collection 012

I have done a fair amount of traveling in the U.S. and a few places outside of the states. Some years ago I decided to start collecting magnets from each place I visit.

I now have quite a collection of memories that I can look at every time I walk by my fridge.  My grandkids love to play with them and move them all around on me too.  The oldest one now is interested in looking at the ones from the states as it has the capitols also starred on them.  These little magnets are like my next to most valuable treasures. I can't lie though, there are a couple of states on there that I have not been to yet.  I chose magnets as they are small and take up no room in my luggage.

Do you collect anything when you travel like spoons or thimbles, magnets?  Just curious.

Oh, and btw, thats me in the middle of all those magnets! hahaha..

i used to collect a book of matches from every restaurant i went to......that's as close as i got to collecting things from my travels....

i miss my fridge magnets!  i went and got a stainless steel fridge, and those darn things don't stick on there anymore!

I don't really collect anything like that, but my mom does. She has this big wooden display board shaped like the U.S. and it's filled with spoons from every place she's been. And some places she hasn't been, but that other people have been, and have gotten her a spoon. It's probably about halfway filled up, but she still has more sights to see before her collection is finished!

The magnets are cool though. I think I like that better than spoons, myself.

secret ~ I knew several people that collected matchbooks.  Kind of obsolete now with all the non smoking.  I never thought that a magnet wouldn't stick to that kind of fridge! bummer.

i don't do that, although the mrs and i try to buy something when we travel as a memento. she's sorta been buying christmas ornaments like that, although that's kinda trailed off the past few years.

OTOH, my MIL collects spoons, and in fact a christmas present we bought for her 2 years ago was a new display cabinet for her spoons. :>

I used to collect keychains from places, but they are all scattered/lost mostly.  At one time I had so many on one set that I looked like a workman in a large building--jingling along with a big weight on my car keys....  Anyway--may you collect many more magnets in your life!

wombie ~ thanks I plan on it as we speak/write!  What was the name of that show with the janitor or manager I guess of thie apt building with all those keys.. he had a crush on this woman who had teen kid.  That is what you remined me of with all the keychains.  my daughter likes keychains too.
