Everyone gets the “Blahs” Now and Then…But, sometimes the blahs turn into depression, and then un-dealt with, it can turn into full-blown depression, and that really brings about a lot of trouble and pain for the sufferer.
When I was in Alaska from 1991-1995, I got a big “bout“ of it. A lot of people living in Alaska have this problem from time to time, because of the lack of sun 6 months of the year. There is six months of full sunlight with only two to three hours of twilight, and then there is six months of twilight with only two or three hours of sunlight.
I suffered with it for awhile, and decided to attend a small support group to find ways to combat it.
Here were just some of the ways we tried that personally helped me. There is no particular order, but this is the order I put them in.
1) Find friends, such as I did in that support group.
2)Find something to occupy your mind with, be it reading, or art, (which is what I did) I even made necklaces. And finished a painting,
3) Keep a journal. This really helped me, because I could check it from day to day to see if I was making any progress…
4) Exercise, I did aerobics, and there was a gym when I went into town, where I could work out on different machines and lift weights, etc.
5) Take a break. Sometimes that helps more than anything else, is to just relax and do nothing for a day.
There are so many other ways that help, but I just wanted to mention a few to stimulate your thinking on this subject. If you have any ideas, or want to share any personal stories, I would be glad to hear them..... Thank you..
