So I'm just finishing up the details of the wedding this weekend.  I wanted to make the cord that will be used to tie our hands together.  I bought a book on different techniques and styles and had Bill flag a few.  I had meant to start sooner, but for some reason I just didn't.  I have finished 3 of the 4 styles he liked.  The second one didnt turn out at all like the example in the book so it's an automatic no.  Here are the other two.

 first attempt handfasting cord

 third attempt handfasting cord

I like the one with the irredescent pearls best, but I am going to let Bill pick the cord.

We also need to buy a temporary wedding band for him today.  I am designing his band, but he's been difficult to work with.  It's like if he didn't give me the feedback I needed to finish the design that somehow he wouldn't be getting married. *sigh*  Yes, he does want to get married, but he's having a hard time letting his single status go.  (me too some days)  So, a simple band for the ceremony and I'll finish up the other band when he's not so freaked out.  The jeweler I'm working with probably thinks I'm a crazy lady.  Some days I feel like the crazy lady.

No shoes yet.  (maybe this is my "ring" denial)  I'm actually toying with the idea of going bare foot. (yes I'm cringing too)  Bill's dad keeps going back and forth between coming to the wedding and not.  I'll just have a place set for him and let him decide.  I've got to make a 5 hour drive thursday night to pick up the kids.  Not looking forward to that.

In the midst of it ......... I choose to pick up my pennywhistle and play.

I like the simplicity of the first one that you posted. I think Bill's going to find it hard to decide as they are all gorgeous.

Alyss - thanks!  I have one more design to finish.  One vote for the 1st try.

I really like the simplicity and the pattern to the knots on the first one.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 24, 2008....
Zayda - Okay, two votes for the first one.  The pattern for the first one really is more complex, but it is visually cleaner.

Am I the only guy interested in wedding foferal? (that's a very old word and I am not sure I spelt it right) I like the rope with the threads on the end, has a nice Western flavor to it Uni.

As for your man and his cool (not cold) feet, drug him till the ceremony is over. Yeah, start him off on something soft like pain killers, then move him up to meth a few days before the wedding. Heck you'll have the rest of your life to get him out of rehab.

Kidding Uni, all my best to you and your lives together.

    MM&I - another vote for #1

destiny - yeah, kinda freaky.  Suppose I should try the dress on again to make sure I still fit it.

mobil - nah!  just the first to get to this post.  I've carefully considered grinding up anti-depressants or valium into Bill's food, but then I'd have some 'splaining to do later.

I kinda like the second one the best, but I seem to be going against popular opinion! But either one of them would be fine :-)

I'm voting for the first one, Uni...I like the colors.

ET - one for the second one!  I appreciate your input.  It would seem that you and mobil have something in common.

Twyla - another vote for #1.  The satin blue ribbon is very silky.

I have to say that I like the first one best....yes I'm jumping on the band wagon.  I think it's elegant....but the second one def. has some character.  I like all the different ribbon in it, they are very different and hopefully Bill will know instantly which one will be THE ONE!  Hows the last pattern going?  Are you going to post a pic??
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 25, 2008....
tizzy - one more for #1.  It's almost a gender divide on the vote.  I'm picking up new material for the last one.  Bill wanted to include some different colors that I did not have in my supplies.  Maybe I'll weave it tonight, and yes I'll definately post a pic of the finished product.

I shall break the gender divide for you, U-I!

I like the second one.  I don't know what the rest of your decorations are like so I'm going without context.  I agree that the first one is pretty, very clean, and I do like the contrast.  BUT I think it looks a little too commercial to suit you guys' style.  The second one feels more warm and personal to me, more unique.  I have NO idea if I'm making any sense but hopefully you'll get what I mean anyway!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 25, 2008....
nytquill - You make perfect sense to me.  I'm a big fan of hand or home made and while both cords were made by hand, the second one does have a more home spun quality.  The whole event has my "fingerprints" all over it as far as personal touches and hand made.
  • Eilan said on Feb 25, 2008....
I think I like the second one better, but they're both lovely.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 25, 2008....
Eilan - Aaahh, now we're mixing it up a little!  Okay, another vote for #2
  • silverwhisper said on Feb 28, 2008....
sorry, another vote for #1 over here. :> how are you doing, nerves-wise?

  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 28, 2008....
SW - I think today I am going to be nauseous and panicky.  Better to get it over with today than tomorrow.  I'm feeling a little overwhelmed too.
  • silverwhisper said on Feb 29, 2008....
that's all perfectly normal, u-i. believe me, when you're recessing out of the ceremony, you're gonna feel like you can take on the whole world and win--handily.

and you know? you'll be right. :>
