I want to do some posts about the four main blood types O, A, B and AB specifically what you should and shouldn't be eating according to the book "Eat Right for Your Type".

Would anyone be interested in knowing about this or not, be honest.  I am feeling inspired, but I dont want to waste my time.

You needn't concern about being + or - as this does not affect the dietery recommendations for each bloodtype.

Just tell me.

    My blood type is A+.
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....
Thanks, Dee, so I take it you'd be interested to know more about the correct "diet" (lifestyle eating) for your blood type?
  • mobil said on Mar 14, 2008....
A+ here too polar, not so interested in diet, but wanted you to know in case of medical emergency.
  • crybabylu said on Mar 14, 2008....
mobil--I almost said the same exact thing!  But, I am interested in diet.
  • GracefullyGrowing said on Mar 14, 2008....
    I'm interested!  Mine is A+

I'm also an A, but I think I am an A-.  I had no idea there were specific foods beneficial to each blood type.
  • beyondtheveil said on Mar 14, 2008....
polar- I don't listen to anyone about what I should or should not eat. But I would be interested in what it says out of curiosity.
  • destinydiva said on Mar 14, 2008....
I have asolutely no idea what I am!  but I will find out and I would defo be interested in reading about what foods n stuff....the clock is ticking...september gonna be here before I know it...ahhhhhhhhh  :-) xx
  • uniquely-ironic said on Mar 14, 2008....
I got the book recently on Kru's recommendation.  I'm a B type blood, but I really don't think I could really live on the foods that are "optimal" for me.  It is an interesting theory though.
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....
Gee, it seems America is full of A's - you guys did really well in your blood type exams! LOL!

Mobil, thanks for letting me know, I have noted that you're an A - I could give you some blood, but you would not be able to donate blood for me.  My blood type is "O", us O's can donate blood to all 4 major blood groups, but can only receive blood from "O" donors.  Interesting, hey?

Dee, I'm glad to know you are interested.  I will be sure to start with A since the majority who have commented fall into that blood group :-)

GG, great news!  Thanks for responding.  As I said to Dee above I will start with the A's :-)

Mimikins, yes the author of the book, Dr d'Adamo, has made some interesting finds and even help cure people of some serious diseases just by correcting what they eat based upon their blood group.

Beyond, that's cool. . .stay tuned my friend :-)

Destiny, that's great. . .you can find out what blood type you are by going back over your hospital files from when you had your kids, it will be noted in there.

U-I, oh wonderful, I'm glad you've also got the book.  I will have to check out the B blood group and see what you should avoid.  Remember that there are foods that actual act as medicine for your body, then food which is nutrition i.e. just food and then food to be avoided.  Was there much on the avoid list that you really like to eat?
  • dailyachesandpains said on Mar 14, 2008....
Sadly, I forget what my blood type is.
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....
Oh, not to worry Daily.  You should be able to find out from your birthing records if you are interested :-)
  • Mr.President said on Mar 14, 2008....
im and A+ i want to know what i should eat...i dont understand what you blood has to do with nutritional facts...
  • Alyss said on Mar 14, 2008....
I have no idea of my blood type but it sounds interesting polar.
  • pickersplock said on Mar 14, 2008....
I'm the universal blood type.  What is that anyway O+?
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....

Mr.President, yet another A!  According to the studies that Dr D'Adamo have done over many years, your blood type is extremely important in laying down what we should eat.  Stay tuned.  The A's facts will be posted soon.

Alyss, have you ever given blood?  Or had blood tests? If so your donor card will tell you what blood type you are or your Drs should have it on file.  Glad to hear you are interested :-)

Pickers, I assume you mean O if you say it is the universal blood type.  O blood types can donate to all the other major blood types.  I am also O+ (we're blood sisters :-))

  • Alyss said on Mar 14, 2008....
I have had loads of blood tests but have never been a donor and haven't ever been told my blood type.
  • vacantmind said on Mar 14, 2008....

I am O. I think its an interesting concept, I am curious as to what they recommend for each blood type and why.

Hmm.. I might just have to buy the book.

  • lfbno7 said on Mar 14, 2008....
i forgot what my type is, but at one point i thought it was the type that is supposed to be overly civilized and shouldn't eat a lot of meat, something like that. which one is that? i'm pretty sure i'm not an ab. that was my father. i'm pretty sure i'm not an o. i think i inherited a or b from my father, and that's what i am, one of those. my guess is A.
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....

Alyss, next time you go to the Drs just ask them if they have it on file, just for curiosity :-)

Vacant, I am O too.  I will be covering all the blood types, but since so many A's have responded I will start there.  But if you can get the book I can highly recommend it :-)

lfbno, by the sounds of it I think you are A too :-) So, are you eating right for your type or not?

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Mar 14, 2008....
I'd be interested in the AB (I'm +, if anyone's that curious :-p) section, though I must admit to some skepticism as far as blood type mattering in one's diet. ;-)

    ~Infernal
  • Lucytorial said on Mar 14, 2008....
I am an Orange + just like you polar
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....

Infernal, I will cover AB too.  The book is very comprehensive and gives a full history of blood types and how they developed.  As humans moved from hunters to settlers their immune and digestive systems changed and thus newer blood types developed.  O is the oldest (the meat eaters), then came A, then B and the most recent is AB.  Why not see if this book is available at your library, it really is quite interesting :-)

Lucy, aha another Orange - LOL!

  • Mr.Stupid said on Mar 14, 2008....
I don't remember which blood type I have. The blood mobile shows up a couple times a year, and if I know about it, then I will donate some.
I would like to know more about the diet thing though. I have not heard of it.
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....
Mr Stupid, no problem, I would love to share some of the book with you.  Next time you donate, ask what your blood type is.  Thanks for popping by :-)

    Hi Trav!
  • evil_twin said on Mar 14, 2008....
I think I'm O+ because I donated blood once and they told me. But that was a really long time ago, so I'm not sure!

Hi Trav and Pickers, you two playing games again? :-))

Twinny, I am sure you remember correctly. . .Natalie may even know, having been your nurse and all! LOL!

  • dailyachesandpains said on Mar 14, 2008....
Polar, I had no idea that I could find out that way!  Come to think of it, I don't even know what Little D's is.  You would think I would by now!  Then again, she has had SO many tests done, blood type was most likely far from my brain sponge.  Remembering her diagnosis/condition/defect name was hard enough as it was...medical terminology.

Add another O  to the list. I'm a regular blood donor and have a great T-shirt collection.  Can't wait to read about the O's, sounds very interesting.

    Another A+ here.

I've donated a couple of gallons of blood, and I used to do the plateletpheresis thing, but I don't anymore. I don't think that I can donate blood anymore after the time that I've spent overseas.

There are TWO universal blood types. The Universal Donor is O- The Universal Recipient is AB+ A and B are both superficial proteins (they are detectable on the surface) of Red Blood cells, the cells responsible for carrying oxygen to your body. The + refers to a protein first found in the blood of Rhesus monkeys. You'll sometimes see it called Rh+ or Rh-. If you are AB+, you have all three proteins. ANY blood you get will not offer any significant proteins your body doesn't already have. When the body detects proteins it doesn't make itself, it tries to get rid of it with the immune system. If you are O-, you have none of the three proteins and almost anybody's blood would cause your immune system to react to disastrous effect. The three proteins, A, B, and Rhesus are made of the same amino acids as all the other proteins in our body and we get them all in abundant amounts form the food we eat. Blood cell protein is not going to be seriously affected by any diet changes and I'm EXCEPTIONALLY skeptical that they are an important indicator of a dietary need. This book sounds like 100% horse hockey and most folks would do better following the simple advice they hear periodically. Fruits vegetables, cut out on the sweets. It's not that simple, but at least it's fairly accurate. *DM
