I got a quick ghost update for those of you who are following the story of our haunted house. This was something I don't think I've mentioned yet. Mostly because I'm really not sure if it's a ghost thing or something much more logical. But I'm just gonna share it anyway.

Several months ago we started to occasionally hear music playing in the house. It was always around 10pm and it was always the same song. But don't ask me what song it is because I have no idea. It's annoying though. It's instrumental and it has this incessant drum beat sound to it. It's not an old fashioned sounding music. It's almost like a dance electronica sound.

Anyway, I assumed it was the neighbors at first. The walls are thin. But the second time it happened, it was driving me out of my mind. I was pissed because it seemed so loud. So I got up and went into the hallway and I couldn't hear it anymore. That was odd. If it was coming from next door, I should be able to hear it in the hallway because that's where we share a wall. The bedroom is set off to the side and doesn't share a wall.

So I assumed it was coming from outside. So I went outside and I didn't hear it. So I went back into the bedroom, and there it was. Still as annoying as ever. Nat and I pressed our ears up against all the walls in the room and we did not hear anything coming through them. It was coming from the middle of our bedroom. And we didn't have the TV on or any radios. We walked through the house and listened through the walls and had silence. But if you went back into our room, you'd hear it!

This went on every night for about a week, then it stopped. But then last night it happened again. We were laying there in bed talking, and when 10pm arrived, the music started. The same annoying song. Over and over. We still can't figure out where it's coming from. I mean, I suppose it could still somehow be the neighbors music, even if we can't seem to hear it anywhere except our room. It just doesn't make sense.

But all I have to say is that if this is ghost music, the person who died must have liked going to raves in their spare time. Because this music sucks. It's not calm inducing and you can't sleep when it's playing. It makes you want to slam your head against the wall just to make it stop.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one? Are we totally crazy? Hearing things? Has anyone else ever heard music they can't pinpoint the source of? I think I need to buy some earplugs in the meantime....

That is so weird and funny at the same time, Twinny!

My take on it is that there is a mobile phone that was left by someone in the roof directly above your bedroom.  Someone is trying to reach someone at 10pm, but the phone just rings (with that irritating ringtone) coz its been left in your loft.  Perhaps by one of the builders, electricians or someone like that.  Just a theory. . .perhaps its worth checking it out :-)

If it is ghost music it might be worth a try to talk to him and ask him to wait until you guys are at work to play his music.  Though I think polar might be onto something with her idea of looking into the attic.
  • crybabylu said on Mar 14, 2008....
I would put on some music that I actually do like and let it lull me to sleep.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Mar 14, 2008....
This might sound silly, but I would tell the ghost out loud that his music SUCKS and ask him to choose another song!  Or, tell him that you just want to go to sleep and to play his music at a different hour, and that you do enjoy him being there, but to mind his manners after 8PM!

I'd LOVE to hear what happens if you talk out loud to it.

I chuckled too reading this.  A couple of nights ago my phone lit up again.  I was saying "I know I'm crazy, I know I am!"

polar--You know, that thought actually did occur to me. But the only reason why I don't think it's a phone is because the music plays over and over, non-stop for about 30 minutes before it goes away. And a phone ringing wouldn't last that long. But who knows what I might find in the attic crawlspace if I ventured up there? My best bet is a bunch of spiders, and we all know how I feel about those :-P

uniquely--I wonder if the ghost music does play when we're not there? I bet it annoys the cats....

crybaby--I'm kind of weird about sleeping. It has to be silent or I'm awake forever.

daily--I should tell him that his music sucks! If I have to listen to it, it should at least be pleasant. We'll see if that helps. And your ghost calls are too weird too. It's cool though!
  • polarheart said on Mar 14, 2008....
Twinny, of course I forgot how you love spiders :-))  Suggestion: Keep a small step ladder at hand. Next time you hear the music step up and try to hear if its coming from the ceiling.  I am very interest to know what you find. I, of course, dont believe in ghost :-)

That's kind of interesting. I have no logical explanation either. Except maybe this.

Don't you guys have one of those sound machines in your room? The kind that plays waves crashing and stuff?

Is it possible that the sound machine is picking up a radio frequency? It wouldn't really explain why it's the same song at the same time. But maybe it's a possibility?

Sometimes if people have wireless audio in their house you can pick up their frequencies on the weirdest things. I've heard someone's police scanner on my telephone before.

But other than that, I have no idea. It sounds annoying though.

Did someone close to you die not long ago? Someone who would play that kind of music? Do you know anything about prior residents of the house? If it is caused by a ghost, the ghost is playing with you.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Mar 14, 2008....
That's weird (or should I say fairly normal for your house?)...I don't think it would hurt to maybe address the ghost, see if he might be amenable to not playing that song. At least it's not something with words that get stuck in your head!

polar--I'll let you know if I ever figure it out!

Mr. Box--That is an interesting thought! We do have the sound machine. But I'm pretty sure this isn't coming from that. It sounds like it's coming from across the room. But I am going to pay more attention the next time we hear it. You might be onto something. But it does seem weird that it's always the same song at the same time.....I'll look into it.

lfbno--My grandparents died a few years ago. And my friend from work died at Christmas. But I don't think any of them would listen to this music. And this actually started before my friend died, so I don't think it'd be her.

Infernal--If it happens again tonight, I'll ask for the music to stop and see what happens!

Okay buddy!  True test with the phone again.  Mr. Daily isn't home.  That's when my Grandmother would ALWAYS "call" me.  Let's see what happens.  Watch, now that I said it, nothing will happen...always the way!

Well I'd get a cd player in the room and say out loud..

"Your music sucks man I'd prefer to hear this" Then turn your favourite music on loud enough to not hear their music....

See what happens.. man you have a kookie life Et... wacko man
  • CreativeWoman said on Mar 14, 2008....
That really is kind of weird.  Have you ever thought about asking a psychic to walk through your home just to hear what they might say?

Maybe its worth telling the ghost that it is your bedroom now and it needs to take its music to another room so you can sleep.

lol...I have no idea what that could be...but that is just so strange!

    alls:)

daily--You'll have to let me know if anything happened!

Lucy--I do have a kooky life. It suits me though. I'd probably be bored if normal things happened!

CW--It would be interesting to have some sort of medium come to the house and see if they can talk to anyone. It might be cool! The next time we hear the music, I'll see what happens if we tell them to turn it off.

    alls--I know, it was strange!

Can you get one of those old things, oh what are they called...OH!  Tape recorders?  See if there's hidden voices when you play it back!

I just watched Ghost Whisperer...don't mind me, lol!

I think that Jack's idea is interesting, but I'm not sure if it's right or not. I think we would have realized it was coming through the wave machine speakers wouldn't we? It sounded like it was coming from nowhere. It was so weird! But it is not the best music to listen to if you are trying to sleep......LOL

Maybe it'll happen again tonight and we can investigate more!

kyle, are there any vents running into the rooms where you hear the music? is it possible the music is actually coming from someone else's space and is being piped through that vent or something? maybe an air conditioning duct, something like that?

and you gotta admit, the wacky electronica's probably not as creepy as toccata and fugue, right? :>

Hi Kyle  - I agree with whomever said to chat with your Ghosts.  They seem friendly enough.  When the music starts, I would sit down in the middle of the room, light a candle (spirits are drawn to the light) and just politely ask if they wouldn't mind playing something else, or if they would just keep it to a more reasonable time. I agree - techno/electronica is not condusive to sleep.

Either that, or you and Nat pop some pills and rave on!! (just kidding)

  • quietone said on Mar 15, 2008....
I would do the same as mentioned by some... ask your ghost to stop with the music already.  Have you tried recording this music?  I think that would be cool too.  even though its not your kind of music, it would be cool to get this noise recorded!
  • evil_twin said on Mar 15, 2008....
daily--We've been wanting to get a tape recorder for awhile actually but we just haven't done it. We need to!

cutie--I don't think it was coming from the sound machine either. But it was something I never thought of. Too bad it didn't happen again last night so we could make sure!

silver--We actually don't have any vents in the house at all. There is no central heat and air, only a wall heater and a box air conditioner in the living room. And it's a duplex, so we only share one wall with them, otherwise it's just like a regular house. But I guess the music could be worse! This is grating on the nerves, but it's cheerful sounding.

FutureGoddess--It didn't happen again last night, but the next time it does, we'll try asking them to quiet it down!

quietone--We need to buy a tape recorder. It's been on our agenda for awhile but we just haven't done it yet.
