The past has no power to stop you from being present now.  Only your grievance about the past can do that.  And what is a grievance?  The baggage of old thought and emotion.

This is a quote from the book, A New Earth,  Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle.  This book is pretty deep reading, and takes me a while to ponder what the author is trying to say.   This quote was from a part of the book talking about the core of ego.  This is also the book Mamie had suggested the other day on her post.

I think as I read this will sink in and all of a sudden I will "get it"!  What I got out of this was that if I want to continue to complain about the past, it will only keep me there.  I can give up the baggage and the emotion and begin living in the "now".   I am the one that gives my past the power or I can choose to change that way of thought... and "just be".
Thanks mamie for bringing this book to my attention ~

This sounds like a book I should check into.  I haven't read alot of books like this lately, even though I know I should.  I just dip into the fiction and lose my worries in a good story for awhile.  But I could use a good "baggage handler!"

My past had become so battered and bruised I had to walk away from it Quiet. This is good stuff, good life stuff you and Mamie are working on here. I've read similar books years ago. Some of these guys can really cause the gray matter to bubble and simmer. Good luck on your quest, but don't burn yourselves out haha.

mobil ~ It is good "life stuff".  I have read off and on a lot of books like this one. I only take what I need and leave the rest.  This is how I keep from getting "burned out".  thanks mobil.

hi again! I am now into this second book and yes, you are right they are similar...like one feeds off of the other, so I am glad you will read the next one a little later.
Mobil said it straight away about how life works...it is all beaten up and battered with suffering until you choose to live differently. By then you have transmuted all that crap into consciousness. So when we know better we do better....For the life of me, I had a past that I could not leave behind yet it made me nutso for years!! I finally had to put it on paper and actually burn the damn thing to let it go. But I will say this, that event was a turning point for me and that baggage is no more! yay!! good reading!! M

mamie ~ wow you finished the first book pretty fast!  I went through some counseling called EMDR .  It was quite amazing...and the best part is...it worked.  I still remember, but its not a burden to carry...its just part of who I was.  This EMDR is also a very visual thing... I do well with visuals.  Thanks mamie ~
