to brush her teeth because it would bleed. So I guess she finally had enough of it during reading class.

She said she grabbed onto it and tried to pull it out. But it was bleeding everywhere. The teacher tried to clean her up and tell her to leave it alone.

But she couldn't stop. So she took her big pencil eraser and bit into it. And the tooth got stuck in there and she yanked it out.

She's very resourceful. That was a good idea. And she put the tooth in a plastic baggie and was showing it off to anyone who would look at it.

Then she told me that she wanted to keep the tooth. It was cool. But we still do the tooth fairy thing here. So she was worried she wouldn't get her money if she kept the tooth. It was a big concern of hers.

So this is what the tooth fairy found last night on her pillow.

Photobucket
Isn't this funny? First of all she spelled it tooth 'rairy'. That cracked me up. And where the hell is the tooth fairy going to find a two dollar bill huh?

This was the cutest thing ever. This is why I love being a dad. But she had to settle for two regular dollars instead. She didn't seem to mind too much. As long as she got to keep her tooth.

Your daughter's note is very cute.

My youngest has a wobbly tooth and has told me that the going rate in her class is £5 per tooth. I have told her that the tooth fairy that visits this house gives 50p if the tooth has a filling and £1 if it doesn't. She wasn't too pleased by that.
  • destinydiva said on Mar 14, 2008....
alyss, I'm gonna remember that one for next time, my 12year old tried the 'going rate is £5 ' on me too :-)

Can you arrange a spur-of-the-moment cross-country trip to Monticello?  Some of the change is given in $2 bills, or at least it was back in 2001.  :D

My girls have lost teeth at school.  In fact, my second-grader literally lost a tooth at school last year.  It fell out of her mouth onto the floor and she never found it.

That is totally cute. A two dollar bill? Where'd she come up with that?! Did you leave her fairy dust though? That seemed important since she had to mention it. We never got two dollars for teeth either. We used to get fifty cents for regular teeth and a $1 for molars. This girl at work, she said her daughter asked for $50 for a tooth! That's insane. But apparently someone at her kid's school got that much, and now she wanted $50 bucks too. Dream on!

mrbox- What a neat story. I went through the tooth fairy with three kids. They never asked the fairy for the tooth, though - I guess she wants to show it around for a few more days.

By the way, I know a short time ago you could get two dollar bills at the bank. Before the next tooth, perhaps you can get one - unless the price goes up. Better get two.

Aww, that is so cute! :) I'm glad the tooth fairy still comes to your house. I think it'll be sad when those days are gone, you know? ('Course, they haven't started here yet - maybe I'll be glad when I have to stop forking out money for teeth I might not even take! ;-))

    I love those moments. :-D

It's a matter of a contract. The tooth fairy needs those teeth.
  • Mr.Stupid said on Mar 14, 2008....
I think that I used to get a quarter for a tooth. I guess with inflation that would be about right.
I remember in the 1st grade, I was chewing on my stocking hat and pulling it through my teeth. I guess one of them was loose, because it yanked it out of my mouth. I never found it. I was so disappointed that I wouldn't get paid for that one.
  • Mr_Box said on Mar 14, 2008....
Miss Mimi.....prices have gone up a bit haven't they? But I suppose these days, you can't buy much with a quarter huh?

Miss Diva.....thanks. Kids are so much fun. My daughter didn't lose her first tooth until she was 6. She was a late bloomer. And this tooth was holding on tight because the permanant tooth was coming in behind it. So it wasn't pushing it out.

    Me-My.....thank you :-D (there's my smile!)

Alyss....5 pounds for a tooth? I'm not sure the equivilent to US dollars, but that's steep! I thought two bucks was a lot.

Eilan.....they give out 2 dollar bills near you? I better make the trip then. It sucks if they lose the tooth and can't find it. Those baby teeth are small.

Kyle.....$50 for a tooth? I feel sorry for your friend. This tooth fairy can't afford that. And yes we did have fairy dust. It was Mel's idea. The tooth fairy always leaves sparkly dust behind to prove she was there.

Beyond.....she never asked to keep her teeth before either. But she thought it was too cool to give up. I will have to see if the bank has two dollar bills. I wouldn't mind having some just because they're interesting.

Infernally.....I'm glad she's still believing in the tooth fairy too. I was thinking she was getting too old for that and was just playing along for our sake. But she was really concerned about the whole thing. She wanted to make sure that tooth didn't disappear! So obviously she still believes it. It's cute.

Expendable.....I suppose that she did mess with the contract a little. The tooth fairy basically got nothing in return for the money except a funny note. Contracts are made to be negotiated sometimes.

Mr. Stupid.....these days you can't even buy a gumball machine toy for a quarter. It's sad isn't it? In fact, I'm not even sure what you can buy for $2 either. Not much!

  • nursecutie said on Mar 14, 2008....

That is so cute! She is definitely very specific about her tooth fairy demands......LOL You really put fairy dust in her room?? I love that idea!! I am going to steal that idea for someday when I have to play the tooth fairy.....

we have $2 coin in our money and that the going rate for the tooth fairy, fairy dust is a nice touch box . times like these with your child are so presious to you dont you think.

It reminded me of when I was a little girl growing up.  I am very close to my Dad.  I have so many wonderful memories.

    dude, that's utterly adorable. :>

um...how does your daughter know about two dollar bills?

the price of a tooth has gone way up since I was a kid!!  I was lucky to get a nickel!!  That note was too cute!
  • gingersoul said on Mar 15, 2008....

Boxy......oh, i am so nostalgic of those days......the Tooth Fairy, the cute letters, the one dollar bill underneath the pillow (geez, its alreay up to two?). I remember i left some sprinkles (the kind for decorating the cakes) on the floor...

Now my daughter is officially in the horrible teens and we are already dealing with major crisis...Tooth Fairy? Yeah, dream on....

There is a Haircut Fairy somewhere? You know, that fairy that arrives at nigth and give teens the perfect cool haircut ever?

If so, please, send her here. I will be impatiently waiting.

Your girl is just too sweet...:-)

  • Mr_Box said on Mar 15, 2008....
ydmort.....I think your comment disappeared. Did you want to try again?

Eilan.....I need a map I guess. I've never heard of Monticello.

Mrs. Natty.....yes we do the fairy dust thing. Harper was beside herself with excitement the first time she discovered the sparkly dust on her pillow. To her, it was solid evidence that the tooth fairy was real!

bluegum.....I'm just trying to enjoy all of this now before she gets too old for it. They grow up way too fast.

jenniredd....I'm glad you have such good memories of your father. I hope my daughter will too.

Ed....I really don't know how she knows about $2 bills. I'm guessing one of her classmates must have shown her one. Either that or it was just a random request. I have a $1 million dollar bill on our refrigerator and she thinks that's real! I wish.

quietone.....prices have gone up. But imagine how disappointed a child would be these days to get a nickel? You can't buy anything with that anymore sadly.

Gingery.....I'm not looking forward to the teen years at all. I'm just going to pretend they're not on the horizon at all. I'm scared.
  • mobil said on Mar 15, 2008....
Kids you gotta love em. I used to get to pull those little teeth, but the grandkids aren't as obliging as my kids were. Cute story Box and yeah the prices has gone through the roof. Two bits used to be the norm haha.
  • Eilan said on Mar 15, 2008....
Monticello was Thomas Jefferson's home.  $2 are given as change because he's on them.
  • Mr_Box said on Mar 15, 2008....
mobil.....thanks. I asked my daughter if she wanted me to pull the tooth and she said no. She wanted to do it all by herself. She's very independent.

Eilan.....apparently I need to crack a book once in awhile. This is why I suck at helping my daughter with homework. She probably knows more than I do!
  • Alyss said on Mar 15, 2008....
Yeah, I thought that £5 ($10 approx) was far too much too!
