I am at a point in my life now where I either need to get back into some kind of part time work, or do something from home. . .but what???

Have any of you got some good ideas as to what I can do from home that can bring in a decent amount of money?  I am not talking about hoaxes here, but honest cash.

Some of you know that I did debt collecting for some time, but I dont find that as appealing anymore.  I would far rather be involved in something creative.

I hope this blog is not going to draw spammers.

Thanks, Quiet!!  Just so you know that I have a sewing machine, but not an overlocker. . .but I dont want to make clothes, but rather decorative things. . .perhaps you can think of something I can sow up :-)))  I bet you would be able to make money with your quilts!!!! Why not?

I could probably make a lot of things, but I enjoy it so much more when I do it for fun and give them away.  Now if you could combine your faith and a craft together that would send out warm messages, wouldn't that be great!

Maybe a little research into home based jobs is in order.  It's not a creative field, but there is money to be made in medical transcription, word processing, and other computer friendly fields.  If you have skills with sewing or such you might try consigning your work at local shops and on the web.

I wish I could help you. The most interesting work I did was working for the National museum of Iceland. There I met people from many countries as well as mine and helped out. There were so many interesting things happening there and it all came down to being a human really. Do you think something where you are amongst people would interest you?

www.craigslist.org lists part time work and "gigs"  one shot jobs.
Some of the jobs that show up there are creative in nature and the variety can be appealing.

I've tutored, moved furniture, and applied for pet care positions (didn't get called back for that one.)

Of the MLM home businesses, I'd vouch for Pampered Chef and I've heard Mary Kay cosmetics is a good company to work with as they back back everything you don't sell and a lot of others tell you "tough luck".

Have you considered taking on another little to take care of?
    Day care?

Hi, there is such a field as virtual offices-- I've seen some on listed on line--you sign up if I remember with some go between agency or something similar.

We do something similar part time. We receive the email and tranlate what is necessary, take dictation over the phone, answer letters,( my husband also fixes the website but that is not the usual) etc. We also work in the same way for a translation agency and just send in the translations and not have to worry about collecting the money. We get paid once a month. The advantage is that you are home, you don't have to get to work, you can be as sloppy and comfortable as you like. etc

There are also jobs that are mainly phone work that also work the same way, you do telemarketing at home, probably for a commision, or you get a franchise and have a territory.

Well, this is kind of up my alley. I have done alot of research in this department and I have to tell you most of the jobs out on the net are scams. So, are the work from home jobs. Which is why I am back in school for Medical Transcription. This is a career that will allow you to work from home but only with the right training. There are two good schools out there that employers take seriously, meaning they are willing to hire you straight out of school for working at home. If you are interested in this type of work and want the school names then PM me. I would be happy to give it to you. I do know people that make $40 grand a year from home doing it. However, this isn't a job for everyone. There is alot of reading, researching, listening to dictation, and computer knowledge that goes into it.

To clarify on what Fallyn stated , your not required to have your certification before you start. They just want to know that you have the educational background. The certification just came recently and it probably will be mandated in the future. But, that is still several years away.

I like the idea of homemade foods for busy families. You could get a few families, and arrange to deliver as many days a week as you would like to.
Also if you are crafty you could make some things that easily branded and take them to non profits for them to buy for their volunteers. Lastly how about housecleaning for double income people who just can't be home all the time?

thats all I can think of right now. Oh wait, what about driving kids afterschool to their activity so the parents can stay at work?

I have been telecommuting for nearly 3 years. I can't mention the name of my company on this site (due to the fact I may end up blogging this shit up about my boss someday) however, I will tell you about a few other companies that hire "cyber agents" 1.800.FLOWERS hires at home agents, depending on your location. Cloud 10 also offers hourly paid employment. It is legit, it costs nothing! I know people who actually receive paychecks. If you are in UT, Jet Blue hires cyber agents as well. Dell also hires cyber customer service agents.

Believe it or not, telecommuting is growing. There are literally hundreds of companies that hire cybers. Just beware of the scams!

A good way to tell if it is a scam, is if they ask YOU for money. People shouldn't have to pay to be employed.

    Hope this helps!

    AJ!

    Polar,
One thing that I found to make extra money is to sell used books on Amazon.com.
I really stated doing this because my daughter belongs to a book club and they were just gathering dust so I decided to list them on Amazon.com.
There is no fee to join and once the book sell you receive am email to ship the book out in two days. They also collect the shipping fee, then the money is put directly in your bank account.
The fun part is going out looking for books from family, friends, yard sales , thrift shops or new if they are on sale at a good price.
I sell about 8-10 books a week, so i seem to be spending a lot of time at the post office lately. My granddaughter has gotten in on it, she sold her gameboy that she no longer play with for a very good price plus some of her games.
You have to be careful how you price stuff, the books that you think might be worth somthing might be selling for .10 by the big sellers, ignore that and put your price in.
I hope this helps, they have a list of things you can sell, so check it out
I was lucky enough to find a book called fatso, someone that has to do with sports.
It was .50 and sold for 20.00. I have a book that was given to me years ago as a gift, I no longer read it, it cost $50.00 an is now listed at over 200.00.
Good luck. You are crafty and there is a site called etsy that you can sell crafted items on.also, not sure about that name though.

polar, i'm afraid i don't have any suggestions, myself. you seem to have no small facility with writing--could you do some freelance writing? would any of your business contacts lend itself to that?
