Cherry Blossoms

It's spring!!

I snapped this pic while sitting in traffic the other day.  I always know it's time to think about warm weather and sunny days when I see the cherry trees blossom.

What is your spring cue?

Around here, we know it's spring when we get three days of 80+ degrees in a row...and I'm pretty sure that'll happen very soon. :(

Those trees are so pretty! :) I do love spring blossoms, if not the warm weather.

wow i'm jealous! Beautiful trees.  Here in the Ohio valley, we don't have any color yet. But the trees are budding and the Robins are flocking in. So, soon. At lest time springs ahead and it will remain daylight later at night. This is good.

Well you enjoy the sights of spring. Have a good one. Take care ~see ya

Yeah...  I'm eagerly awaiting my pin-cherry tree to blossom.  It's not spring until it does.  Plus I have a lilac bush by my house that turns the whole side of my neighbor's house yellow.

Not yet, though.  Maybe in a couple weeks or so...

    Nice pic.  :)

TIO - Since we live so close to the coast it's rare to get that warm a temp until mid summer.

MM&I - so the birds are one of your cues.  I like the bright green of the buds too.

Grape - I love lilacs.  They remind me of childhood.

I love those trees!  And we have a lilac bush also--a scraggly dead looking one right now, though.  I will look for the day I can peek outside and not see one flake of snow anywhere!  But, oh yea, a flock of geese flew back this way yesterday.  Hubby joked that they were bringing Spring back with them on their backs--along with the hummingbirds that had hitched a ride south last winter....

My Spring clue is when some asshole from California snaps a picture like this and sticks it in my face.

I know then that Spring is only about three fucking months away. ha.........ha

wombat - no snow and geese.  seems like a reliable way to tell if springs almost here.

mobil - LOL Well hell you old grouch!  Who makes you stay wherever the hell you are anyway?!  Jump in your car and move out here.

    some nice cherry blossoms, u-i!

me, i'm a dork--i wait for the equinox to tell me when it's spring, in all honesty. nothing says spring to me quite like standing a raw egg on its end, you know?

but the smell of damp grass wafting through the window on warm air always makes me think spring, as does the smell of freshly-mown grass.

Well now you tell me Uni, I don't have a car. I drive a dump truck, I could have made the move before gas prices went so high. But now ! It cost me $567 to fill my tank, on the four mph I get I just can't afford a warmer climate...........ha........ha
  • uniquely-ironic said on Mar 08, 2008....
SW - freshly mown grass is a wonderful trigger, for spring and good childhood memories.

mobil - Yeesh!  a dump truck you say.  Okay, hows about I just send taunting pictures from CA?

A couple of weeks ago my yard was filled with robins. There must have been more than a hundred of them. They told me spring was coming very soon. And it feels like it now.

What do I look for to know it's spring?

The ground!  I haven't seen it since December.  That, and puddles.  And slush.  Drip, drip, slosh, splash, squelch.  Ah, Canadian spring *eyeroll* (I love the winter, and I love mid-spring, but I could do without the "thaw" season!  Your socks are always wet and you never know if you should bring an umbrella or a parka.)

Okay, more seriously though, when I notice the days getting longer.  During the winter, DH goes to work in the dark and comes home in the dark.  When his alarm goes off and there's already sunlight in the window, I know we're almost through.  The confirmation is when I hear geese and songbirds outside :)

green grass and dandelions. and no damn winter coats and bulky clothes.  but worst of all my birthday is in april,my most  dreadful thing about spring.otherwise i like it.  so guess that's my 2 little cents.   see ya around???    :))
  • uniquely-ironic said on Mar 08, 2008....
Mr.S - I'd like to have seen that!  Sounds fun.

nytquill - Yeah, I miss seeing the sun during the winter too.  Nothing like the warmth of the sun to mean spring.

killingme - My birthday is in April too!!!  Yes, it's the start of spring.

Hi, here in Tiberias, spring comes suddenly when you need to find your almost summer clothes and can comfortably wear sandals. It sort of coughs itself up in a two week period, say around the equinox.

But it is not a real spring as in New York, when the little light green buds showed up on all the trees almost at once. I did love spring in New York, but I hated winter there.

Here we have flowering bushes all year round, winter too, and I love that. There were white roses in the park diagonally across the street from us, even in December and January, so flowers in bloom are not a sign of seasons. People who pay attention to the birds can tell by all the passing through and come to nesting birds. But all I ususally see on my window sills are two varieties of rock pigeons, who fascinate only my cat.

Trinov - I agree it's more dramatic when spring comes to a colder climate.  Warmer places tend to have milder changes of seasons.  I'm still not ready to don the flip flops, but in another month .......
