Guys, as bad as this is (and it is bad) keep in mind that Merlin, if I recall correctly, is from South Africa. I will confess my ignorance to South African culture in particular (I believe it's fairly Westernized as African cultures go) but I know that in many countries in Africa this kind of relationship is common, accepted, or even expected.
Not that I'm condoning it. This does not bode well for her, not at all, and given what (little) I know, I am worried. Even if it may be none of my business.

Merlin is a lovely girl whom it was a pleasure to meet. I am a woman from South Africa originally and it was nice to meet another South African.It is sad to see that the typical male domination is still alive and well in certain South African cultures.Merlin, if you get a chance to read this I want to say I am thinking of you and I hope and pray that the rest of your pregnancy goes really well.
