Here's the story (with a little snip and clip):
First of all, everyone is okay. Her apartment was flooded by the
apartment above. Her landlord did manage to stop the flooding but not
before the flooding was so extensive that the ceilings were failing
down. Most of her children's belongings (most of the clothing was salvaged with much washing)
are destroyed as well as many other household things. As most of you
know, she is a single mother and lives several states away from most of
her family (but not all) so this next mini-disaster mainly falls on her
shoulders alone. She managed to get a few off work to deal with this, but she's all out of time off and cannot afford to be without the pay, anyway.
Added to this, LG was taking as much of the girls' clothing as possible to the laundry
mat to see if the big machines could remove the "water that smells like
butt" and see what could be salvaged
when the oldest got sick. She had a fever (104F) that did not going
down with the usual round of Tylenol so LG took her to the ER to get
checked out.
The landlord paid for the hotel for two days only. I have no idea right now if LG will recoup anything for her
damaged belongings or lost wages. Anyone out there a lawyer and interested in a pro bono case??!
:}
The kitties had to go to the shelter. However, they immediately found a
good home. Before LG could get them processed, an animal rescue owner
took them in her kitty carrier so they could live long and prosper
while frolicking away as barn cats. That's the life! *sigh*
The doggie (the shaking, rat-like,
snuggle bear, poochy-face of a dog with a Napoleon complex that LG
loves to pieces) is still part of the family. He's quite put out with
all this excitement, but I'm sure in the days to come he will be yiping
away in all his yip yapping glory to the joy of LG's ears.
The girls are troopers. Right now they are exhausted and trying to take stock of things, but they are still laughing. Such good-natured and strong personalities!
Anyhoo, the best thing you can do is lend some moral support, but if you wish to donate (many have expressed the wish) to her fund (she will not know who and how much), then go to this link and follow the directions (takes Paypal or credit card).
Thank you!
