I'm so tired of reading smears that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

This offends me on two levels. First off, it's an outright lie and I despise dishonesty in politics. That comes from maturing during the Nixon administration. Second, we are a nation of immigrants and have, over time, absorbed people from all continents into our every-evolving society. To suggest that someone might not be appropriately elected President because he might share a faith that is different from one's own is simply un-American.

To anyone who disagrees with me or who still believes the lies, I offer this rebuttal.

not only that, LJ, but it's also a painfully-obvious attempt to manipulate some measure of racism or bias against arabs and muslims.

the obvious contempt for the intelligence of the american voting populace that this meme exhibits really angers me, and one thing in mccain's favor for me is his angry refusal to countenance such things.

Let's hope that McCain stays on that course. It's becoming clear that he will not be able to raise as much money for his candidacy as either Senator Obama or Clinton could raise. This could lead him in some odd directions. Further, I doubt if we've seen the last of the swiftboat type groups out there with a lot more money than brains or morals.

I think that it's a fair point that it shouldn't matter if Obama was a Muslim. Or Jewish. Or (fill in the blank).

Well, it should matter just like a lot of other things matter, but it shouldn't be a deciding factor.

That's as crappy as people comparing his first name to "Osama" or pointing out that his middle name is "Hussein" (a very common Arabic name, BTW).
  • Dreamknightx said on Mar 10, 2008....
Why wasn't Obama at the march yesterday with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson commemorating Civil Rights achievements?
  • lioneljay said on Mar 10, 2008....
    TS, agreed on all counts.

This post, btw, was done to participate in a googlebomb attempt to push the Obama campaign site to the top of the google search pages whenever anyone does a search on "Obama" and "Muslim." We want the official story to be the one that curious people see first. They should be rewarded with the truth if they have the initiative to look for it.

Some people just can't stand for the facts to get in the way of a good argument.  Or a bad one, apparently.
  • curmudgeon said on Mar 10, 2008....
Nope, Obama sure isn't a Muslim. In fact, he's been wearing his Christianity on his sleeve throughout this campaign. He's been quoting Jesus so often you'd think he was a televangelist.
  • Expendable said on Mar 11, 2008....
Suggesting he's Muslim is better that saying not to vote for him because he's black. That would be racist and might actually get him elected. But this you wouldn't feel so guilty about, not after 9/11 and Iraq.

Smear campaigns are meant to play to your fears and your prejudices.

You are correct. His inexperience and radically left-wing politics are enough
to scare anyone that loves America away from voting for him ... or Hillary.

So, we can safely say; He's at least part black, with some Muslim history and he has big inexperienced, brown ears?
  • lioneljay said on Mar 11, 2008....
I so love it when people who voted twice for the man with no brains and no experience claim that twelve years of legislative experience simply isn't enough for them to vote for someone. As for the radically left-wing politics, that's not only a gross exaggeration (note the dozens of diaries at DailyKos that bemoan the very middle-of-the-road policy positions that BO takes), it's also uninformed.

Obama himself has no history as a Muslim. Yes, his grandfather converted to Islam for a while and that's the origin of his middle name. But to say that he has "some Muslim history" is the same as to claim that every kid who ever attended a public school must not have any religion at all since they surely were fully indoctrinated into secularity by their school.

So, Mobil - do you claim the religion of your school?

  • mobil said on Mar 11, 2008....
Well you're just gonna love me Lionel. How do you explain BO's affiliation with Calypso Louie Farrakhan? Hey, I went to public school, we read a passage from the bible every morning.

So, to answer your question; Yes. You and your kind are trying to screw things up faster than I can fix Em Lj.

By your kind I mean those hardly distracted by reality.
  • Expendable said on Mar 11, 2008....
You know, having seen what the experienced leaders have done, it might not be such a bad idea to put someone who hasn't the same mindset into the job. Obama seems to like talking to actual experts on how things should be done instead of politicians - so maybe this is really a good thing?
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 11, 2008....
i'm awfully curious what supposedly far left policies obama supposedly espouses. i think that's just clinton camp misinformation.

When a leftie, such as yourself, thinks you are mainstream, middle of the road,
it is easy to understand why you would not recognize that Borax is a far
left-wing liberal. We could check his voting record, but he never showed up to
vote for anything. What is that all about? He probably did not care about any
of those votes because he has been programmed since childhood by Osama Bin
Ladin to become president and usher in Islamic rule in America. Hey, that is
no more stupid than thinking he is not a leftist liberal. Watch the news, listen
to the radio, get your head out of your ... the sand. If you want to vote in
a left wing socialist, at least be honest about it. Tell me why he is not a leftie.
His popularity comes from being young (he is a rock star) and being semi-black.
As I have told others, possibly God has a shock treatment in mind for America.
Why else would three bottom feeders like Obama, Clinton, and McCain have
floated to the top. No matter which one of these idiots win, we (America) are
    the losers.

  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
Mobil, Obama has said over and over again that he does not agree with Farakhan so where's the beef? Will you reject McCain's candidacy because he was endorsed by nutjobs who call for the destruction of Israel? I'm sorry, but to say that Obama and Farakhan are affiliated is simply false. Former KKK leader David Duke endorsed George Bush. Does that make Bush a KKK sympathizer?

So your public schooling obviously predated the ban on school prayer (as did mine). However, here's the larger point: did the few minutes of Bible reading in school persuade you to become a Christian or did it merely reinforce what you learned at home? Did any of your Jewish or non-Christian classmates change religion because of what they experienced in school? My guess is no - and that's exactly why it's foolish to presume that Obama was equally influenced by attending school in a country that was predominantly Muslim.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
Lj, to liken Obama's relationship with Farrakhan to David Duke's endorsement of President Bush would be like saying Duke and Bush had a relationship at all. Obama and Farrakhan have a relationship, or did have until Obama was force in a debate to renounce Farrakhan.

Obama's minister and mentor has been a supporter of Louie's for years and you don't have to read far to know the relationship between Obama and his minister, or Obama's past association with Farrakhan

Now, what about the racism going on in this Presidential race Lionel? Blacks in Mississippi voting for Obama 9 to 1? Where is the moral outrage about this sort of rampant racism Buddy? Aren't you appalled?

If this is your larger point about religious education and changing minds. Obama's Momma was an atheist and his Daddy was a Muslim.............what's this larger point Buddy?
  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
The only relationship between Obama and Farakhan is that the latter is endorsing the former in his election  bid. That's it. That's all there is. It's the same as any other uninvited political endorsement. Jenna Jameson came out with an endorsement of Hillary Clinton - does that mean that the two have a relationship?

How is it racist for people to vote for people like themselves? If it were, then it would be racist for you to vote for George W. Bush. Racism consists of acts that deny the rights of others because of their race - it's really hard for me to see where you find that it's denying a man's rights when you vote for him. But maybe you're just smarter than I am or something.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
Let me get this straight Lj, ( it's obvious to everyone I am the smarter one here Lj) anyway, from what you just stated.

"How is it racist for people to vote for people like themselves?"

I guess I have no understanding of racism, I thought it meant that we were blind to color? If white people only voted for white people and blacks for blacks and on and on.

Geeze Lj, that sounds like racism to me, but you're ok with it? You and your ilk make me laugh, people with minds so twisted like a pretzel in the liberal mindset that you can make racism sound like a GOOD thing hahahahaha.

  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
    According to dictionary.com:

    Racism:

1.a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. 2.a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. 3.hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
Please explain to me how it's racist for someone to vote for someone just like himself? Because if that's the case, then it's racist for you or me to vote for a white male.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
Didn't say that Lj, but in answer to your remark when 9 out of ten people vote for a person because of his color. That's racism, you can get out the dictionary, get out your crayons, you can even talk real fast.

But you ain't gonna piss in my face and tell me it's rainin.
  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
So if Obama is the Democrat and he runs against McCain, it will be racist for you to vote for McCain because he's white? Which means that it won't be racist for me to vote for Obama because he and I are not the same race. If that's the way you want it, that's fine with me.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
I know you aren't stupid Lj, so quit acting like it. It would be wrong or racist for either of us to vote for anyone simply because of their color !

What part of that aren't you grasping ??
  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
The part that still doesn't work is that voting for someone does that person no harm. In my world, racism is a bad thing and exists to do harm to others. How can it be a racist act if the outcome of your act benefits the person upon whom you are acting (in the case of someone voting for Obama because they share a racial identity)? How is it racist to help someone else?
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
It's not racist to help someone, it is racist to vote for color. It's racist to do anything just because of color.
  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
But if color (or gender) is truly important to someone and they really believe that the person they're voting for will stand up for them from a high place in government, I don't see how that can possibly be racist. It's no different in my mind than an evangelical voting for someone who holds similar views and thus voting against someone whose views are not a good match.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
Ok, this has turned to a Mexican standoff and I ain't no damn wetback haha.....joking really.

I give up, hands in the air.
  • lioneljay said on Mar 12, 2008....
I'll take that to mean "you're really right but I don't want to admit it" and leave it at that.
  • mobil said on Mar 12, 2008....
    fair enough haha
