I've been a little absent from this place recently. I just wasn't in the mood to write, I guess. But I figured I'd try and get back in the swing of things, at least. I have nothing real specific to write about, so just consider this one of my rambling thoughts/update posts.

My house is still freaky. And no, I haven't done any research. I suck. I did try looking up my address, but it didn't give me anything except the name of one of the previous tenants. But I have no idea when they actually lived here. Probably not too long ago. So I don't think they're my ghost. But anyway, the house is still mysterious.

Yesterday morning I was sitting at the kitchen table, while Nat was making toast. And all of sudden we heard someone whistle. It was one of those whistles that people do to get someone's attention. It was saying, "hey! Over here!" Except without words. But you know what I mean right? Anyway, we heard the whistle and it was clearly coming from inside the kitchen. I thought it was Nat and I asked her what she wanted. She looked at me and said, "I thought that was you..." Turns out, neither of us did it. And it did not sound like it came from outside. The windows were closed too. But we looked out there and there was no one around. It was rather strange because we swore it came from right where we were. It wasn't a far off sound like someone outside anyway.

Cut to later on that evening. I got home from work a little early and before Nat did. I walk up to the front door, unlock it, and I start to push it open. I get it about 2 inches open and then it just stops. It felt exactly as if someone was on the other side of the door holding it shut. I could feel something pushing back at me, while I was trying to push forward. I pushed hard too! And it wouldn't move. For a second, I got really worried that someone was inside my house. It felt exactly like a person pushing on the door. But I decided to be brave and say, "let me in!" And then the 'block' disappeared and the door pushed open easily.

There was no one in the house. Nothing lying in front of the door. No cats. Nothing! And the door never just gets stuck. It opens fine all the time. So I seriously have NO logical explanation for what the hell that was. Except the ghost didn't want me home early apparently. They weren't done playing around in there or something. And when my cat Misty walked out from the back of the house a few minutes after I finally got inside, she was all puffed up to three times her size. Like she'd been frightened by something. And she spent the entire evening walking through the house screaming at nothing and driving us crazy. She doesn't do that normally either.

So yeah, the place is interesting. But I like it here. I feel comfortable here. I don't feel scared or anything. But I know we're not alone. We can't be. And I think it's very possible that the lunar eclipse had some sort of effect on the spirit activity and it was really strong last night. It's been awhile since anything noteworthy has happened, but yesterday was a busy ghost day.

Oh and there are other creepy things inside our house besides ghosts. I opened up the kitchen cabinet to get a plate out and a black widow the size of a silver dollar decided to drop down from somewhere and almost land right on my hand! Fuck me! That scared the shit out of me. I screamed like a girl. I couldn't help it. Those things are poisonous and I'd like not to die in my kitchen from a lethal spider bite.

And the shitty part is, I'm the man. I have to kill it. Nat is scared of Daddy Long Legs, so it's not like she was going to run to my rescue and save me. I had to be a man and do it. But just so you know, not all men are brave and tough spider killers. I hate them too. Especially the poison ones. The harmless ones are alright, but when a black widow that looks like it's eaten radioactive flies and grown to frightening proportions, shows up, I'm scared.

Of course, the fucking spider decided to crawl into the back of the cupboard after I screamed at it. It was like, "WTF buddy? I'm outta here." So I had to take all the plates out, and somehow reach my hand into the corner with a wad of paper towels and smash it. This wasn't easy. These cabinets are shaped oddly. They're incredibly deep in a sideways manner. They extend way beyond the door, and pretty much anything you shove back in that corner, you never see again. We have old dishes that we don't use shoved back there. Plus, the cabinet is high up too. I had to climb on the counter to reach in there, because I don't have Inspector Gadget arms.

I prayed this spider would not bite me as I squashed it. I crushed it hard, but then it fell on my hand and I totally freaked out. It's embarrassing, but why lie, right? I flung it off me and was like, "ahhhh!!!" but it was already dead. So it couldn't bite me. What a relief. But I still didn't want it touching me. What if the poison leaks out and kills me anyway? It could happen! Well, actually, it probably can't. But you can never be too safe, right?

So anyway, I killed it and all was right with the world. I checked all the cabinets with a flashlight and I didn't see anything else lurking in there. But we're both scared to open the cupboards now. This spider was fucking enormous so it was clear that it had been living in there for quite some time undetected by us. That's terrifying. That scares me way more than a ghost. I can handle ghosts. Spiders are just evil.

Oh, and after we finished eating last night, we smelled smoke. It was coming from outside and it smelled awful. But the weirdo who lives behind us is always burning garbage in his fireplace. He's the one I mentioned a long time ago who has gravestones in his yard and we thought maybe he was burning bodies in his fireplace because it stunk so bad. So we didn't think anything of the stench, except that it was annoying. But then we heard sirens. So we went outside and noticed that the house around the corner was actually burning down.

That sucked. How horrible is that? That's one of my biggest fears. And these poor people were just standing there watching their house go up in flames. Luckily they put the fire out fast and they really only lost their living room. The rest of the house was saved. But it was pretty sad to watch this unfold. Of course, it gave everyone in the neighborhood a chance to mingle outside while we watched. And then I learned that the sirens I'd heard earlier that morning were because the guy three doors down had died.

My neighborhood seems cursed, doesn't it? But I guess this old man who I didn't know and had never actually seen, died in his house. About 4 days ago. And this was the first they'd found him. Ick. That's creepy and sad too. He was dead in there all this time and no one knew? I wonder if he was at my house whistling? Saying, "excuse me? I'm dead over there and no one is finding me. Can you help?" It's interesting to think of isn't it? Who knows? But the whistle came before I heard the sirens, so who knows? Maybe he got a hold of someone else who sent the police to his door?

So that's what's been happening here. Lots of stuff. And this was just yesterday! I'm telling you that eclipse has a strange effect on the universe. It breeds ghosts and fires and spiders of enormous proportions. But it was cool to look at the moon. We saw that too. And we also saw the missile they shot into the sky to bring down that satellite. That was weird! We were standing outside looking at the moon and watching the firemen, and then there was this really bright light in the sky. I had no idea what it was, but I knew it wasn't a shooting star. Then I saw on the news later about the missile.

Yesterday was eventful. I wonder what'll happen today?

I hate killing spiders too.  I will leave the building if I find one until "bug mat" (in the form of anyone brave enough to kill it for me, even serial killers) clears the building.

Oh Kyle...I just love you. You've managed to cheer me up, make me laugh out loud, make me giggle, and make me spit out tea, all with one post!

I can't remember the last time I laughed at something the way I laughed just now, but it must have been months ago.

I need to read this one more time before I go to work and spend another 8 hours with the life suckers in my store.

Thank you so much for posting this at just the right time!
  • wombat said on Feb 21, 2008....
Good grief!  I've been wondering how you two were doing--but this?  And all in one day?  I laughed, too, but sat here thinking no matter how bored I am around home, I'd never want this kind of excitement.  The door being held against me like that would do me in.  And the poor neighbor not being found.....the fire...the spider....the whistle...Lions and Tigers and Bears....Oh MY!

Cool that you not only saw the eclipse, but also the satelite being shot down.  I would like to have seen that, though.  The rest you can keep on your side of the country!

you need to research the land, maybe before the house. ?

your story about the spider made me laugh out loud. i can't even go there when it come to spiders!

they are my worse fear. if a daddy long legs could bite, they are more lethal than
    the black widow.

i learn all i can on my ememies. *smile*

if you get to bugged by your "casper" try some sage. burn it thru out the house.

Thank you for the great read! have a good day and tell your love that i said Hi.

I also have been wondering where you took off to!  I can see you have been busy in your neighborhood...ewew that spider...I woulda been outta there!  I would definately get some spider spray..it works great...I am never w/o it.  Its called "Shout" spidter spray..and they get dead..almost instantly!  Those spiders would bother me more than your "friendly" ghosts.  It is obvious to me that is who they are....friendly tennants.
  • quietone said on Feb 21, 2008....
well duh...I just realized that "shout" is for laundry...LOL I meant to say "Hot Shot" spider spray...it is great stuff!!  good to see ya again ~

That spider story gives me the willies!  Ewwwww....  Just ewwww.

My daughter's ex-boyfriend was terrified of spiders.  So is she, but she had to be the one to kill them.  She used to use a French-English paperback dictionary that she had designated "the Book of Death".  LOL

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Feb 21, 2008....
I was just fine with most of the weirdness your house provides...but OMG, that spider!! I had a mini-freak out (I actually said "Eww! Ew! EWWW!" at the screen all the way through that, esp. when the dead spider landed on your hand!) just reading this. I can't imagine what I'd have been like if I'd lived it!

    [shudder]

I'd be holding one of the cats out in front of me like a spider radar/squasher everywhere I went. :-D

That's really sad about the old guy and the people whose house was damaged. :( I think your neighborhood needs some good stuff to happen!

Wow, what a day, maybe it was the dead guy trying to get help.
Your not the only bloke whose scared of spiders either, my ex was terrified of them, he'd call me to get them,  I was the chief spider catcher in our house, and ours don't bite, and none are poisinous :-))

nice to see you back again.

The ghost thing... well seems as though they is having fun with you! Spooky but if you feel cool there then I'd say no harm.
  • evil_twin said on Feb 21, 2008....
    Grace--That's for sure!

Paper--Hope you get a chance to come back soon :-)

uniquely--I wish there was someone else who would come kill spiders for me, but I'm on my own! Nat certainly won't do it. I need to get some bug spray or something...

twyla--I am so glad you enjoyed this! :-D Thank you. I'm happy that I posted this just when you needed something funny to read.

wombat--I know, it was all in one day! Crazy huh? But lately my life has been rather dull, which is why I had nothing to write about. So I guess I was due for some action!

M-M&I--Thank you :-) You know I've heard that bit about the Daddy Long Legs being the most poisonous spider out there. But their mouths are too small to bite us. That's scary! We did burn sage a few times here. Especially after some weird shadow person was watching us sleep. I guess it wore off, or else these spirits are immune! As long as they're being nice, they can stay. But if they get out of hand, I might have to smudge the house again.

quietone--You know, Shout might kill spiders too. Who knows? I once killed a wasp with air freshener! It worked great and smelled better than Raid. I think the ghosts are pretty friendly, so I guess we're just gonna share the place with them. I wish they'd kill the spiders for me!

Mimi--I like the Book of Death idea! I'm glad I'm not the only guy who's scared of spiders. They're just creepy!

Infernal--One of our cats actually did eat some black widows. I was worried they'd hurt her or make her sick, but she was happy as can be. No harm done. It was incredibly freaky to see her chomp a huge black widow though. The legs were sticking out of her mouth! This neighborhood does need some good stuff happening, huh?

Batty--I wish Nat would be the spider killer! That's not gonna happen though. Your ex was lucky :-P

Adyaz--Um, you want to meet my leader? I'm afraid I haven't met him yet either. Sorry. But Saturn sounds fun.

Lucy--Yeah, I think the ghosties are just playing with us. So far, anyway. I'm not too worried, but I'm keeping my eye out!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 21, 2008....
Oohh, you should get that spider vaccuum thingy.  It's a small hand held vaccuum with a long tube attached.  You suck up the spider, take it outside and let it terrorize someone else!
  • evil_twin said on Feb 21, 2008....
uniquely--A spider vacuum? I've never heard of that! Hmm...that's a good idea. I have sucked up spiders with the regular vacuum, but I wouldn't want a black widow living inside our vacuum bag. I'll have to look into that!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 21, 2008....
My mini-boss had one when she was single and "defenseless" against spiders.  I'll ask her where her dad got it.
  • Mr_Box said on Feb 21, 2008....
That was definitely an interesting day. Man...nothing that eventful has happened to me lately. Bummer. Although I'm not sad I didn't almost get attacked by a black widow.

Spiders are not my favorite thing either. Especially those spiders. I don't want to die painfully because I hear that a widow bite is excruciating. No thanks.

Your ghost sounds like he was either busy doing something and didn't want to be disturbed. Or else he was just messing with you. Trying to see what you'd do if he held the door closed.

That's kind of funny actually. At least he listened when you told him to let you in. I do think the eclipse might have had something to do with it too. It's a very mystical time, so anythings possible.

It's good to see you writing again, dude. I was wondering when you were going to post something.
  • rmuxagirl said on Feb 21, 2008....

    Hey Evil
I think thats so cool you have a ghost! I've been trying to find one for years with no luck. I think ghosts are afraid of me. mabie you should try talking to the ghost. like as you leave the house shout goodbye have a nice day, i'll be back about 5

as for the the spider- some animals can still sting/bite even after they are dead. bees and rattle snakes for example. so be careful, use a vacume cleaner.

  • hotaka said on Feb 21, 2008....
Well, I hardly know where to start or what to say. Your ghost seems to be harmless though a bit of a poltergeist type, causing trouble. Maybe he was painting the wall when you came home and the ladder was in front of the door.

Black widows. I have an amusing story about an outhouse infested with black widows. Glad I noticed before sitting on the drum. I like spiders but I respect them too. I don't want them running around or hiding anywhere without me knowing. And if I had a black widow in my kitchen cupboard I would not be pleased. Damn the rain, I would probably crush her too.

Sad news about the fire and death. Yeah, maybe someone was whistling to you. "Oi! I dead here already. Ain't someone gonna take any notice or does my rotting carcass have to stink up the whole friggin' neighbourhood first?"

I don't know if it's the moon or not, but K is going through another dark phase. This happens. I have been tempted to write about it but perhaps it's better that I don't. Sigh... Everything could be going so well...
  • polarheart said on Feb 22, 2008....

  • lfbno7 said on Feb 22, 2008....
I'm okay with bugs. Pretty good at killing them. Not freaked out by spiders. It's sort of a sport. Hand-eye coordination. Today, for the first time in a long time, I saw an ant in the house, a pretty big one. It was on my shirt. I instantly smashed myself in the chest, and couldn't possibly have missed the ant, but habeas corpus, ya know, couldn't find the body. Then when I was in the bathroom I saw a similar ant sitting on the wall and smashed that one. When I see spiders I clap them. Flies are hard to clap. Quick lil things. The thing that really gets under my skin is mosquitoes. Their whine gets to me, and even though they aren't as fast as flies, they are really hard to kill except if they do something stupid like sit on a wall. The biggest problem with clapping flying things is that we don't have the greatest depth perception so we don't know for sure exactly where the damn things are. At least I don't.
  • evil_twin said on Feb 22, 2008....
    uniquely--Thanks!

Mr. Box--I think the ghost was playing too. And that's fine as long as he plays nice! The spiders I can definitely do without. I'm still freaked about that. I keep worrying one will jump out at me every time I open something up!

rmuxagirl--I'll take the strange whistling over the spiders any day!

alls--I guess I never really think about being watched, even if I guess maybe we might be. And if the ghost wants to watch me take a shower, hopefully they enjoy the show! :-P

truth--I haven't seen your blog yet, but I'll have to check it out :-)

minnie--The ghosts don't seem that scary. They're just bored, I think. I'm not sure why it doesn't scare me more, except that I just think it's interesting and so far nothing bad has happened. Hopefully it stays that way!

tipo--If you want to find a ghost, I think you need to be in the right place. I'm sure they're not scared of you though. And thanks for telling me about the spiders biting after they're dead. That's freaky and I'll be careful!

boogie--Thanks for sending that! It was interesting :-)

daily--TAPS does need to come out! That would be cool. Although I have a feeling nothing would happen when they were here. It's so sporadic. We won't have anything happen for awhile, then all of sudden, all kinds of crazy stuff! That's so cool about your phone lighting up. Grandma just wants to talk! Oh, and the last people moved out because they never paid their rent. They got evicted. But I don't know who lived there before them, or why they left....

hotaka--An outhouse infested with black widows?? I'd be traumatized for life if I stepped in there. I'm sorry to hear that K is going through a dark time :-( Sometimes pregnancy has that effect on women. I hope things improve soon...

polar--We're still here! We just took a little break for awhile. Life has been busy. And everything seemed to have settled down in the house yesterday. I guess the ghosts got tired!

Lfbno--I'm not scared of ants, but I hate them. They're annoying. And I killed 6 mosquitoes the other day inside the house too. These must have been new hatchlings because they were slow and stupid and flew right into my waiting hands to smash them.
  • hotaka said on Feb 22, 2008....

Hey, totally off topic but have you seen the Famliy Guy spoof of Star Wars called "Blue Harvest"? My friend sent it to me as a birthday present and I watched it yesterday. It was friggin' hilarious.

Chris (as Luke) enters the prison chamber to rescue Lois (as the princess).

Lois - Aren't you a little fat to be a stormtrooper?

Chris - Fine. Stay in here and rot, bitch!

Or when Stewie (Darth Vader) learns that the Death Star is only 99.99% indestructable because of a small hole only two metres across and if you shoot a laser into it the whole station blows up, he says, "Well, can't you cover it up? Put some plywood over it, or something?"

It's good. I laughed a lot. I think I need to see it again. Gotta hear the Imperial March muzak in the Death Star elevator again.

my sister is a big neat freak, and she's got a bit of an insect phobia. so one year, my brother and i bought her a dustbuster and stepladder: its now her bug-killing kit. she can use the ladder to get things in the corners, and the dustbuster ensures that she doesn't have to make contact with it. :>

that's really weird about that guy's body being found and the fire across the street in the same day. i think that would have me a bit wigged out too, man.

silver--I'm totally looking into having a spider sucking vacuum! It's a great idea. I'm still freaked out that this thing was living in my kitchen cabinet! That's just not okay.

Kyle, I just read this story to my husband, the Bug Hunter.  He was cracking up...not because he's so brave, far from it, but because it reminded him of the time....well, he wants me to tell you about it:

About 25 years ago, a house in our neighborhood was being demolished to make room for a new home. The work caused the neighbors to be overrun with some of the strangest insects...things no one had ever seen before...really icky, yucky...there aren't enough "cky" words to describe these mutant bugzillas from beneath the earth that were finding their way into our homes.
The Bug Hunter really had his work cut out for him...there were mass executions daily, but I thought he was holding up pretty well.  I thought.

He was coming out of the bathroom one morning, and I heard him make a noise...not a scream or a yell...more like a  loud "whoa!" sound.
I went to see what was wrong, and found him staring at the wall across from the bathroom door.
The sun was shining in the bathroom window behind him, which caused his 6 foot shadow to appear on the wall in front of him.
After days of hunting down and killing strange looking insects, his immediate reaction at the sight of this large, dark shape on the wall was "Shit! I don't have anything big enough to kill that!"

twyla--That's funny! He was scared of his own shadow? That sounds like something I would do! I think I might need to borrow Bug Hunter someday if we keep getting spiders like this. I could use his expertise with mutant bugzillas!
