I just got scared because I thought someone came into the house---I swear it sounded like the front door opened so I went to look and see if the Mr. had come in.  He's been good at surprising me lately by sneaking up behind me and saying something.  The other day I was putting my make-up on in the bathroom and he said something to me in the open doorway when I thought he was sound asleep.  I jumped and squeeled and yelled at him.  He laughed and asked me if I was doing something in there I didn't want him to know about.

But just now I heard a noise that made me think he was right behind me again and he isn't even here--not time yet.

Turns out it was my bathmat falling off the wall.

(I rip it up after a shower and hang it by it's little cups on the shower wall to dry---household hint?)

It just fell and knocked a soap dish into the tub.  Whew!

The other night I got scared at a noise and it turned out to be snow and ice falling off the roof.

Sometimes I turn down the volumn on the tv because I hear something and then the bed starts to shake a little--but I remember that we live near where trains rumble through.  I don't hear Amtrak, but I hear the other ones.  (The big bad ones with a purpose)

Once I was lying in bed in another place, another time, and swore I heard a car wash go over the roof.  I never figured that one out.

But sometimes I get scared at unexpected noises.  Ever happen to you?  Even when you know immediatlely what it must have been?

Since getting my hearing aid lots of noises have startled me.  Most often its me being able to hear my own voice.....I tend to look around to see 'who said that'.  Oh dear!  I m losing it!

Ha Ha Ha...I do that all without the aid of a hearing aid.....so good to see ya'!

A car wash go over the roof?  Hmmm, I'm intrigued.

pickersplock:  Yes--just that.  I decided to just lie in bed and read and be good one night when I had my own place and had been a bit too rowdy lately.  All of a sudden I heard what sounded like one of those car wash arms going over the roof....swoosh, swoosh, swoosh... from one end to the other.  Scared the crap out of me--even though I tried to tell myself that it was kids using a garden hose--but not at around 2:00 a.m. in the middle of nowhere.  I still wonder if I am crazy.

pickersplock:  Exactly like a car wash arm.  I have no other words to describe it.  I figured I was "hearing things" as a really messed up gal.  I have no other explanation--and that scares me.

The noises I've heard for the last six months turned out to be a puppy.

One thing I know is that the more you listen for noises, the more you'll hear.
  • wombat said on Feb 22, 2008....
beyondtheveil:  I also once heard these strange noises and felt these bumps going on under the floor.  Turned out to be a poor coyote who had had pups under the place while I wasn't living there for several weeks. But that's another story......

Have you ever noticed that if you look in the direction of a noise, it stops?
I'll be watching tv in the living room, and I'll hear a strange sound coming from the kitchen. As I walk to the kitchen I can hear the sound, but as soon as I enter the kitchen the damn sound stops!
I can turn my head, and the sound starts again. If I look toward where the noise is coming from, it stops.  Please, somebody tell me you know what I'm talking about!

I'm pretty jumpy too, Wombat.  My husband loves sneaking up behind me and scaring the life out of me.  I don't think it is nearly as funny as he does.

Wombie out of hole for now....ha....but I guess you are already gone....

Twylarants:  I know what you mean--like trying to find a cricket!  That happens alot to me.  I turn my head and actually do the "perk up your ears" thing--like a rabbit.  Ha..

CreativeWoman:  I hate it when Mr. W does that!  He is loud as it is, and when I don't know he is behind me and he says something it makes me jump three feet and scream.  He just laughs.
