  Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the lumbar (back) or cervical (neck) spinal canal, which causes compression of the nerve roots.

  Spinal stenosis mainly affects middle-aged or elderly people. It may be caused by osteoarthritis or Paget's disease or by an injury that causes pressure on the nerve roots or the spinal cord itself.

   

  • Pain in the buttocks, thighs or calves that is worse with walking or exercise
  • Numbness in the buttocks, thighs or calves, that is worse with standing, walking or exercise
  • Back pain that radiates to the legs
  • Weakness of the legs
  • Neck pain
  • Leg pain
  • Difficulty or imbalance when walking

  I am no longer walking...I am crawling.....need to have this operated on and have already gone thru all the preliminary tests.....see doctor again on March 7th.

  I was born with spinal bifada, and should have been in wheelchair by age 50.  they did 3 epiderals which did not help, and raised my blood sugar levels to horrible heights........one time over 500, now doctor has increased my medication and it seems to be keeping it down.

  The doctor told me that the diabetes worsened my condition, and the only chance i have to keep walking is surgery.

  good thing i have an extended family, because cry can't care for me...she is too sick...she didn't look good at all today ...couldn't hardly breathe.

  oh we all have something Jack. Hang in there. My father in law is treated for this as well. It sneaks up on you and slowly but surely you find one day that you just can't get up anymore!! I hope you are able to have the surgery for some relief and that Dee will be able to help care for you then...I suspect she is stronger than you know! :)) good luck and keep us posted. Dee,. make sure you are taking good care of yourself sweetie!

  We have a lot in common.  My mother-in-law had to have her neck operated on too, on top of her back. 
   
  You mentioned that you were born with spinal bifada.  So was my little girl.  The doctor said that most likely it won't bother her until she's in her teens and they can operate if needed.  I don't know anything about living with it.  Could you tell me when your pain started age wise?  We were more concerned with her heart issues that the doctor told us to not worry about the spinal bifada.  It sealed and at the time, that's what mattered.

  Thank y'all for the well wishes. Right now, I have been on steroids for my sinus and it again has blown my sugar and blood pressure way up, and for the first time in my life, I am being forced to eat a very strict diet, and that is very difficult. I love all the wrong things.  Thank you for taking the time to comment.

  Papa, I also have That also known as DDD Degenterative Disc Disease (I believe) I didn't know that this could be corrected. (hope to get back on in a bit).
