An article about Virgin Atlantic making its maiden voyage on biofuel caught my eye....and I thought "cool....I love to see alternative fuels used" (not for same reasons as many of you).....
then, there it was....near the bottom of the article.....the real story....the left wing environmental nutjobs attempt at bringing global cooling under the umbrella of global warming and blaming that on man as well.....I knew this day would come.....well.....open up suckers....time to drink your koolaid! source

Oh yeah , I read the article they think we are a bunch of rocks . I was in Baltimore the other day and saw Govenrnor Martain O'Malley rolling up his sleaves, at the same time I was chipping ice off of my nose. The world is filling up with a bunch of greedy folk who just want the power of money. I don't know if you listen to him but I think he knows what I 'm thinking about all the time. No, I'm not talking about Martain O'malley but none other than Michael Savage, I'm telling you this man is brilliant. He talks about all issues of global warming and the problem of illegal immigration and just about everthing that pisses me off.

Wow, I don't think I've ever tried to spell pisses before and I'm sure I spelled it wrong along with alot of other words.   I myself will continue driving tanks until more folks buy egg shells.    "Seat belts save lives"

This reminded me, someone told me that the batteries on the hybrid cars are
    unbelievably bad for the environment.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Thsi was about theonly thing I could find that wasn't put out by hybrid car manufacturers.

    Cayenneman.....hey I'm a big Savage fan myself!

Pickers....yes, I've heard that.....something about how it takes much more energy to produce the vehicle than it will offset comes to mind.

Man's impact on global warming or cooling is like a family going to the beach
and messing up the sand. When they are gone, the tide comes in and
cleans everything up. We should not dump raw sewage in the ocean or
throw our batteries in our drinking water, but beyond that ... Al Gwhore is
a menace to society. He should stop global warming by keeping his mouth
shut. I diserve the Nobel Prize more than he does, for not creating a false
    panic.

I don't get it - if we're so concerned about global warming and jet engines that spew particulate matter create a cooling effect, shouldn't we encourage air travel to offset our CO2 emissions?

Apparently the Air Force is also experimenting with alternative fuels - liquified coal, I think - to power their jets.

Of course the real beneficiaries of Branson's and the military's investments in alternative fuels is Boeing and other major aircraft manufacturers, since they provide planes to both.

I don't reall understand the eco-Nazi mindset. Six billion humans are going to have an impact on the Earth, period. Development and economic activity are really the only ways to liftng people out of poverty and guarding against the ravages of famine and drought.

And yet these folks - the vast majority of whom live in well-developed "first-world" countries - would have us what? Get rid of air travel in favor of rail? How many industries would vanish? How many hundreds of millions of working class folks would be out of a job? Rental car people, concessions folks, security personnel, aircraft maintenance, marketing, logistics, air traffic controllers, cargo & luggage people.

I don't know - maybe the real agenda here is that these folks are convinced that the Earth is overpopulated and the sooner poor folks starve to death, kill themselves off, and die off from preventable disease, the better. Why else would the UN - that bastion of liberal global governance, do nothing about Robert Mugabe's vicious antics in Zimbabwe, and the strife in Sudan? Why else would they applaud a sick wannabe dictator like Chavez while the poor there are suffering from food shortages? Why else would they close down their offices in Iraq instead of working for peace and stability? Why else would they ban the use of DDT - malaria was almost a thing of the past in the 60s - so that now four million people worldwide die of an entirely preventable disease???

Make no mistake - the eco-left (as opposed to real nature-preserving conservatives like Teddy Roosevelt) want to all the little brown and yellow children to just die off so that the world will be nicer for their own kids to do semesters at sea, semeseters in the rainforest and all that other crap.

It depends on the kind of battery used.  The Prius apparently uses Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) which are way better environmentally.  Lithium Ion and plain old lead acid batteries are lousy for the environment.  Unfortunately Li-ion batteries pack more power into a smaller package so they get used in all sorts of popular electronics, such as cell phones and laptops.

I did a Global Warming post a while ago and talked about the Hybrid battery thing.  Here is a quote:

"A study was done by two reporters, Chris Demorro of the central Connecticut University newspaper and Martin Delgado of the London Mail. The study found that the battery of the Prius is of a nickel metal hydride variety.  Toyota, in order to make this battery buys 1,000 tons of nickel from a smelting plant in Sudbury, Ontario.  This plant is a major sore spot among environmentalists in that it spews sulfur dioxide out of a 1,250 foot smoke stack.  Sulfur dioxide is a known causer of acid rain and many environmentalists have pointed out the baron landscape around the plant as proof.  After the nickel leaves Sudbury it is sent to Europe, then China, then to Japan where the batteries are made.

Some of the nickel is sent to North America while some back to Europe for cars made outside of Japan.  So create acid rain and burn those fossil fuels to make a piece of a vehicle that you will market as environmentally friendly, hmmm I smell a contradiction here.  The environmental cost of a Prius, according to CNW Marketing, a company that rates cars on their cost to the environment from beginning of life to the end including the scrap process, is $2.87.  The Hummer H3 is $2.07, did Leo and Al miss something here?"

D6-It is great how the enviro-left have pinned every bad weather event on Global Warming.  Recently I had to laugh when I read of a plan to build wind-power machines was blocked by environmentalists because they said it would hurt birds and caused an eyesore.  I thought power from fossil fuels was the bad guy.

smb.......you know I can't figure it out......what is the "master plan" if you will......do you think there are 2 or 3 different factions within that movement, that want different things? Or, do you think that maybe there are just enough "useful idiots" in the world to go along with such things, that will inevitably bring down the U.S. as we know it today?
    The contradictions are staggering!
    The ignorance is immense!

Al Gore, when campaigning for the Presidency, stopped here in Washington State, and claimed that we had to get rid of all of our dams! We have over 100! Including the Grand Coulee! Did he actually think that we could replace that amount of energy with wind and solar power? (The ignorance) And then when we build wind farms the eco-nuts protest them! (The Contradiction)

The Prius is a great example of the hypocrisy.......I actually had no idea of the acid rain problem surrounding that....thanks for bringing that to my attention......you know that used to be the battle that was being waged by the environmentalists (Clean Air, Earth, Water) and for the most part, it was a good one.......smog in this country is way down from what it was during the 70's.....acid rain is down too....So I guess that they felt like they had to keep power somehow......"why not make shit up?"

D6-I don't think a lot of people that buy into this crap realize their tax dollars pay for these crazy programs.
