The US government thinks there are close to 1 million potential terrorists in the country.  That's almost how many people are on the watch lists.  Get real.  If there were that many terrorists in the country we would already be in serious trouble.

The watch list count keeps growing at a rate of 20,000 names per month.  See the current estimated count here.

well...don't they call these people "sleepers," don't they act like normal law abiding citizens......until they are told to do this, that or the other! Maybe one morning you might wake up to find a million strong army on the street! complacency is these peoples most usefull ally!!
  • SeanRenaud said on Mar 14, 2008....
Actually those numbers sound really really conservative to me.  I'm amazed the number isn't closer to 2 million.

1 million terrorists in the country doesn't mean trouble, any more than several million gangsters has our country underseige.  The fact is there is more than one terrorist group in the world and hell not all of them are even anti-American I would guess some just operate here.  Even if they did they aren't all united.

silver, did you notice the six year olds on the no-fly list?  Probably a good idea but for the wrong reasons....

My problem with ACLU, outside of the traderous america-hating garbage they spew, but the way they diminish an important subject.  How many of these people are possible threats?  Even if a forth of them are capable of pulling off an attack I say we have a bad problem.

When are you going to do a post on immigration, one of the things I disagree with President Bush on.  Probably marijuana and the death penalty are others we might agree on.  Outside of that there is no hope for you :>

  • kelly said on Mar 19, 2008....
smb, you're way off target on the ACLU.  Think of the army as protecting us from the outside threats and think of the ACLU as protecting us from the inside threats.  I'm more afraid when the president takes away habeas corpus than I am by these over hyped supposed terrorist threats.
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 20, 2008....

  • stopmediabias said on Mar 22, 2008....

Kelly-The ACLU in concept is a good Idea.  Even the name makes a person feel all warm and fuzzy.  Unfortunetly they have been highjacked by a bunch of crazy degenerates.  If they gave a shit about America they would encourage our President to listen to foreign terrorists.

Catch22-welcome, you can join the rest of pinheads like Sheltercrow and the some of the other infants here on soulcast.

Silver-I agree with legalizing pot, I am pro-death penalty but only certain circumstances.  So there you go.

  • kelly said on Mar 22, 2008....
smb, you have completely missed the point of the ACLU.  Go to the back of the class.
  • stopmediabias said on Mar 22, 2008....
Now I overlooked this that you said before, but to be fair I have to bring it up.
    What you said:
"I'm more afraid when the president takes away habeas corpus than I am by these over hyped supposed terrorist threats. "

Are you kidding me?  Do you actually think our President wants to or has in the past taken away habeas corpus and this poses a greater threat to us than terrorism?

I wish for yourself you would read an un-biased book about what type of person our President is because you are so wrong.

  • kelly said on Mar 22, 2008....
Oct. 17, 2006.  Bush signs into law suspension of habeas corpus for those he deems to be "enemy combatants."  The kicker is that an enemy combatant is anybody George says is an enemy combatant.  There are no pre-defined rules for what makes an enemy combatant.  Habeas corpus is in fact in suspension.  You're probably OK with that.  I am not.

The biggest threats almost always come from the inside.  In this case it is a fear-mongering president.
  • kelly said on Mar 23, 2008....
Additionally, I fear people like you as much as I fear other terrorists.  You want to throw out our whole system of rule by law and that scares the hell out of me.  You want to be free to torture people whom you only suspect of being a terrorist and that sickens me.
  • stopmediabias said on Mar 23, 2008....
Kelly-Obviously to try to debate the Habeas Corpus issue with you is probably a waste time mainly because it has nothing to do with HC, it has everything to do with more Bush-Bashing (which has never worked for you guys.)

So lets look at this a different way.  Your language and whole way of life revolves around pointing out the supposed indiscretions of our President while at the same time painting him as an evil dictator, or an idiot, or an overzealous person obsessed with dominating the world with terrible conservativism like Adolf Hitler.

We are talking about the ACLU.  There is the New York Slimes, Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, Kanye West, etc.. etc..the list is endless of people who outright lie on a daily basis.  What do you hear from President Bush about these people?  Does he ever speak out against them?  Does he have them taken out and shot?  Does he brand them as traders?  Does he ever say one single solitary thing when he could easily, very easily tear them to sheds with their own words and actions?

No, nothing, he never says a word.  This is what I'm seeing on my side.  If President Bush was the type of person you say he is don't you think these people would be in a lot of trouble?

"You want to throw out our whole system of rule by law and that scares the hell out of me."

You guys make these blanket statements.  President Bush yanks and American who wants to blow up city in the name of the enemy we are fighting, off the street, designates him an enemy combatant and suddenly our whole system of law is in danger.  At the same time, if we followed you line of thinking, someone like Jose Padilla would be free either over here or over there planning attacks.  Where is Jose Padilla now?  But yet when something like the Fairness Doctrine, Affirmative action, Laws telling what we can and can eat, Laws restricting what we drive, smoke, protect ourselves with, etc.. and not a word.  I'm not surprised.
  • BlueHotRage said on Mar 25, 2008....

Actually, MediaBias, habeas corpus is vitally important.  Without it, even average citizens--who were born and raised in this country--can be labeled "enemy combatants" for nearly any reason DHS sees fit, and be held in prison (abroad) indefinitely, without due process.  And if I have to keep repeating this fact (a la Faux News) until it sinks into your thick skull, so be it.

And if our "language and way of life" consists solely of ribbing authority figures, yours appears to consist of talking smack about people, groups and entertainers you have not and never will meet in your lifetime--who never did anything to you personally--accusing them of "lying" because that's what the authority figures' mouthpieces are telling you.  And perhaps because you have nothing better to do, which I can sort of understand... but you also consistently call them variations of "traders," which is spelled wrong.

Get a dictionary.  Or, better yet, use Word to correct your spelling for you.

    Cripes!

Also, in response to what you wrote earlier:  "Catch22-welcome, you can join the rest of pinheads like Sheltercrow and the some of the other infants here on soulcast."

At least we're not wusses who can't watch more than 15 minutes of Brokeback Mountain--in our own homes--without feeling like we'll be smote for watching it and then FedExed straight to hell.

  • stopmediabias said on Mar 25, 2008....
BHR-Any American president has the authority if he believes national security is compromised to lock anyone up at any time.  Our President has done this to two Americans.  If our country and our citizens are in danger generally on a grand scale the president's authority surpercedes habeas corpus.  Look at Clinton's search of the spy Aldrich Ames's house without a warrant.

"And if our "language and way of life" consists solely of ribbing authority figures, yours appears to consist of talking smack about people, groups and entertainers you have not and never will meet in your lifetime--who never did anything to you personally--accusing them of "lying" because that's what the authority figures' mouthpieces are telling you"

Ribbing authority figures?  And I need a dictionary.
And if you are talking about the "entertainers" above they personally insulted me by running my country through the shit.  As long as they do that then I am going to talk smack about them.

"And perhaps because you have nothing better to do, which I can sort of understand... but you also consistently call them variations of "traders," which is spelled wrong."

Excuse me for spelling traitors wrong, thank you for correcting me, you have proved you are major asshole.

"The only terrorist we need to worry about is the money SLUT GEORGE BUSH!"

This is what catch22 said.  What is this?  Is this what we have become now?

"At least we're not wusses who can't watch more than 15 minutes of Brokeback Mountain--in our own homes--without feeling like we'll be smote for watching it and then FedExed straight to hell."

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is why you keep trying to irritate me you are gay.  Listen, Suzy....I couldn't watch anymore than 15 minutes of Brokencrack Mountain not because of the gayness but because of how ridiculous is was.  Gay people don't act that way.  If you are pissed at me because of this stupid stereotype that all conservatives hate gay people (which is untrue) then that is your problem go pick a fight with someone who will help you.
